Now Is The Time At SDA When We Juxtapose!

1941 – 1945 : How the SF Bay Area was reshaped by WW2

Government records show that 1,647,174 passengers – soldiers, sailors, Marines and civilians like Red Cross personnel – boarded ships at Fort Mason bound for the Pacific. Two-thirds of all the troops sent to the Pacific in World War II passed through San Francisco.

November 2016 : Post-Election Group Hug in Dolores Park [San Francisco]

“This election is one of the most difficult elections we’ve ever faced, and we’re all in a lot of pain. Come meet at Dolores park for hugs and community support, including at least one giant group hug, to spread the love and remind each other that we are here for one another as one family.
Look for folks carrying a sign that says “Group Hug”
This is an open invitation, so invite everyone you can! Let’s get the biggest group hug you can imagine!”

The Media’s Smugness Destroyed Their Credibility

In a stinging editorial, Michael Wolff obliterates the narrow minded, completely corrupt mainstream media:

Not only did the media get almost everything about this presidential election wrong, but it became the central issue, or the stand-in for all those issues, that the great new American Trump Party voted against.
It all washed away. Beyonce. The tax returns. The theoretical blue wall. Trump as sexual predator. Putin. His shambolic debate performances. Hispanics. Indeed, every aspect of the media narrative, dust. This narrative not only did not diminish him, it fortified him. The criticism of Trump defined the people who were criticizing him, reliably giving the counter-puncher something to punch. It was a juicy target. The Media Party not only fashioned the takedown narrative and demanded a special sort of allegiance to it — Twitter serving as the orthodoxy echo chamber — but, suspending most ordinary conflict rules, according to the Center for Public Integrity, gave lots of cash to Hillary. The media turned itself into the opposition and, accordingly, was voted down.

There is a Cost to Depriving People of the Freedom to Speak Their Mind

Political Correctness has been on the rise for some time but seems to have been supercharged during Obama’s reign. This column explains how the overreach of PC Warriors hurt HRC and helped Trump:

The segment of the electorate who flocked to Trump because he positioned himself as “an icon of irreverent resistance to political correctness” think it means this: smug, entitled, elitist, privileged leftists jumping down the throats of ordinary folks who aren’t up-to-date on the latest requirements of progressive society.
Example: A lot of people think there are only two genders–boy and girl. Maybe they’re wrong. Maybe they should change that view. Maybe it’s insensitive to the trans community. Maybe it even flies in the face of modern social psychology. But people think it. Political correctness is the social force that holds them in contempt for that, or punishes them outright.
If you’re a leftist reading this, you probably think that’s stupid. You probably can’t understand why someone would get so bent out of shape about being told their words are hurtful. You probably think it’s not a big deal and these people need to get over themselves. Who’s the delicate snowflake now, huh? you’re probably thinking. I’m telling you: your failure to acknowledge this miscalculation and adjust your approach has delivered the country to Trump.

Modern America, Where Your Idealogy Excuses Your Bad Behavior

In a stunning new column, Victor Davis Hanson indicts Hillary & Bill Clinton and the entire American political system:

The Clintons suffer from greed, as defined by Aristotle: endless acquisition solely for the benefit of self. With their insatiable appetites, they resented the limits that multimillionaire status put on them, boundaries they could bypass only by accumulating ever greater riches. The billion-dollar foundation squared the circle of progressive politicians profiting from the public purse by offering a veneer of “doing good” while offering free luxury travel commensurate with the style of the global rich, by offering sinecures for their loyal but otherwise unemployable cronies, and by spinning off lobbying and speaking fees (the original font of their $100-million-plus personal fortune and the likely reason for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s decision to put all her communications, mercantile included, on a private server safe from government scrutiny). Acquiring money to the extent that money would become superfluous was certainly a Clinton telos — and the subtext of the entire Podesta trove and the disclosures about the Clinton Foundation.

In this podcast, John Batchelor and Mary Kissel discuss Hanson’s column with him.

Obamacare Death Spiral

As any 6 year-old with simple math skills would have predicted, the basic economics behind Obamacare were not sound and thus the main policy initiative of America’s Modern Messiah was doomed to failure. Richard Epstein, of the Hoover Institution, gives the details in this podcast.
Many more facts about this ill conceived program can be found here:

And what the insurers who have left the program have made clear is that they believe that, absent changes, the losses will go on forever. “The vast majority of payers have experienced continued financial stress within their individual public exchange business,” Aetna CEO Mark Bertolini said about the decision. In a call with investors last year, a representative from UnitedHealth said the company “saw no indication of anything actually improving” inside the exchanges. “We cannot sustain these losses,” UnitedHealth CEO Stephen Hemsley said on that call. “We can’t really subsidize a marketplace that doesn’t appear at the moment to be sustaining itself.”

As with all Leftist failures, expect no apologies or mea culpas. They’re incapable of it. With an endless stream of supporters whose memories are shorter than that of a gnat, they will just move on, setting their eyes on the next part of the economy to destroy.

The Collapse of American Journalism

Any honest consumer of American journalism has known for years that it tends to tilt left but in this presidential news cycle it has removed all pretense of trying to being remotely unbiased with its coverage. Whether or not you like Donald Trump is irrelevant to the fact that journalists are supposed to strive to be impartial. No longer, it semms.

Indeed, no foreign enemy, no terror group, no native criminal gang, suffers the daily beating that Trump does. The mad mullahs of Iran, who call America the Great Satan and vow to wipe Israel off the map, are treated gently by comparison.
By torching its remaining credibility in service of Clinton, the mainstream media’s reputations will likely never recover, nor will the standards. No future producer, editor, reporter or anchor can be expected to meet a test of fairness when that standard has been trashed in such willful and blatant fashion.
Liberal bias in journalism is often baked into the cake. The traditional ethos of comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable leads to demands that government solve every problem. Favoring big government, then, becomes routine among most journalists, especially young ones.
