We Had This Thing In Canada Called The “Sponsorship Scandal”

In which a Liberal government directed public funds to Liberal friendly ad agencies, who redirected them into Liberal campaign coffers in Quebec.
Now, I have no evidence whatsoever about the “teamwork” responsible for the 2010 GSA party scandal beyond what’s been reported in media – $820,000 spent on a four day conference that included $7,000 for sushi, $4 apiece shrimp, and $6,325 for commemorative coins.
But I will point out that Las Vegas is Harry Reid’s town.
Bumped for Update: Toni writes;

I love your blog and read it daily .Last night when you mentioned the Sponsorship Scandal, I googled who the owner of the M casino where the GSA had its convention and that honour goes to Mr. Tony Manell who turned from Republican to Democrat to support Harry Reid in the last election… but then I found this: http://www.theblaze.com/stories/high-speed-rail-project-linked-to-sen-reid-on-verge-of-landing-4-9b-fed-loan/
What a coincidence.

Update 2
The General Services Administration official tasked with organizing a now-infamous $822,000 Las Vegas conference plans to invoke his Fifth Amendment rights ahead of a scheduled Monday grilling on the Hill.

This Is Awkward

Breitbart lives!

In a new video provided to Breitbart.com, James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas demonstrates why Holder should stop attacking voter ID laws–by walking into Holder’s voting precinct and showing the world that anyone can obtain Eric Holder’s primary ballot. Literally.

Is There Nothing That Obama Can’t Do?

President Obama: On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but it’s important for him to give me space.
President Medvedev: Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you…
President Obama: This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.
President Medvedev: I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir.

Good question
“Obama won’t share these plans with the American people. However, he’ll share them with the Russians, and ask for their help in influencing the election. . . . What other nations has Obama asked for ‘space’ on American foreign and national-security policy so that he can win a second term? And what American interests is Obama willing to trade for that ‘space’?”

Is There Nothing That Obama Can’t Do?

Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!
Carol Platt Liebau, March 2009[W]hen he was at the HLR you did get a very distinct sense that he was the kind of guy who much more interested in being the president of the Review, than he was in doing anything as president of the Review.
Micky Kaus, February 2012The President’s decision-making method–at least as described in the [New Yorker] –seems to consist mainly of checking boxes on memos his aides have written for him.

2012 Presidential Election Map

Via reader Reginald, who explains;

Republicans have the edge thanks to a shift in electoral votes from the 2010 Census. If they win back the usual Republican states, they will win by exactly one electoral vote.
But Obama has a solid grasp on many states, and the Midwest is the key to victory. If he scores an upset victory in Florida, North Carolina, or Ohio, the election is over.
If the Republican gets an upset victory in Michigan, Minnesota, or Pennsylvania without losing FL, NC, or OH, that will wrap it up.

Play with the map here.

“Newt played rough in South Carolina and won big.”

That ought to tell the GOP something. Whether it will is another story. If this loss tonight makes Romney a stronger, better, more articulate candidate, terrific. But he has to learn from this stunning defeat: The base is itching for a fight with everything the Obama Democrats stand for and they don’t much care who gives it to them, just as long as somebody does. Tonight, that’s Newt.
As the late Al Davis used to say, “Just win, baby.” And, as the Democrats say, “by any means necessary.” It’s high time they got a taste of their own medicine — and understand there’s a lot more where that came from.

Things That Begin With E-X

Heh.

“Mr. Producer, wake up Brian-what’s his name-Brian Ross again, ABC News, the senior investigative reporter. Tell him to find out who Obama’s drug pusher was, would you please? Oh, use this; say it’s an ex-drug pusher because he likes to look into things that begin with e-x, an ex-drug pusher.”

Are We Facing a Major Crash in 2012?

Harry Dent Jr. was interviewed by Roy Green today, a follow-up to this recent article. He’s definitely an interesting fellow who had much to say.
Much of his focus was on the U.S. and Europe but there was this interesting/scary tidbit about Canada in 2012:

When an asset bubble bursts, prices often return to where the rapid, price runup began, he said. “Look at what your real estate was worth between 1996 and 2000. That is the range it will fall to … I think housing in Vancouver and Victoria could decline 60 or 70 per cent, while Toronto is more like 50 per cent, and Montreal a little less.”

Christie Vs Romney

Not showing up to rumble is a failed conservative policy;

When he was interrupted during his remarks by Occupy protesters shouting, “Christie kills jobs! Christie kill jobs!” Christie deadpanned, “Really?”
“Somebody’s going down tonight, but it ain’t going to be jobs, sweetheart,” Christie rejoined from the stage as the chanting continued from a cluster in the audience. “There’s this confusion that’s out there because if she was in New Jersey . . . she would know that we created 60,000 new private-sector jobs.”
Saying that the female protester was “blinded” by her enthusiasm for Obama, Christie continued, “And if she wasn’t so disoriented by the loss of hope and change, she’d understand that . . . Mitt Romney is the hope for America’s future.”
He went on to blast Obama to the clapping and cheering attendees as a “Chicago ward politician.”
It was in marked contrast to how Romney had handled the protesters who interrupted him earlier at the event.

I hope he was taking note. (Video)

Pleasing Your Enemies Does Not Turn Them Into Friends

Mark Steyn;

This country is broke, and the unprecedented scale of its brokeness is an existential threat. Yet, with the exception of Newt’s occasional flashes of contempt for the questioners, everyone else plays along with this absurd game. It’s not merely that the GOP is letting the left frame the contest but that a party willing to dignify this pitiful charade is sending a broader message about the likelihood of its mustering the determination to stand up to a Democrat-media establishment once in office and effect meaningful course correction.
I see Terence Jeffrey and Andy McCarthy are having a disagreement about the correct response to a question on gay adoption. The correct response is to take an unconstitutional federally-funded supersized condom, roll it over George Stephanopoulos’ head, and say, “That’s odd. I can no longer hear a word you’re saying. So let me throw in my two bits on impending multi-trillion-dollar ruin…”
