The only bright spot in all this grimness is the thought that Steyn will have an overflowing abundance of material to work with for the next four years.
I’m off to play in a bridge tournament today so I can forget about all this.
Steyn’s column is a simplified version of what has been Obama’s (Alinsky’s, Jarrett’s and Axelrod’s) plan all along. We’re headed exactly where he (they) want us to go.
“that Americans are the brokest brokey-broke losers who ever lived,…..”
Right.
And … if you do the same sort of calculation regarding TAXES we pay in Canada… the AVERAGE working Canadian pays over 50% of their income to government.
We need to get rid of a lot of useless progams and people in this country.
Well Daniel Mitchell revealed a silver lining….an unintended consequence….
OBOZO’s apparent win (not conclusive) has incited another wave of fear inspired firearms buying.
Logically this equates to more homes/individuals having the capability to repel criminals.
The net result being a reduction in crime…criminals are stupid but not suicidal.
Hey, welcome to the “Wei-MARK Steynian States of America” or the WSSA; pronounced ‘wussa’.

In the first paragraph, Steyn referenced Dennis Miller. Anyone listening to Miller’s show this week knows that Dennis is more than a little depressed. And like Steyn, he has reached the pragmatic realization of where the American people clearly are right now:
In a mere 50 years, they have changed from “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country” to “What are you gonna give me for my vote, politician? It better be good because I deserve a lot!”
That entitlement mentality has been with us for many years now. It has arguably been in Canada and Europe even longer than it has been in America. But the Alpha Dog is now also clearly infested with 52%+ takers.
The GOP and conservatives can pretend that various strategies can defeat or slow down the entitlement/socialist hordes but much like a Zombie movie, all of the non-infected humans eventually die in the end.
As interesting as the ‘present’ strategy is (show up, but don’t vote, let the Dumbocrats go full speed off the cliff), it runs against the nature of the typical, do-it-yourself American can-do attitude.
The GOP will fight tooth and nail. To allow the far-left to have their way is cowardly, and I’m surprised Rush said that and took that position. Better to stalemate the system, than to step aside and watch a disaster happen (which may very well happen anyways, agreed on that!).
Unintended consequences and all be damned.
Major employers have already started to demonstrate their warnings through initial layoffs, numbering int he thousands. It is the first wave of layoffs and cutbacks, thanks to government policy, taxes and fee increases, those which the Dumbocrats have been in denial of.
Will they get it when unemployment rises above 10% again? Probably not, “its the recession” will be the excuse, conveniently ignoring that the taxes and fees, triggered the layoffs, which triggered the recession.
Let them eat cake.
Remember when Rush Limbaugh signed his 8 years contract for.. was it $400 million? seems like a bargain to me.
Mark Steyn / Levin… many others, all terribly underpaid.
Maybe the hardcore conservatives are right. Leaving Obama holding the bag will look better in 4 years than if Romney was holding it.
All this doom and gloom though triggers my spidey sense….surely there must be some solutions that aren’t Mad Max?!
“The GOP will fight tooth and nail.”

Watching barry dare the GOP to challenge him the other day was even more depressing than the election. He really thinks he has a mandate to raise taxes on the “rich”. When in reality the voters of America chose stalemate. Republicans control the purse and barry controls….what exactly? He hasn’t presented a budget that’s been acceptable for his entire first term, he rules by czar (does any one else find this creepy?) or executive order. The regulatory tsunami that is coming in the new year is going to make premier dad envious. The GOP in the House will eventually roll over after beating their chests for awhile. The stock market will slowly slide under 10,000 and barry will go “yeah? really? What does that mean? I don’t understand”. Oil and coal will disappear as barry and his band of greenie cohorts will extort more and more bailout money from the Treasury while the people of Staten Island continue to starve and freeze with no help in site. barry will say “I don’t understand, I put my best man on it? FEMA is taking care of everything.” Sooner or later the DOJ will start rounding up everyones’ guns and the camps, now filled with refugees from New York, (who apparently are being watched and monitored by FEMA as they try to alert the world or try to get some help), will be filled with dissenters and thus ends the great experiment that was the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Mark is a might Bitter & who can blame him. Even his own State became an Obama sheep farm.
The picture and Mark’s book, “After America” sum up the state of the union well.
Robert, it is sad that the last free nation has fallen, but I am afraid you are right. The Bolsheviks did not have to storm the Winter Palace this time, as their 5th column has done its work well.
From another Steyn article the day after the election, quoting Sir Richard Mottram, a former British Permanent Secretary (about another situation):
“We’re all f***ed. I’m f***ed. You’re f***ed. The whole department’s f***ed. It’s been the biggest c**k-up ever and we’re all completely f***ed.” http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/332888/les-mots-justes-mark-steyn

So it has. But the JFK quote doesn’t apply. The supposed “rich” are being told what they can do for their country, whether they asked or not, namely pony up in big tax hikes.
The welfare state encourages people to “ask what their country can do for them”, but a totalitarian dictatorship expects people to “ask what they can do for their country”.
What we need is limited government, in which people are left to run their own lives. Only when one person decides to use violence on or defraud another person should the state intervene in their lives. That’s a far cry from the JFK quote, which doesn’t exhaust all the options and leaves out by far the most important one.
