We had to read the blogs to get details of the income trust scandal because you felt Kreskin was more important. It took months before we found out that Liberal cabinet minister Scott Brison was tipping off his close personal pals in the banking industry with here a wink, there a wink, everywhere a nudge, nudge. You’d think Kreskin would have known.

The MSM in this country has been spoon fed for so long by the Liberal party that an appearance by someone like Woodward and Bernstein on the Canadian scene would be like the Second Coming. Shawiningate, Gun registry, Adscam, Earnscliffe all had the earmarks of a MAJOR league bust on the Liberal party, yet the ‘correspondents’ in this country couldn’t pick up the ball and run with it. The Liberals moved the MSM into a mode that saw them function as the propaganda section of government. Liberal press releases and ‘information sessions’ were always, nothing but propaganda. As others point out, the real activities of the government were never revealed – the behind-the-scenes agreements, the payments, appointments of cronies, on and on and on.
Harper rejects propaganda as a tactic of governance – and so, the MSM press corp has lost is role. Instead, we are now getting far more real information than ever before – via one-on-one discussions on the news with various ministers..who actually answer questions with specific data..rather than the Liberal tactic of robotically repeating “We are great, we are the best country, we are not-American’…
The same in question period in the House. The Liberals never, ever, answered a question with anything other than Newspeak emptiness. Now, we get answers.

I would add to Black Rod’s excellent recounting of blatant bias last fall’s lingering onscreen display on The National of a photo of the fictional Sargeant Schultz, followed by one of Harper. This occured during a story on Alan Cutler’s nomination.
Incidents like the ones Black Rod recounts show that those who deny CBC’s (recent, historic) bias are either unaware, or bald-faced liars. I remember around last June that the CBC buried, to a shocking (at the time) extent, revelations about criminal behaviour connected to the LPC, airing instead jaw-droppingly banal and trivial stories.
Harper at the time made a series of historically important, stirring speeches in the house which addressed the corruption of Canada’s institutions. These were not covered at all; what we got instead were brief clips of him walking in hallways, with reporter’s voiceovers insinuating one way or another that he and his ilk were a threat to this country.
Then as now you could see on uber-Liberal Keith Boag’s face the nervousness of someone pushing the partisan envelope as far as possible, and then some. It was like watching a satire about obsequious Liberal public servants infiltrating the state-funded media, only it was real.
BTW, if you rearrange the letters in “Keith Boag”, you get “The Big A-OK”.
On CBC Chantal Hebert, not exactly a Conservative stalwart, said, regarding the current media plaints about Harper’s approach to media: “I don’t think the public is deprived of new information about the new government”.
Andrew Coyne described the apparent impasse as a dispute between two opposing interests, and he chastized the media, saying of their concern that they shouldn’t “dress it up as high principle.”

I think the media is realizing they are becoming just a middleman in the process and are being cut out of the process due to their own ineffectiveness. They are fighting for survival. Too bad the only way they know how to fight is to complain about their situation instead of attempting to adapt to the reality of the situation and try to fix things that got them there in the first place.
If they truely believe they are in a war, they will lose if they continue to behave in this fashion. With all the alternative sources of information opening up thanks to the Internet, people will just go elsewhere to get their news. After all, nobody likes a whiner.
I like the comments by the talking heads regarding how the Cons need the press to get their message out. Since when would the MSM give the Cons a fair shake? Since when would they not spin the message negatively?
Mulroney tried to suck up to the press. They did him in in the end. If you do not like the game, change the rules. The Cons are just making things more fair.
Ted, the press may have broken those stories but they did no work on developing them. Looking forward to reporters doing some investigative work.

My mother has voted liberal almost all of her adult life. Two weeks ago she said something interesting. She said and I’m paraphrasing, “That Stephen Harper seems to be a nice man and smart as well, I wonder why they said all those bad things about him?” My mother, a Liberal, in Canada, finally getting to the truth. I’m not making this up.
Did anyone catch Susan Bonnar (“Politics”) being shocked, just shocked, by Steven Harper’s answer today to a question in B.C. about David Emerson? PMSH said he wasn’t concerned by the protesters because “isn’t it always just the same 10 people?”
When Bonnar asked Terry Milewski about the protest he, looking decidedly uncomfortable, admitted that PMSH’s count of 10 was a little low, as HE HAD COUNTED 14.
GOOD GAWD. Can’t you see, Susan and Terry, that the poor horse you’re flogging is past dead?

I also loved when Mr.Harper fielded a question asking whether the $1200 per year to families with kids under six would actually be used for daycare.
He responded without a pause “we’ll leave it to the Liberals to speculate whether the money would be used for beer and popcorn.The Canadian voters already told them what they thought of that during the last election”.

I love watching those mean, pin heads in the MSM whine. It’s fun. As for the MSM breaking the Adscam, income trusts, gun registry etc – make me laugh Ted!! The MSM could not keep a lid on those stories because some people, like me, who don’t have a life watch the debates on CPAC. It was the Bloc who uncoverd Adscam, Gerry Britcritz (bad spelling) from the Alliance who broke open the Gun Registry scam, Stockwell Day and Stephen Harper broke the Mo Strong – Power Corps – Oil for food- UN (Koffee Anon)-Scam….I could tell you more but I’ve said enough.
