A tiny nation in the middle of an intellectual wasteland has yet another scientific breakthrough;

In a breakthrough development, the Israeli company Vaxil BioTherapeutics has formulated a therapeutic cancer vaccine, now in clinical trials at Hadassah University Medical Center in Jerusalem. If all goes well, the vaccine could be available about six years down the road, to administer on a regular basis not only to help treat cancer but in order to keep the disease from recurring.
The vaccine is being tested against a type of blood cancer called multiple myeloma. If the substance works as hoped — and it looks like all arrows are pointing that way — its platform technology VaxHit could be applied to 90 percent of all known cancers, including prostate and breast cancer, solid and non-solid tumors.

Some countries have all the luck.

Currently public emails show Mann was unable to provide even his close colleagues data he used in some of his papers and could not remember which data sets he used. A query to UVA shows the university, who owns “the data and notebooks resulting from sponsored research,” had no copy of Mann’s logbooks and never gave him permission to take them with him when he left UVA. The university refused to inquire within Mann’s department as to whether anyone there knew whether he even kept a research logbook, so it’s impossible for me to know whether he stole the logbook or just never prepared one in the first place.

Let’s call them what they really are: the Cash-Out Generation. Over a century of prior generations invested forward, only to have this single generation cash it all in (and take highly leveraged loans for future generations to pay, when the cash wasn’t enough).
Excess wages ($85K/year for a Packard auto plant employee to shuttle parts around on a cart). Early retirement. Guaranteed pension payouts that no private investor could match. Public sector perks like nice parks, roads and environmental “feel good” rules that were funded by loans, not their own tax payments. Social security demands unmatched by their payments. Even their children’s education was something they shortchanged, demanding loans pay what they wouldn’t.
They’re the narcissistic parasites who cashed it all in. The hell with this Boomer mandate that social security be treated as an untouchable third rail. Given the demographic data on boomer wealth, it’s time to match social security payments to actuarial models based on actual payments in, without interest (remember Boomers, you’ve rejected the opportunity to have such funds invested and earning interest).
It’s either that or we’re going to cut the funding to the senior centers and let the Boomers experience accountability in their last years.

At first I thought that this was a joke. It’s not. Here’s the opening post:

Update: A female Chinese-Canadian friend of mine moved to Vancouver from Singapore about 4 years ago. Publicly, she had something very interesting to say about the Occupy crowd:

Instead of camping out and protesting about the inequality and differences between the upper/middle/lower class income, protesters could spend those times looking for jobs. One job is not enough, do two jobs, three jobs, etc.. Do one full-time, and freelance at home, or do two part-times, and some freelance.. That’s what I did during the one year I was looking for a full-time position. Economy’s bad, is just an excuse. If one is willing to, there’s all sorts of jobs around. When I first arrived in Vancouver, I would go to people’s houses by myself and cleaned their houses for them as maids, and they would pay me in cash (while I was studying full-time). You would gradually work yourself up.. even if it means swallowing your pride or dignity, dirtying your hands, etc… Gradually, if you did a good job, people would recognise your efforts and help you out. It’s all about the attitude.

Take a moment to envision the entitlement junkies in the Occupy tent cities and ask yourself what percentage of them would likely be willing to clean houses?

For as long as I can remember SDA commenter ‘ET’ has eloquently and accurately described socialism and communism as 2-tier systems. Not two equal tiers though. More like a tall piece of cake with a thin layer of icing on it. In the political realm the icing constitutes the Leftist elitists who have proclaimed themselves more intelligent, more wise, more sophisticated, and generally just more cool than the average Joe. This cadre of elitists look down upon Joe with great condescension, convinced that he doesn’t have the intellectual acumen to run his own life, make his own investments, and even, in some cases, to wipe his own tush.
