now that is as stupid as you can git
me thinks many of the self proclaimed jezus follower would do much better leading by example
I was raised in a “religious” home and went to a religious school, just got sick of the lies, and the judgemental and hate filled vectives
JUDGE NOT FOR YEA WILL BE JUDGED
    and
    LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR
this does not mean to go off on a spiel about abortion and/or bash gays at every opportunity, and when another professed kristian does, reminded them of the 2 rules I posted
you may condemn the acts of sin, you may not judge or say hateful things of the sinner

  10. Hey, I have been nothing but polite, and the topic was Jesus. When I express my opinion that it does matter because jesus and organized religion, well crap. People here get bent out of shape.
I can’t help if others are behaving badly

  11. My biblical Greek is rusty, but I do recall one important explanation of this passage encompassed a couple of important facts.
First, some of the conversation involves a friendly “byplay” to the main request which is lost by the translation. For example, the word chosen for “dogs” is not the same word used to describe feral or street dogs(an unclean thing) but rather the word used to describe pets. In short, a affectionately embraced minor member of the family who could be overlooked. This fits with the status of the Samaritans who were an offshoot of the Abrahamic family who shared many of the same values but were in the “doghouse” as it were.
Secondly, the fact that Jesus was interacting with a woman at all was remarkable for a rabbi of the day. Women had little or no standing in society and especially Samaritans.
If Jesus had an expanding scope of ministry it was not in my view because he was a racist, but in large measure due to what people around him were ready to hear. He was expanding their understanding of the value of human beings through each of his teachings. Viz the ultimate – “love your enemies”.

  12. GYM….you misunderstand. If the sinner can question me,than I sure can question him.I don’t question his stupidity.I question his questioning of my God.

  13. Faith, like Justice and Love are abstract nouns. The concept of accepting something that cannot be defined through the five senses is no longer an integral part of universal knowledge. To have faith, the faith associated with Justice, Grace and Redemption; one must have an active imagination.
Jesus was the Son of God, not a social worker and not a liayer; unlike the former, Jesus was in the serious business of saving souls from the nasty socialist/Bolshevik downstairs.

  14. Hey Zorph, you have been polite, but don’t link Jesus(of Nazareth) with organized religion. He was completely at odds with “religion”. What exists today is the result of mankind organizing things into religion as badly or worse than in Jesus time on earth. Jesus preached a personal relationship with God, still the Gospel(good news) for today. If you hate organized religion and religious people you will discover a kindred spirit and friend in Jesus of Nazereth not to be confused with Jesus of Mexico or Montreal.

  15. Roni:
Actually, Jesus was born into the Jewish religion and said his arrival on earth fulfilled the Old Testament prophecy.
There are many examples of how he rebelled against the religious authorities of the day, who had become much too legalistic.
An example of this is the Parable of the Pharisee and the Publican in which the Pharisee went into the Temple and announced his perfection in obedience to the onerous and unnecessary man-made laws.
All the Publican did when he entered the Temple was: ‘Forgive me, a sinner.’
Glad to learn of your perfection.

  16. “nasty Socialist/Bolshevik?”
It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to go to heaven.

  17. Yo – the rat at — Man you just preached the Gospel!! Jesus, God with the skin on, fully in the flesh of a man, just like you ;just like me. Open to all the same temptations as me, as potentially as bigotted as me and he overcame that, and was without sin. A lamb without spot or blemish. May the Holy Spirit continue to bless your heart and work in your life. You know that in doubt are the seeds of faith.

  18. It’s hard to be humble when you have a great BIG GOD! I’m not perfect but I am perfectly righteous because I wear the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Indeed I have been set free, forgiven, covered in his robe of righteousness.

  19. Roni I appreciate what you say here. Even among this bunch there are many who will ridicule you. I’m not one of them. I know Christ is real. I know we are all eternal. Where we end up is the real question that angers non believers.
I could tell you stories about Him and the way He changed me, things He showed me. But I don’t choose to share those on this blog. I’ll wager you probably have a few of your own stories how Christ works in your life.
Now I’m a long way from being perfect but I know the truth. Christ lived and still lives.
By the way, I’ve read most of the Bible and there is no mention of the earth being flat that I recall. In fact I believe it states that the earth is round. People who have never read the Bible should not comment on things they know nothing about. And as stated in an earlier thread, the whole purpose of this subject about Jesus being rascist was taken out of context, like people often do with the Bible.

Have to say I’m in the same thought as you on this and I’d add the condescending tone of the usual atheist also arbors me. If one expects respect then they ought to be giving it in the first place. Guess it shows the contrast with the way of thinking that makes conservatives what they are that, which makes me want to be in their camp.
Not to mention how many other religious based groups are as accepting of non-believers and others not of their faith?
Our country, in fact this continent was founded on the Judea-Christian beliefs and we’re one of the best countries in the world today. So why discredit all that? Lots more good was done than bad with this religion compared to a few others and not to mention a few atheists too. hitler, mao, stalin, etc.

  21. The simple fact is that you shouldn’t lend credence to people who believe their their grandfather was a chunk of dirt. If they evolved from dirt then their opinions are the opinions of dirt and as such have no place in the discussions of children of the LIVING GOD. As JESUS said, “Let those who have ears…”. I mean seriously folks have you ever debated a pebble before? It may make you feel vexed but it has no effect on the dirt crumb. BTW if dirt asks you to prove an historic event realize that dirt is incapable of learning history so why bother trying.

  22. Liberal Anglicanism generally does not even believe that Jesus was God, even though Scripture, tradition, and dare I say, reason concludes otherwise. It’s time for Anglicans to either join the Southern Cone, join the Roman Catholics, or find another home amongst Christians who don’t have “itchy ears”. Canadian Anglicanism is about to expire with the next General Synod.
Jesus was not a racist. Read some solid commentaries and find out why he challenged the foreign woman. Bishop Tom Wright is a good Anglican theologian to read. His “Resurrection of the Son of God” is excellent.

  23. real:
It’s funny how you like to throw that passage around like it’s some sort of attack on conservatives or those that support capitalism. Has it ever occurred to you that some of us would like to retain more of our earnings to donate to causes that we see fit rather than “give” it to a government to spend on programs that we do not support?
I don’t think Jesus was preaching that Communism and Socialism was the way to Heaven. Those political philosophies aren’t methods of measuring a person’s generosity, and our opposition to them doesn’t make us greedy.

  24. You know what I like about the direction this thread is taking?
It’s actually making people’s faith even stronger.
Chairman, I agree with you and would like to add one point.
Compassion toward others’ suffering is every individual’s responsibility.
A state is non-compassionate because to redistribute, it must first committ the non-compassionate act of taking away what a person has earned through his own honest efforts.

  25. If you read the passage in question in the Jewish social context of every day meal time then it is quite likely Christ was being facetious and the women played up to it in kind.
The Anglican Church of Canada is adrift.

  26. “…the bible story was selectively written but a bunch of church insiders who thought the earth was flat and the sun revolved around it. Garbage in, Garbage out…”
Not meaning to respond to a troll, but this comment interests me. I doubt there is any writing in the bible that specifically indicates that the writers believed the earth was flat and the sun revolved around it…except for that passage in the Old Testament about whatshisname holding up his staff and stopping the sun in the sky so a battle could continue. I should research this.
Actually, there are many things in the Bible that indicate that they were “hip” to the scientifically correct understanding of the world and the universe. It would be interesting to see a list of those things they got totally wrong…I suspect it would be very short.

  27. Dead easy, if you’ve read up on him. And who else are people going to slag if not him? Yeshua Bar-Joseph

  28. Actually Eeeyore, science and archeology continue to prove the Bible’s accuracy.
    One example of many:
Tyre and Sidon were assumed for centuries to be ‘mythical or mistaken’ locations until recently( 1900’s ) when a buried city was ‘found’ in the exact location that Tyre is referred to in scripture, under water, just as prophesised.
mark…right on.Context! The main point of that story of Christ and the woman is the faith and intellect of the people of that era. The Wise men from the east and this woman are a few example of the many different cultures who were very aware of the promise of a Saviour thru the Hebrews.
Kate…thanks for allowing this intellectual discussion.

  29. It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to go to heaven.
Is Buzz Hargrove or Boob Ray or ‘Jacko and Olive hoil’ in Canada your template? How about the big house/bank account the Obama family own, the palaces Stalin lived in , the digs of Castro? How do you equate, New?

  30. bluetech
the writers of the bible were people of their time, of coarse there is historical relevance, but that does not equate to religious accuracy
