“Would you watch a Fox News-like channel in Canada?”

A poll that may not go horribly wrong, but we can give them a run for their money.
Update: It has taken just 90 minutes to shift the poll results from 15% “yes” to a near dead heat. SDA gets results!

  1. What is it about FOX NEWS that makes it such a desirable and valuable source of information? Please…someone give an argument, a real argument with facts and supporting rational thinking..reasons…for FOXNEWS being a reliable source of information.
And ‘it’s right wing’ or ‘it’s our ‘view” isn’t an argument..it’s an opinion.
You guys know about the whole scandal concerning the discrepancies between their news network and their ‘info-tainment’ network right? They create rumors and hearsay during the ‘info-tainment’ hours and then report on said hearsay during the ‘news’ hours without mentioning that it’s their own network making up the rumors.

  2. A “conservative” news channel from quebecor?
It will be conservative in name only. Just like our federal government.

  3. Bravo wallyj – you have made the case for ‘why we care’. CBC is a collection of bedraggled old commies/fascists gabbling and thrilling themselves by thwarting the voices of the Canadian people. The shouting at the TV ended when Kate launched her world famous web site -SDA. SDA is superior to any news outlet in the nation, Kate has more information and uses facts. SDA is an interesting read every single day. SDA IS the voice of Canadians because anyone can voice an opinion here. Tax payers do not subsidize SDA in any shape or form – tax payers dimes pay for the HRC criminals who have attacked SDA and Canadian tax payers pay for CBC; against our collective wills, because CBC only speaks TO a fringe group of old pinko fanatics. Canadians do not voice their opinions at CBC because the patrons of that outfit are never asked for opinions.
PMSH fire all those radicals – they are sour and negative and do not reflect the mind set of our nation. I want an interesting Fox News station for Canada. I love my country.

  4. Riddle me this. If Fox News is so right wing how come they have so many left wing nuts on their shows.

  5. Who are these ‘left wing nuts’ on FoxNews? I’ll assume they are unreliable kooks meant to paint the liberals as crazy.
    FOXNEWS is pure garbage.

    Care to share backable examples?
    “FOXNEWS is pure garbage”
    Compared to what?
Looks like trolls have just stop playing with their video games and themselves and have picked up on this week old news just now. The CBC is all up in arms about it…So are their lefty serfs.
“CBC says FOX is propaganda…must repeat this message…must repeat this message…”

  7. “Care to share backable examples?”
The story they did on ‘school indoctrination’ in New Jersey. The ‘infotainement’ side brought it up as if it was some breaking new story (about 8 months after it happened) and then the ‘news’ side reported on ‘talk of school indoctrination’. They made a big deal out of the whole thing partly because school officials had no comment…which was because it happened 8 months ago, during the previous school year!
Then there’s the matter of using footage from a much bigger rally in a story on a health-care reform rally.
On the July 2, 2008, edition of Fox and Friends, co-hosts Brian Kilmeade and Steve Doocy aired photos of New York Times reporter Jacques Steinberg and Times television editor Steven Reddicliffe that had been crudely doctored, apparently in order to portray the journalists unflatteringly.
On September 18, 2009, Fox News Channel took out full-page ads in The Washington Post, the New York Post, and The Wall Street Journal with a prominent caption reading, “How did ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, and CNN miss this story?” with pictures of the 9/12 Protests on the Capitol lawn. A still picture in the ad was in fact taken from a CNN broadcast covering the event.
    “”FOXNEWS is pure garbage”
    Compared to what?”
Why does it have to be compared to something? It’s pure garbage period! It has no value as a source of reliable information. It is as biased as news comes. It’s only popular with those whose own bias it supports.
Right, the old ‘it’s the trolls’ bs…ever think maybe FOX really is propaganda? Ever consider that maybe you’re just mistaken?

  8. BTJ,
Thank you for your answers, now care to share what you think of:
    -MSNBC
    -CBS
    -CNN
    -NBC
    -CBC
    -BBC
    “””FOXNEWS is pure garbage”
    Compared to what?”
Why does it have to be compared to something?”
If there’s nothing to compare it with, it seems odd one can judge the quality of it, don’t you think?
If Chrysler was the only car maker in the world and you said, “Their cars are pure Garbage” people would say well they’re the only car mfg, so…
    Get it now?
How do the above list of networks differ from FOX?
And please, let’s try to stay with the regular news hours, not the editorialists like Beck or Olbermann for example.

  9. ‘MSNBC
    -CBS
    -CNN
    -NBC
    -CBC
    -BBC”
They’re all unreliable sources of information. Especially MSNBC, CBS, NBC, CNN…CBC and BBC are a fraction better, but still give a very narrow and distorted view of reality.
“If there’s nothing to compare it with, it seems odd one can judge the quality of it, don’t you think?”
No, show me a logical argument that proves that one needs a comparison to judge quality. Do you need a perfect apple to be able to judge a rotten one? Or can you judge the rotten apple based on an understanding of what an apple should look like? In the case of judging foxnews, the comparison is the characteristics that make an information source reliable, accurate, unbiased, broadly based, ect.
“If Chrysler was the only car maker in the world and you said, “Their cars are pure Garbage” people would say well they’re the only car mfg, so…
    Get it now?”
    1) Fox isn’t the only news outlet in the world.
    2) You didn’t say ‘well they’re the only news, so…’
Even if they were, one must only have an understanding of how to judge the legitimacy of an information source to be able to say “Fox is garbage”.

  10. Another example of judging without a comparison:
I can watch an airplane crash into the ground and judge it as garbage without having seen an airplane fly. I only need to understand that it’s supposed to fly and know what ‘flying’ is.

  11. Sounds like all tv MSM is garbage. I’m with you.
So my favorite garbage would be FOX then…
    ’nuff said.

  12. Journalists’ Ideology
As was the case in 2004, majorities of the national and local journalists surveyed describe themselves as political moderates; 53% of national journalists and 58% of local journalists say they are oderates. About a third of national journalists (32%), and 23% of local journalists, describe themselves as liberals. Relatively small minorities of national and local journalists call themselves conservatives (8% national, 14% local).

  13. Despite the extraordinary popularity of Fox News, Rogers Cable TV appears to be ashamed of selling it. First, unlike CNN or ABC News, it is not part of basic cable; one has to pay extra. Second, when you look up the content of that package on their web site, you get this:
News theme pack Monthly Price: $4.99
    BBC World
    DW-TV
    EuroNews
    i channel
    MSNBC
No mention of Fox News. I bet that 80% of the customers order this package to get Fox News, nothing else. Why then would Rogers hide it? Is the mere mention of that name offensive?
I’d be curious to know if Bell & Videotron promote Fox News.
