No one seriously worries that a Prime Minister Mulcair would be likely to be caught in a serious conflict of loyalties between Canada and France.
Why would the writer say this? I would simply assume an unreconcilable conflict.
Not surprisng at all … they’re pushing either Toronto candidate Brian Topp or Peggy Nash, so anything that can wound another NDP leaedership candidate is fair game to The Star.
Scar, I don’t think Mulcair would have a conflict of loyalties. If anything came up, he would do what was worse for Canada, because as a good leftist progressive he knows that whatever we have and are as a country must be bad, or it wouldn’t need people like him to improve things. Therefore he would always punish Canada, out of his loyal impulse to fix it.
Let him keep dual citizenship. If the voters tolerate it, they tolerate it. And then they will deserve any problems it brings. Personally, it would concern me, but I see many more important reasons to not vote for the NDP with or without Mulcair.
Who cares? The NDPEE could throw Jesus Mo and Budda into a blender rebuild them all into a humanoid and run him and not get elected, Canada has grown up, we are mostly, realizing Business, trumps all the ndpee liberal feel good BS. Only Toronto and a few assorted nuts and dolts in limpie ridings across this great nation are still reading the Starwipe or watching CBC-TV and believing in garbage like “glow bull warming”. Canada has a PM who knows a job and feeding/housing your family is the most important thing in any decent persons life, not all this, does Mulcair carry a foreign passport, does Bob Rae dye his hair, would Jack have made a great PM, give it up TO we’ve moved on and it is great.

If Thomas Mulcair (or any NDP leader for that matter) became Prime Minister, dual citizenship would be the least of our worries.
The very notion of the NDP being anywhere near the treasury is unthinkable.
I can just see the constitutional crisis. Something happens between Canada and France and to resolve the conflict the Governor General dissolves Parliament. Mind you that does require the NDP to be the governing party which I don’t see.
And yes Bob does dye his hair, it is to look smarter, sorry Bob it won’t, hasn’t and will never work.
Who cares what this commie mutt does, he’ll be lucky if his party survives the next election.

The fact that he doesn’t see this as a huge political liability pretty much says all about his readiness to be the Leader of the LOYAL Opposition or horrors – PM.
And the fact that the NDP are trying to slice and dice this in the fact of their dear leaders Layton’s previous statements reflect the hypocrisy that the NDP live in.

Newspaper headline I hope we never see: “Prime Minister Mulcair today appointed Mr.Mao-Wang Chen,a dual citizen of China and Canada, as head of CSIS.”
The Liberals,including Mulroney,treated Canadian citizenship like it was winning a kewpie doll at the local Fair, not the “life-lottery win” it really is.
Immigrants from all over the world for a hundred years were happy ,no desperate, to come here,put down roots,and work hard for their families and Country. I knew many from Eastern Europe who opined they couldn’t care less if they NEVER saw the “Old Country” again.
This Dual BS started in the eighties with Trudeau’s multiculturalism,and now we have thousands of citizens of convenience whose loyalty to Canada is questionable,at best.
Imho, no one should be allowed dual citizenship,you become Canadian, or go somewhere else. I’m speaking as a Canadian whose ancestors range from Indians to early French settlers,to second generation Canadians,and many of whose ancestors paid the ultimate price for the privilege of citizenship in this Country.
I have no patience with anyone who treats citizenship in this great Country like membership in the auto club. Canadian citizenship is the greatest prize anyone can have,and when people cheapen it because they think it’s “sophisticated” ,it pisses me off.
Mulcair,Dion,or any other person who wants to sit in the Parliament of this Country,had better damn well renounce his former citizenship publicly,and with great fanfare, or go sell used cars for a living.

The question here is, why would a fellow named Mulcair even want to be a French citizen? I mean, where’s the benefit? Does he just hate the anglos so much that he wants to be one with their ancient enemies. Is it because the English did such a good sh*t kickin’ to the Gaels and Celts, or is it just that he’s better at the French Retreat?
My apologies if this has been said in other threads, but I can’t help but wonder what the level of NDP vitriol would be if PM Harper were a dual Canadian/US citizen. Harper of course is too principled to hold dual citizenship in his position but all the same it’s interesting to hold a mirror to the hypocrites in the party that is so self-righteous.
I will be happy on the day this swine holds dual citizenship of the countries of Quebec and France.At least then he and all his countrymen from both those sorry-assed jurisdictions will have to show a passport to get their slimy hides into OUR country.
so his other citizenship is due to his spouse. Not due to being born as a event aboard for another state, not having been there for any time
So as an adult he decided to acquire and actively use this citizenship
