Holding the citizenship of another sovereign nation is perfectly acceptable for an aspiring Prime Minister of Canada, according to Mulcair and company. But maintain another party affiliation and they won’t even let you become an NDP party member. From the NDP’s own constitution:
(1) Individual membership shall be open to every resident of Canada, regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or national origin who undertakes to accept and abide by the constitution and principles of the Party AND WHO IS NOT A MEMBER OR SUPPORTER OF ANY OTHER POLITICAL PARTY. [my emphasis]
I guess exclusivity is only for the things that…you know…really matter.

Three good reason’s why PM’s should only be allowed to hold office if they are Canadian Citizens only, is the fact that we have 3 ongoing boundary disputes current at this time, Denmark/Greenland, US and the Beaufort Sea, and France and the waters around St. Pierre and Miquelon. France at one point in that dispute had very modern warships stationed in port there constantly while that dispute was hot. Any of these issues could flair again. There is also the issue of Canadians with dual citizenship demanding tax payer services all the time. Contrary to what the msm pumps out very few countries allow dual citizenship. Most demand that you renounce all foreign ties. And definately for the leader of a country. As to Queen Lizzy, yes she is a foreigner but she really does not have any say in how Canada operates. No dual loyalties for PM or any other leader such as Premier.

What tax payers services are we dual citizens demanding all the time? I grew up in Canada after being born in the US, took out Canadian citizenship, but then moved back to the States to go to college and ended up staying. I have never received one thin dime of Canadian taxpayer services since I left. Neither have any of my siblings who chose to live in the US under similar circumstances. The only one who receives any Canadian services is the one who lives and works (and pays taxes) in Canada. Not sure what the issue is here.
