July 1, 2026: Reader Tips

For many Canadians these days, it’s difficult to feel happy about the current state of the country. But here are glimpses from July 1st in Banff and Ottawa one year ago, which should provide some pleasant viewing.

What plans do you and your loved ones have for Dominion Day?

  1. I ain’t partying. For years I had the red/white Maple leaf stuff dangling on my yards. Front and back. Can’t do it anymore. Sorry to all true patriots out there, specially servicemen; this family has hang up the boot. I may do a mild 250th on the 4th cuz family ties. Go 51st.

    1. Cranberry Farmer -I was in Cabela’s a couple of days ago. I was greeted upon entrance by a large rack of tee shirts with a cool graphics – for $15 each. An older lady was looking at them also. I said nice shirts. She said “But it says Canada on them. I work in investing.” She didn’t buy one and neither did I !

  2. What’s happening for Dominion Day* around my household? Glad you axed.
Wife has to go into the office today. Apparently the union in the warehouse demands a three-day weekend so everyone gets this Friday off. I guess this morning will feature a rigorous vacuum session, followed by a nap and then grilling some sausages out in the stinkin’ heat/humidity.
    Basically it’s another Wednesday.
Thanks to our various levels of guvmint, the unelected unaccountable civil servants and public health rats and the shuffling, sauntering cultural enrichers roaming my streets who are all conspiring to make living in this formerly Great White North unbearable, I can’t think of a better way to “celebrate”.

*Growing up I was confused that Dominion gets one but Loblaws or A&P didn’t get their own day as well.

On Dominion Day today, the Librral federal government has removed 5G restrictions around our airports, apparently endangering airtraffic due to possible threats to altimeter use in older Boeing jet aircraft. So the U.S. FAA has, as of July 1, will be banning these older aircraft from using our airports. The actual reason why our government took this step, allowing 5G use near airports, escapes me.

I didn’t hear or see our corporate media discuss this issue. Happy Dominion Day everyone.

    1. They should bring back strict dress codes. Might improve the behavior of some of the filthy disgusting animals that take flight nowadays.

      1. There is a reason they went from being called air liners to air busses.

    2. Denver International experimented with jetways that loaded at two aircraft doors simultaneously ten or so years ago, but I don’t think it went anywhere. Changing to new jetways would be at substantial cost and we’re already barely maintaining our highways.
The largest impediment to rapid aircraft loading anyway is people carrying absurdly large carry-ons onto planes and then standing in the aisle trying to hammer the stuff into the overhead bins.

      1. There are at least three reasons for those absurdly large carry-ons:

        Airlines charge for checked luggage,
Long wait times at baggage pickup,
Airlines rarely enforce carry-on size limits at check-in.

    3. “everybody enters and exits through one door”
      Sounds like a Pride Parade.

    4. Several years ago we were on a flight where the people were boarded from the front and the back. It was a medium sized plane with only four zones, the middle zone B and C boarded first, then A and D. It was quite civilized.

    1. The US is kinda functioning at the federal level, but at the state and city level it’s mostly screwed.

    1. And here I thought fly fishing out on the Montana prairie was safe from Grizz.

  4. Happy Canada Day, people, FWIW from this retard.

I did an online work orientation I had put off to start my morning just after 5.

Food, beer, maybe a swim at a Climate Doomer’s pool – insert eye roll here – more beer and food.

Never let the Bastards drag you down.
    Cheers!

  5. Nothing different. Just another day of retirement activities, just staying cool.

Nothing worth celebrating. Used to hang a flag. Grams wouldn’t let me hang a black maple leaf upside down.

Just another day in what used to be paradise.

  6. Eff Liberal Woke Day. My wife and I are going on a road trip to the USA to celebrate with them, their Independence day. These days the best thing about Canada is seeing it the rear view mirror.

    1. And so far as I know … we don’t import the beach-defecating variety of brown people. Although our version of southern brown people have literally made a mess of Lake Tahoe. But it is politically incorrect to call out the actual offenders by group name … so Tahoe going from blue to green … is … *ahem* … everybody’s problem.

No it’s not. It’s ONE group who trash every beach they use.

  7. I’m with CranberryFarmer above. No more flag for us. We’d fly our Canadian and American flags alternately, depending on the holiday, with our NASCAR flag on Sundays during the season). Not anymore; haven’t flown anything since the “elbows up” garbage, and we have a few of those retards in our neighbourhood.

I have a lot to celebrate and be thankful for, after completing a long year of cancer treatment, but I’m just not feeling it this year. Yesterday, we received our property tax bill, up 7%. Thank goodness the government is making life more affordable for Canadians (or so the advertisements tell me). On top of that, our air conditioning just crapped out and it’s $170 (pre-paid, non-refundable) just to have a technician look at it tomorrow.

So our plans for Dominion Day are to expend as little energy as possible to keep cool on this 35 degree day (feeling like 42) by watching Wimbledon and thinking about our trip to the US this weekend. I’ve always wanted to celebrate the Fourth of July south of the border and what better year to do it than during America’s 250th. On Saturday we’re off to Cleveland for a weekend of baseball, fireworks, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Happy Dominion Day and, since I won’t be here on Saturday, Happy Independence Day to our American friends.

  8. I had a revelation today. 30 or 40 years ago I saw someone in a Lamborghini, or something similar, park at the end of a row in a parking lot where there was no parking spot. I thought he was being snooty and self important. Wrong! You can’t open gull-wing doors in tight parking spots.

    1. Genius Elon Musk fixed that problem with his ‘Falcon-wing’ door design … with a double hinge that allows the door to swing upward … not outward.

But that bastard is allowing HATE speech on all his platforms … and he backed Trump! ohhhhhhhhhhh mommmaaaaaa.

    2. So that’s why Jonathan Livingstone Seagull could never get out of his car. A minor mystery of literature solved.

  9. The Red Ensign is flying on the front of our house as it has been for years on Dominion Day. Last year a visiting Liberal tut-tut-tutted “You know that’s what racists fly, eh.”

To which I replied, “then you better not be seen hanging around here, eh?”

He gave a sick laugh, but stuck around for a beer.

    1. There’s a fine line between “racist” and “imperialist”, but the Ensign is definitely on the right side.

    1. Thats prolly how a lot of those foreign nationals wash the goat shit off their dicks.
