  1. Well, that was a longwinded way of saying that Europe is committing economic suicide, while bowing to their Chicom masters, as the subservient totalitarians/partners that they are.
    China has outsubsidized the Euro subsidy industry.
    As usual, the Euros give up without a whimper, bowing to their new masters.

  2. I watched this yesterday, and while Mr. Boyle is right in what he says, he doesn’t go far enough.

    The Chicoms are disrupting the international order of things deliberately, as a weapon of war. They have destroyed the industries of N. America and Europe already.

    One example, Sheffield England, the legendary source of finest tool steel, is filled with nothing but condos. All the industry is gone and the factories are either torn down or converted to lofts for hipsters. Because Record couldn’t make a vice for ten bucks the way the Chicoms did, and now they are a name put on a generic POS cast iron object that was made in China. The reason is economic warfare.

    As Mr. Boyle says, the same is now true of high-precision, high-production CNC machines that used to be only found in Germany. They’re not as good as the German ones, but they’re CHEAP and they are good enough to get it done. Internet example, Cutting Edge Engineering Australia installed a mega-bore lathe this year. It’s not a German machine. Taiwan. Because cheaper, and just as good. Chinese is worse quality but even cheaper than that.

    Economic. War.

      1. Totally false. 9 out of the 10 most prosperous countries in the world were founded on Judeo-Christian principles. The tenth country is Japan, but they were heavily influenced by Christianity after WW2, by American soldiers and engineers that worked in helping rebuild that country. Many of the soldiers were Christians and came back to Japan as missionaries. I knew some of them.

        Socialism is the worship of Man instead of God, and of course, the outcome is degeneracy and destruction. Socialism leads to Communism, and in the 20th century Communist governments and their dictators killed between 100 and 200 million people. Stalin alone killed 30 million of his own people, using famine as well as outright murder.

        There are people who dismiss such numbers, but again, when Man runs the show, he is the ultimate authority and he thinks there is No One above him, so he can lie as much as he wants. But the huge mass graves that have been found in former Communist countries do not lie. The MSM, sympathetic to Communism, will not discuss this. Can’t have the truth revealed, can we?

    2. High precision CNC machines have been in wide spread use for 45 years.
      The single biggest edge the Chinese have is that they have a plan; a plan to dominate and are willing to sacrifice profits for decades in the interest of ultimately destroying all foreign competition. Of course they are also not constrained by endless government bureaucracy that stifles manufacturing at every turn. Try building a steel plant in California.

      Where else do they build $500 electric water pumps (just had mine replaced for the second time) with plastic impellers that disintegrate every 25k miles.

      The good news is that the OBD puts my car into limp mode to keep my engine from seizing up because of the CRAP water pumps.

      1. Have had nothing but bad experiences with both Mercedes and BMW in our extended family. I will never buy a German (or European) car and would warn others to avoid them as well for the very reason you mention. They are engineered for obsolescence.

          1. Rented a Renault Megane in Portugal in 2018 with a 1.6L Nissan Turbo 4 cyl. and a 6 spd stick. A wonderful little car: quite quick and easy on fuel.

        2. I’ve had two Mini Coopers (still have the 2021). BMW built. Have had no problems. In fact, that made my husband and me look at BMW when we needed a 5-passenger SUV. Bought an X1 in 2023. Drives beautifully, very comfortable, no problems. And cost less than the comparable model Buick, Toyota and Jeep we looked at.

    Its good on gas, but it has pep.
    It was made in Mexico.

  8. I drove a courtesy car for a couple of days while my truck was being worked on. It was a Volkswagen Jetta…nice enough car, if a bit small for my liking. I thought it was shifting a bit oddly and decided to check the transmission fluid, only to find out (to my shock) that there was no dipstick. “Sealed for life”, I found out later. No thanks.

    1. The “sealed for life” claim on transmission fluid is absurd, especially in a time when the average used car is something like 12 years old. “Sealed for life” means “Functional until the warranty expires”.

  9. I doubt it’s possible now for VW Group to reduce costs sufficiently that they can put up a good fight against the Chinese. Maybe these cuts needed to happen a few years ago, and make it a 20% reduction, not 10% …
    Audi is at or near the bottom of customer satisfaction, while a couple of them look a lot like my dream vehicle but there’s no way I’m going to test the waters, it’s moot I suppose now that they’ve dropped the A5 convertible, There was a time when people said “never buy a made in France vehicle outside of France” and I think this applies to Germany now too.
    And, keep in mind that everything the Gov’t of Canada touches, turns to shit, and the #Libranos did make an arrangement to offer a tax subsidy to VW Group worth $ Billions. I’m not saying there’s a direct connection but the timing of this is suspiciously not that long after the tax subsidy was promised.
    The Gov’t of Canada, is the Shit-Midas. Everything they touch.

    I’ll add this comment on Patrick Boyle, I have great difficulty listening to his falling intonation in most sentences. It shouldn’t be a thing, but it bothers me more with each listening while NOT disagreeing with his views.

    1. Any kind of industrial production in Germany is absurdly uncompetitive, for reasons that START with an electricity price that is 4x that of the nations against which they are competing. Massive amounts of “German” industrial products have been manufactured in Eastern European nations for a very long time, and there are 20 to 25 automotive plants in the US for automotive firms with European headquarters.
