Orphaned again.

Friends and relatives said Susan Poff and Robert Kamin of Oakland were the perfect pair to adopt a foster child.
They had dedicated their careers to helping others escape poverty, she as a physician assistant in a city-run clinic in the Tenderloin and he as a clinical psychologist for inmates in the San Francisco County Jail system.
But now, less than a decade after they adopted, their 15-year-old son stands accused of strangling both Poff, 50, and Kamin, 55, then hiding their bodies in the back of the family’s PT Cruiser.
[…]
Co-workers said Poff and Kamin were having some arguments with their son, some of it having to do with him spending too much time in the Occupy Oakland encampment….

Occupy #Fail;

It was a swing and a miss for the Occupy movement planning to protest at the Monsanto Research Centre northeast of Saskatoon on Saturday night. […]
Activist and key Occupy Saskatoon organizer and owner of alternative bookstore Turning the Tide Peter Garden explained what happened.
“I got a call about noon [Saturday], saying that the people from Regina weren’t showing up,” he said.
“Apparently there wasn’t enough people, and they had a car that broke down.”

Of course, none of that stopped CKOM radio from reading their anti-Monsanto propaganda on the air.

Adam Carolla Comments on the Current State of America

Adam Carolla isn’t buying into the class warfare schtick of the Democrats. Here’s a snippet from the NRO article about him:

He hates the fact that the rich have to pretend they’re not wealthy. “We’ve turned our world into some kind of prison yard, and if somebody finds out you’ve got a couple of cartons of cigarettes stuffed down your pants, you’re going to get torn apart [on] the handball courts.”
Given the contributions rich families such as the Carnegies and the Rockefellers have made to the arts, Carolla finds it “weird” to equate rich with evil. If the rich are evil, “why are you sitting in their library? Why are you sitting in their hall? Why did I just listen to a whole show on orangutans with no commercials that they paid for?”
When asked about the hullaballoo over Mitt Romney’s tax returns, Carolla adds, “I don’t know who is sending mosquito nets over trying to cure malaria in Africa, but last time I checked it was Bill Gates. Is Bill Gates evil? Are all rich guys evil or just guys with nice hair?”

Cracks in the Socialist Reality Bubble Begin

Public sector workers in New York state are beginning to learn a few important lessons in math.

“We can no longer sustain the current pension system,” [Democrat Governor] Cuomo said, citing a projected 185 percent treasury-busting increase in pension costs from 2009 to 2015 if nothing is done.
“This is devastating to the state and the local governments,” he said of the rising costs.
“We need pension reform. We need it desperately.”

The Washington Post has discovered something heretofore not known to mankind: Giving fake praise to children isn’t such a good thing!
Here’s a snippet:

A growing body of research over three decades shows that easy, unearned praise does not help students but instead interferes with significant learning opportunities.
“We used to think we could hand children self-esteem on a platter,” Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck said. “That has backfired.”

Time for Helicopter Parents to Do a Rethink

Petula Dvorak has written an excellent article which should be passed along to all helicopter parents. Here’s a snippet:

[Helicopter parents] are the mothers and fathers who demanded laws for bike helmets, car seats and warning labels on every plastic bag and bucket in the universe. They had the home number of every teacher from preschool to college. And they’ve even been known to call up their grown kids’ new bosses after junior didn’t get a promotion.
But what happens when these highly groomed offspring go off and join the hundreds living in the Occupy movements camps? To whom do you file a complaint? Who gets the irate phone call?
