CFL Picks, Week 2.

Thursday, 17:30 CST, Saskatchewan at Ottawa: The Riders O started slow last week but ended strong. Defense played well enough all game. We haven’t seen Ottawa yet so that’s a blank slate. I expect with another week of practice and the play-book Saskatchewan will push against the RedBlacks hard. Riders by 10.

Friday, 17:00 CST, Winnipeg at Montreal: The Bombers looked surprisingly good last week but the game was a one-off with all the lightning delays. I’m not sure it can be used as an indicator of future success. Both the Als and the Bombers defenses crumbled late game with the Als offense being unable to execute anything in the second half. Streveler vs. Willy? Pick Montreal by 5.

Friday, 20:00 CST, Hamilton at Edmonton: The TiCats played hard last week, but they let up on Mitchell. Will Masoli get a short leash after his ill-advised late game throw that capped the loss last week? Will we see Manziel? The Esks were in tough against a rookie QB last week but Reilly put on his top hat, remained calm and won. I predict a repeat. Edmonton by 7.

Saturday, 17:00 CST, Calgary at Toronto: Grey Cup Redux. Expect the Stamps to be hell-bent on proving something. Expect the Argos to be a little cheesed at how bad the O played last week. I’ll take Calgary by 10.

Apparently Capt. Obvious has to explain things to Canada

Because any idiot, save the current PM, understands that importing tonnes of steel, throwing a rivet on it and calling it Canadian, is about as slimy as it gets when it comes to trade. If that practice leads to the inability to make a tank, or an airplane, guess what? It’s a national security risk.

Asked why the Canadian steel industry poses a national security threat, Ross replied that Canada, on its own, doesn’t represent a threat.

He said the tariffs are designed to persuade allies to reduce the amount of Chinese steel that passes through their countries and then floods into the U.S.

The real problem for Canada is that we’ve spent thirty years touting this ‘advantage’ to every other trade bloc in the world. Trump isn’t stupid and he’s correct. What was, in good faith, agreed to in NAFTA isn’t what the reality is on the ground. What was supposed to be an integrated economy has turned into an international one-way door to flood the American market with crappy product. Buy any wheel rims lately? If you get the lower priced variants make sure you check that they are even round. Manufacturing parts? Way out of tolerance.

Canada has allowed this to happen to our friends. Is it any wonder the Americans are playing hard-ball now?

CFL Picks – Week 1

Ah. Tis the season! The CFL Season!

So many changes to the teams this year. For the most part, I’m guessing with my picks. It won’t be for another couple of weeks before the defences have enough film to really challenge the offences.

Thursday, 18:30 CST:  Edmonton at Winnipeg. Matt Nichols is out for a month or so due to a training camp injury. Mike Reilly is not hurt. Edmonton by 14.

Friday, 19:00 CST: Toronto at Saskatchewan. “BRING EM OUT, BRING EM OUT!” err <non-partisan voice> I’m not sold with Colllaros at QB for the Riders, Ray is Ray. Toronto by 10.

Saturday, 17:00 CST: Hamilton at Calgary. Flash in the pan or old college form? I guess Manziel will show us on Saturday. No doubts surround Bo Levi Mitchell except over-confidence in the really big games. Calgary by 10.

Saturday, 20:00 CST: Montreal at BC. Both teams disappointed last year. Both teams made changes to organization and coaching. Do we even know who is QB’ing for the Als? It’s a late game for the Als and that rarely works out for them unless the coach and GM are on the ball with the practices the week before. BC by 3.

I’ve imported up to 2006 and from 2014 up to the snapshot yesterday. I’m filling in the missing years, but that’s not important to the functioning of the blog.

There will probably be minor changes in the future.

Because Logic Is Hard

And so we arrive at the contradiction of feminists who denounce “toxic masculinity” as both all-pervasive and a fundamental evil, at least among white people, while simultaneously endorsing fatherlessness and family instability, i.e., the most obvious causes of the behaviour they claim to dislike.

One of these.

A Cunning Plan

A North Carolina State University sociology instructor contends that vegan and vegetarian men are guilty of “upholding the gender binary” and perpetuating “white masculinity.” Vegan and vegetarian men have, [says Mari Mycek,] reclaimed their “previously-stigmatised consumption identity” to wield power over women by framing their lifestyle as a rational, rather than emotional, choice.

Because a chickpea-heavy diet is the obvious way to oppress women.
