So perhaps it isn’t surprising that the country remains preoccupied by what happened to Theo van Gogh and what the politically correct position toward people who live in your midst but feel free to kill you should be. Friends who a few years earlier would walk you through a neighborhoold like the Baarsjes, with its shrouded women and its state-funded Islamic school and it’s defiantly secretive mosque, and call this a “multicultural success” or a “model of tolerance,” have begun to suspect that that peculiarly Dutch myth of a democracy integrated but not assimilated might be not only a contradiction in terms but a dangerous fiction.

The head-in-the-sand approach of the Left to the impasse between Western freedoms and the demands of Islamists is given the most apt expression ever by the Dutch Green Left Party leader: She describes herself as a “human-rights universalist”. Well, that solves that, doesn’t it?
One of the best recent books on the subject of Europe and Islamic immigration is Bruce Bawer, While Europe Slept – explaining how radical Islam is destroying the West from within.
There are two problems: one is multiculturalism and the other is the nature of Islamism.
Essentially, European immigration has consisted primarily of Islamic workers, who have settled but not integrated. This lack of integration into their new country is due to the multicultural policies of Europe (same as in Canada) and, to the isolationist and collectivist nature of Islam.
Multiculturalism is a ‘recipe for disaster’, in that it actually REJECTS the immigrant as a potential ‘Canadian’ (or Dane, or Dutchman or British or French..) and instead asserts their ‘right’ (???) to maintain their old cultural identity, intact, within the new domain.
This old set of beliefs and behaviour is deemed, within the mantra of multiculturalism, to be, each Equal To Each. All cultural beliefs and behaviour are equal to each other. So, the belief that a woman is the property of a man is equal to, is as valid as, the belief that no-one is the property of anyone. But, multiculturalism refuses to evaluate, and above all, refuses to allow the newcomers to develop a new identity.
The stupidity and ignorance of multiculturalism is beyond belief. It ignores that beliefs and behaviour are adaptations to a particular economic mode of life, in a particular geographic domain, in a particular temporal era. What was valid in 16th century Morocco is NOT valid in a modern 21st century industrial economy.
But, to the multiculturalist, the two modes are equal and, indeed, the former must be retained and encouraged. The result- huge populations of people who have no feelings of commitment or cohesion with the laws and norms of their new country. None.
This rejection of the standards of the new country is supported by Islam. Islam, it should be understood, is less a religion than it is a socio-political system. It has very specific rules of social and political behaviour, which are removed from discussion and debate by cloaking them within the ‘off-limit privileges’ of defining it as a religion. You are not allowed to criticize a religion, in our world of political correctness and multiculturalism.
Therefore, you cannot criticize, even if you are a Muslim, its rules about the denigration of women, its rules about economic servitude, its rules about the denigration of other religions and other peoples. If you, even as a Muslim, criticize, you are an ‘apostate’, a ‘heretic’..and, deserve death.
It is a tribal mode of life and belief, suited only to a peasant agriculture and totally incapable of adaptation and operating in a modern global and industrial economy. The Islamic mindset hasn’t produced a scientific idea, ever…It denigrates the individual and privileges the submission of the individual to faith-based collectivism. That may be fine in a no-growth peasant economy, but, is disastrous for an industrial economy which requires innovation and independence of thought.
As a sociopolitical mode of belief and behaviour, its followers don’t consider that they have any obligation to follow the rules of their new country; their only loyalty is to the Islamic mode. And since we, multiculturalists, allow them to practice this mode, under the guise of its being a religion – they become completely alienated from and indifferent to their new country. Their agenda is to move their rules and norms (Sharia Law) into the mainstream.
The question that has to be asked is – is the Islamic mode of belief and behaviour The Best Way? We’ve asked this type of question before. We’ve asked it with nationalistic and racist fascism as found in Europe of WWII. We’ve asked it of communism, as found in the Cold War. In both cases, the majority of the world rejected these collectivist ideologies.
Why?
I’m ignoring the totalitarianism that must accompany the insertion of a collectivist ideology within a large population. I’m just asking – can a collectivist ideology function to promote, preserve, and enable a global population of 6-9 billion? The answer is NO.
Collectivism is suited only to no-growth systems. That’s its strength, its function. Since it rejects the individual, it loses completely, any capacity to ‘change its mind’. It cannot innovate, invent, adapt, progress. No new medicines, no new ways of garnering energy and food supplies for the billions of the world. Therefore, since this creeping mode of yet another collectivism, Islamofascism, is moving in, we must reject it – for its dysfunctional inability to serve the needs of the world.
