Guess who owns shares in Enbridge, Pembina Pipeline Corp., Exxon, Cnooc (!), Halliburton, Canadian Oil Sands Trust, Occidental Petroleum, and what appears to be every natural resource company under the sun? Attawapiskat Trust fund, that’s who. They profit from the oil sands while concern trolling about the environment – nice racket.
The blockade that is costing CN $5 million a day isn’t helping the portfolio either since they own shares in CN too.

The Fate of America’s Entitlement Generation
Here’s the true reality of the generation that overwhelmingly voted for Barack Obama.
By the way, aren’t these the same people who loathe the one percenters? So why are any of them concerned that they’re now destined to spend the rest of their days as lower-middle class serfs?!
Good News for Canada … If You Wish to See It
Andrew Coyne takes a sober look at the economic state of Canadians today and concludes that overall we’re doing pretty darn good. Of course, this reality doesn’t sit well with the members of the “Poverty Industry”, whose very livelihoods depend upon people remaining poor … or perceived to remain poor.
Imagine if a new drug were invented that instantly cured all cancers. While that would be a great thing for those inflicted with the disease, it would be terrible for the economic livelihoods of the millions of people around the world who work in the Cancer Fundraising & Research industries.
A similar predicament faces those employed by the Poverty Industry. While undoubtedly most have big hearts and want to help people on an individual, micro-level, it’s actually not in their own best interest for things to improve on a larger-scale, macro-level. For eventually they’d help too many of their clients and then their own jobs would be at risk.
It’s likely not too big of a leap to intuit that many who get jobs in Canada’s Poverty Industry were probably part of the “Math is Hard” crowd back in high school. So they must be forgiven if they find it difficult to understand the statistics that Coyne has clearly presented. Also, anecdotal evidence suggests that the vast majority of them tend to lean Left, sometimes Far Left, in their political views. This means, by definition that they are anti-capitalist, pro-socialist, which further means that they are more in favour of equal outcomes than equal opportunities. This line of thinking has consistently proven itself throughout history to be disastrous for the poor.
Sadly, those employed in the Poverty Industry seem incapable of realizing that their own socialist beliefs actually hurt their clients in the long run, rather than help them. But along the way they take great pride in fighting “the rich” and believing every morning they wake up that they are better, more nobler people than the “suits” they rail against. What they don’t spend much time thinking about is where the money to pay their own salaries comes from … you know, the money from the taxes that those “horrific” rich people pay. Selective ignorance is truly bliss.

…both students are in good academic standing and are eligible to enrol for classes.
University spokeswoman Barb Pollock also told the Leader-Post last week the U of R has co-operated in giving immigration officials whatever information it can.
“We have been asking to discuss this issue with the government and we have not been successful,” she said at the time.
Oops.
The U of R rejected her appeal in a letter dated May 31st, 2011 and there’s no evidence a subsequent appeal was initiated or successful.

Let us turn from the post-Thanksgiving scenes of inflamed mobs clubbing each other to the ground for a discounted television set to the comparatively placid boulevards of the Middle East.
P.S. Steyn’s article is well worth a full read for entirely different reasons. But why would any American be bothered with learning they’re being “lead” by a bunch of buffoons when . . . there are deals, Deals, DEALS to be had out there in Shopping-Land?!?

“They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something”
On Friday about 3,000 people in Chicago lined up at a municipal jobs fair for 55 posted job openings.
… some of them waiting in line for up to six hours – hoping to apply for work with the city, but many left frustrated after learning the only way to apply for a job was to go online.
WBBM Newsradio’s Bernie Tafoya reports Mayor Rahm Emanuel stopped by the job fair, expecting a warm welcome from job seekers, but instead ran into lots of ticked-off people.
Rodney Booker said, “I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something.”

What Does “Rock Bottom” Mean for America & Europe?
Most modern electorates appear to be much like all drug addicts. The addiction of the latter is obvious. The addiction of the former constitutes itself in the form of more & more entitlements without any thought about how they will be paid for. Ever growing debt seems to make no difference to the majority of most voters (including more than a few Republicans and Conservatives).
In an offline discussion with SDA regular Gord Tulk, he suggested that no real, positive change can ever happen until a society reaches “rock bottom”. I concur.
But for America, what precisely does this mean? What about for Europe?
