  3. Sometimes I find value in Mark Steyn’s comments and some time I do not. There was little of new thinking, just the usual things said before. Possibly getting a lttle to comfortable, it happens to allof us.
    Maybe it was the accent this time. Living as long as he has in Connecticut it seems the Quasi- British accent would start to fade. Cheers;

  4. What is so good about Steyn and Coren is that there is nothing new, it is the old verities that make them so special. Many “old” ideas were good ideas!

  7. Well of course we are all delighted that Mark Steyn self identifies as a pantywaist in the face of Gamil Garbi.
    But hey, he’s a pantywaist with a wicked 0.45 caliber pen!
    I would venture to add that he is no Capt Schettino, as Mark Steyn has hardly abandoned the ‘wheelhouse of civilization’.
    I can’t see anything particularly offensive about ‘women and children first’. What the hell is wrong with a little bit of chivalry in the face of death and destruction?
    Alternately, should we muscle grandma out of the way as we swan dive into the lifeboat, whilst ‘women and children’ become shark bait? Hey that would be quite the ‘equality’ gig…
    The muddled headed don’t believe in heroics mainly because they have lost or intentionally misplaced their values.
    Okay we can agree that Newt Gingrich is somewhat short of the white knight in polished armour, but would you take a repentant sinner riding on a reliably stubborn donkey?
    Audie Murphy some of your friends need a hand…they’ve got the “To Hell” part okay they just haven’t figured out the “and Back” part.

    Sadly, in my view, Mark Steyn, just as Conrad Black and Patrick Muttart, both brilliant conservative minds, have abandoned Canada for The “American Costa Concordia”, the Obama leftist and listing ship of state.

  9. I think that somewhere along the line Micheal Coren and Mark Steyn became BFFs. Not only do they both speak with a mongrel, quasi-Britsh accent and share social conservative values but, occasionally, they use identical, uncommon words in their columns – “ersatz”, for example.
    The interview was good, as usual, but it would be interesting to see Mark being interviewed on CBC or CTV where there would be a stronger contrast of opinions. Despite his success, he is virtually ignored by non-Sun media.

  10. What will it take for the GOP to realize that what we want are CONSERVATIVES to vote for? Fiscally, socially, and internationally, folks, not the best out of three.

  11. Speaking of abandoning ship, does anyone know why Mark has deserted his post at Steyn*nline.com? Did he make a fortune with his Christmas CD and has gone into semi-retirement? Lost his shirt in the stocks market and cannot afford the internet bills? Got upset at Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich supporters flooding his e-mail with hate posts?

  12. Stey complicates a very uncomplicated choice. America needs to return to the roots that made it great – sound currency/economy, constitutionally adherant governing and hands off free markets – Ron Paul embodies all these, I say that’s not a bad trade off for giving the foreign entanglements a rest for a while and rebuilding a proper military instead of a mercinary Blackwater military.
    As for the other candidates, they represent more of the slide into powerless austerity.
    The Candidate choice in this primary is a no brainer – if you want your country back from the crooks who stole it.

  14. But Occam, Ron Paul doesn’t have the talent, the skill or the necessary salesmanship to actualize his agenda, much of which, esp. in the financial arena, is excellent, agreed! His peers in Congress have made this clear: he just does poses, doesn’t actually go out there and sell — fight for his agenda.
    MikeSr / larben. I sometimes feel the way MikeSr does, but in end I swing over to the larben view. I’d like to see Steyn pursue more topics: he could do a superb job on central banking/counterfeiting if he spent some time on the subject.
    I’m always amazed at his comical self-deprecation. He makes an excellent point in granting the possibility that he may be a panty-waist but that this would not nullify the beauty of a civil behaviour standard. You’ve all noticed that even some conservative/libertarians will excoriate Ayn Rand for her idea-contradicting personal behaviour. But so what!! It doesn’t nullify or mitigage her philosophy just because she sometimes fails to live up to it.
    For honourable men, the women and children first standard is NATURAL. Not something which needs to be discussed and evaluated.

    There are no children,but plenty of women. In front of you are; Hillary Clinton,Wendy Cukier,Heidi Rathjen,Maude Barlow,Nancy Pelosi,Libby Davies,Elizabeth May,and only seven seats left in the last lifeboat.
    The sharks are circling…….;-)

  16. Steyn’s accent is quite authentic. Although he was born in Toronto, he attended King Edward’s School in Birmingham—the same one attended by J.R.R. Tolkien— for many of his formative years: thus, Steyn’s English accent. And now Steyn lives in New Hampshire.
    Too bad for Canada. But I don’t think we deserve him.

    That’s an unfair maiden comparison as they would all be on the ‘left side’ of the lifeboat, in which case it would capsize and all souls would be lost.

    Actually, I am just finishing the tale of Louis Zamperini in the book titled “Unbroken”. He floated, in an inflatable raft, some 2000 miles across the Pacific to the Marshall Islands during WWII through shark infested waters over a 47 day period and lost well over half his body weight only to be captured by the Japanese losing another 7 kg before wars end attended by more hunger, torture and deprivation.
    Try beating off the sharks, while your tyring to repair your leaking inflatable raft, during strafing runs by enemy aircraft, with 2 buddys incapacitated by hunger, thirst, and wounds. Add hours of burning sun and the odd typhoon for extra enjoyment…
    Louis Z. is the polar opposite of Capt. Schettino, truly a study in contrasts and it certainly wasn’t a ‘cruise ship holiday’.

  19. “He’s running on his hair”, reminds me of a party I went to on the weekend. Everyone there was saying how great Obahma is, and its sad that he gets no credit because of the recession. I said name me one bill that he passed, that led you to that decision.
    Most couldn’t answer only one said the shovel ready program. I said that program was supported by both parties and really doesn’t count much.These were also the same crowd that voted for trudau years ago. I posed the same question back then and only one came back to say it was because he created health care, which is so completely untrue. God help us
