My reaction to the announcement? I’m torn between disinterest and pity. Of course, he jumped to the LIberals. It’s been three months since he saw his name in the paper. He needed a fix.

Update – Commentor “Boots” advises that “Garth Turner is getting ripped to pieces by Breckenridge tonight. (QR 77 archives 7:00pm) In fact I’ve never heard Rob B. so adversarial. He’s absolutely ripping Turner to pieces. It’s brilliant! Turner is stammering and stumbling and Rob B. is relentless. Turner has never experienced this kind of questioning and it shows. Click… he just hung up at the end of the interview.

I was on my way to the Flames game when Rob got a hold of THE GARTH. I just got home (what a collapse and the hund I dropped at the Big 4 afterwards pretty much summed up the night…*sigh*) Such is life.
On a happier note the audio vault is working! Without a doubt the funniest thing I’ve heard on the radio since a good one came with an 8-track.

In the first five minutes of that interview Garth uses “I” and “Me” at a rate that would embarass Narcissus.

Pity…as in “pity you weren’t disinterested enough to shut up about it.” Sensible people shouldn’t give a rat’s ass what you think, since you were one of the first to jump in and claim the Emerson defection was a savvy tactical move that Conservatives should appreciate.

Apparently after joining the liberal party, Garth must feel he has lost his principles along with his independence, cuz it doesn’t say that, now. At least he’s being honest with himself, if noone else.

It is perfectly consistent. Nobody here is claiming that Garth shouldn’t cross the floor because that is a wrong thing to do. This may be a savvy move on the Liberals’ part, or it may not, time will tell. The issue is that Garth is now doing exactly that which he spent months ranting and raving against. It is the most astounding example of hypocrysy in recent memory and he deserves all the ridicule and scorn he is getting.

Are any of the loggers, and other employees of lumber companies in BC thanking Mr Emmerson for the rebates their companies are receiving. Garth is still furious he didn’t get a cabinet post. Can you imagine the trouble he would have caused if he had. Thank you to the Ont caucus for seeing thru this mp and kicking him out. Turner is not getting a lot of positive press out of this. Wonder if any of his words will appear in campaign ads.
Turner is a liberal for a few hours and his first order is for the PM to order members to resign. I didn’t know a PM could do that. He also ordered the PM to set up by-elections, when there are no vacancies. Lets have a by-election in dions riding. Turner also wants a by-election for Fortier, does that mean he supports senate elections. Who does Turner want to resign so Fortier could run. Turner said he would resign 36 days before a by-election. I thought things worked the other way around. Why doesn’t turner run in LaPierres riding in a by-election, as he has resigned. And how come the liberals have not told turner he can not make policy. What does the constitution say about an opposition member ordering the PM to call by-elections when there are not vacancies. We have the media treating dion as if he is the PM and now we have turner telling the PM how to do things.
Travers just told Newman that he thinks Turner will win the seat as a liberal as the voters are Turner voters, not party voters. He also said that Graham was a better leader of opposition in QP, and dion reading soft questions, (in poor english, my words)does not leave a good impression. The other guy said all dion talks about is the environment and when he attempts to talk about anything else, no one can understand him. They both praised Iggy. Newman said he had to get Holland out there again, no mention of his there will be consequences stmt. As the media has ignored it, maybe newman doesn’t know he said it.
Travers also said dion has lost stature since the leadership, and has not been defined yet.
Is there something going on in the backrooms we don’t know about. Is dion soon going to get an incurable disease and have to resign. He has it already, called foot in mouth disease.
I still like Mr.Turner, though I’m disappionted with his decision. He’s a loose cannon, and he stirs up the hooey. Perhap’s he’s like a bird dog; chasing the flighty, ghostal, peripheral crap out of each party.
I think he’s good for democracy. I suspect that after he finishes trashing the Liberal party, he’ll come home. That would be ideal, though I’m not holding my breath.
And Yeah, I think he’s self-centered and full of shit, but still, try as he might, I don’t think he’s a Liberal.
