A woman that hates the human race with a passion. What do animal deaths and forest fires have to do with air conditioning? I think that this woman should be allowed to live without electricity for the rest of her miserable life, and then she might gain a small understanding of why energy matters. She would soon appreciate the advantages of electricity production for heating (as an example) over every French citizen foraging in their forests for wood. But I am more than willing to recommend that she try it for her life.
This is the typical example of the people who are elected into office and the typical example of the mentality and intelligence of the people that vote them into office. How we ever evolved from the Stone Age baffles me when I look around and see what has become of a supposed educated and enlightened society. If there is any truth to the adage “Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad!”, then we are well on the way to destruction.

I think that is the most important part of that quote. ‘Intense fear of’, or ‘appalled by’ seems a bit over the top when choosing an adjective showing your disagreement. And yet, ‘appalled by’ probably sums up her generalization rather accurately.

I suspect the unmentioned problem is France’s poor power infrastructure, specifically in Paris itself. Old, undersized ducts, old, withered and substandard conductors would fry with the electrical load.
There’s a good reason for their hyperbolic comments about AC, it’s to deflect from their shithole infrastructure.
