Two of those times (Dawn and Nightfall) fall within Regina Saskatchewan’s “quiet hours” (10pm to 7am) under laws already on the books Sound Ordinance Noise Abatement Bylaw (No. 6980).
Violation leads to fines of up to $2,000 for individuals (and $5,000 for corporations), or up to 30 days in jail.
My point is this. If the residents of Regina don’t call the police for each and every single violation of the noise ordinance every time that “call to prayer” between 10pm and 7am; then they deserve it.
Orson, there is a special religious exemption for the ‘Religion of Peace’ so don’t hold your breath on any noise charges being laid. Remember that ‘Muslim values are Canadian values’ and if you don’t believe that then you are in a minority that is soon destined to be eliminated.
Factually, having looked up the ordinance, there is no exemption. But, I get it. It seems the Muslims can have free reign on whatever they want, and bureaucrats bend over backwards to accomodate them. But, that noise ordinance offers an opportunity.
Make the town council own it. Make the Mayor of Regina own it. Make them actually legislate an exemption to the by-law. These people still have to get elected. And, they don’t want to have to actually take responsibility for an unpopular choice to accomodate a minority constituency. And those voters are going to be reminded every morning at 253 am just who is responsible.
If I lived in that neighborhood, I’d go door to door actually recruiting people to report the violations. They might rethink their tolerance if the police department gets over 200 complaint calls twice a night, every single night. I might even take the muffler off my old Jeep and drive up and down the main street.
There will be blood.
