The trouble appears to be centered around a Far-Left “peace activist” named Suraia Sahar. Here is her Twitter account. She belongs to an organization called Afghans For Peace. While many Canadians undoubtedly agree with her that Canadian soldiers should come home as soon as possible, one wonders if her tactics of disturbing the ceremonies of WW2 veterans does anything other than draw attention to herself? Of course, if you dare disagree with her amped up sense of self-righteousness, then she immediately screams that her Free Speech rights are being interfered with. If an outsider were to walk into the middle of an Occupy camp or a Women’s Studies classroom or an NDP convention and continue shouting & screaming, would those there still support that person’s Free Speech rights?

Far more disturbing than the disruption by this Afghan is the threat by police to confiscate cell phones and cameras recording the arrest.

I would like to see something like that happen in Canada just once — once in the entire history of our Nation — I would like to see someone occupy a Union office, or impose a pro-Catholic family float in a Gay pride parade, or inject a pro-life group into a radical feminist conference.
But it probably won’t happen even once. Because the Canadian Left is not libertarian, it is hopelessly fascist — whatever libertarianism the Left supposedly inherited from the ’60’s was abandoned decades ago.
The NDP and its Left-supported groups are not peace-loving libertarian “hippies”. Because the original hippy philosophy was “do your own thing” — it was “laissez-faire” and easy-going. Nerdy “sweater-vest” Stephen Harper is in fact closer to being a ’60’s hippy than any leader in the Libs or NDP today!
Justin Trudeau is in fact not ’60’s “cool”, although he likes to project that image. “Let’s force everybody else to do what we tell them to do”, compared with the ’60’s “do your own thing” philosophy, are in fact the exact opposite of each other. I happen to know — I was part of the original sub-culture. Telling other people how to run their lives was considered totally “uncool” in the ’60’s. Forcing them was even worse. And the Government forcing them — Trudeau’s and the contemporary Lib and NDP vision — would be considered outright apocalyptic in the ’60’s.
No hippy or ’60’s “back-to-the-earther” was ever under the illusion that Government could be the ultimate agent of peace, love or happiness in the world. The wealthy fascist University Left — people whom we referred to as “weekend hippies” or wannabes — brought that false political hope to the sub-culture, which is why it failed miserably.
If you want hippy-style libertarianism, then reject the Left and fight for small government, and stay out of other people’s faces!
David Menzies once asked John Clarke of Ontario Coalition Against Poverty what he would do if Menzies got a group of his friends together and occupied the OCAP office the same way that OCAP occupies everybody else’s space. The Remberance Day Service is in this country a sacred event. The Memorial sites are sacred places. What Suraia Sahar and her likewise rude companion did were acts of dishonor and blasphamy. One doesn’t need an imagination to imagine the result of such actions at a mosque.
The NDP knew what to say to the Taliban and bring peace to Afghanistan, they knew it under Jack Layton, he said ‘we’ should just sit down and chat with them, and maybe he was the only one that knew what to say – but what did he do about it?
