I don’t know how Kaus thinks senior government is supposed to work but, in essence, what he described is true of any leader: issues are worked up and briefed as options by the staff and the boss’s job is then to decide on the preferred action.
If Mitt Romney or Newt became president tomorrow, they’d all operate the same way.
We don’t judge a leader by their decision-making method; we judge a leader by the decisions they make.
