A Canadian blog called The Torch has just made available a sidebar button. Bloggers may want to consider adding it to their site.
The Torch is one of a few Canadian blogs dedicated to military matters, especially Canadian military issues. Individuals interested in military discussion have embraced blogging in the United States, as the popularity of Milblogs shows. But, in Canada, the movement is much more tepid with few sites dedicated specifically to the topic.
For those who are into things military, whether former or current forces members, family members, or just plain interested, I suggest you put The Torch on your regular visit list. American bloggers may want to consider giving a push to Canadian military blogs. Getting involved in the discussions at The Torch will assist its owners in developing a strong forum for the things that matter to you. Putting the sidebar button up on your blog will direct traffic to the site, and help draw attention to Canadian Forces issues.
If you haven’t already done so, you may want to be added to the Canadian Heroes blogroll as well. There are many current and former members of the Canadian Forces in the blogging community, and your input is valued.
If you know of good sources to Canadian military sites, feel free to put them in comments.

Thanks, Cjunk.
This Yankee has added both sites to his Bookmarks.
(And folks might also like Strategy Page at www dot strategypage dot com covering military and intelligence matters. It’s not explicitly American in content, as it aims to look at these matters in a global context.)

PM’s fate may lie in Afghanistan Kandahar mission a potential pitfall

PM’s fate may lie in Afghanistan Favours election before next summer Kandahar mission a potential pitfall Jun. 24, 2006. 01:21 PM JAMES TRAVERS OTTAWA—Stephen Harper’s notably strong performance since winning the winter election isn’t the only reason Conservatives favour fighting another campaign before next summer. In August 2007, Quebec’s most famous regiment will be on its way back to Afghanistan. Seemingly unrelated, those events are inextricably linked. A Conservative strategy to morph a minority into a majority turns on Quebec, and Canada’s increasingly dangerous Kandahar mission is one of only a few issues contentious enough to deny the Prime Minister…

“A Conservative strategy to morph a minority into a majority turns on Quebec, and Canada’s increasingly dangerous Kandahar mission is one of only a few issues contentious enough to deny the Prime Minister…”
…as I’ve pointed out here previously. Just curious…if you had to pick between Canada “cutting and running” from Afghanistan, or Harper losing to Ignatieff and the Liberals returning to power ten months from now, which would you choose? Because “Torture Boy” Ignatieff is easily Liberal enough to forget everything he’s ever written on the matter and campaign on an anti-Afghanistan mission platform (or he may use needing Bob Rae’s support on the second ballot as an excuse). If Iggy goes anti-war, I book him as a favourite to win the next federal election.
Even Joe Clark wasn’t stupid enough to pin his re-election hopes on getting involved in a civil war in Asia.
Mark Collins, who posts at The Torch, usually copies his entries at Damian Penny’s blog as well.
Bob:
You mentioned civil war and I think you are correct. What place do the ultra-nationals have in civil war scenario? That should be extensively debated.
Hamid Karzai making statements to the effect that the Taliban are not threatening the continuance of the Afghan gov’t.
Iraqi leader extending ‘olive branch’ to insurgents to participate in new Iraqi gov’t.
Scenario changing, maybe new focus on N. Korea’s ‘test launch’ of new long range missiles and America’s rocket intercept capability.
Iraqi leader once again offering ‘amnesty’ period to insurgents.
While are troops are in the heat of battle as we post… God Bless them all.

Department of National Defence and the Canadian Forces website…-
Notice the “and” in the above heading.
Previous to 1974 the “and” would not have been necessary. There would be two (2) separate, distinct websites:
1. Department of National Defence website.
2. Canadian Forces website.
The time has come for the Armed Forces HQ to be taken out of the Dept. of Defence.
The two were forcibly jammed together in 1974 by Trudeau and then Min/Def MacDonald.
This enjambment resulted in the gutting of the Armed Forces; the “civilianization” of the Armed Forces. This was planned by Trudeau/Chretien et al.

Canada to confirm C-17 order as Boeing seeks more sales By Craig Hoyle in Long Beach Boeing expects a production contract from Canada within the next few weeks to supply an anticipated four C-17 strategic transports to help meet Ottawa’s requirement to support expeditionary operations, says the US manufacturer. The order commitment should come in time to guarantee Canada a unit price of $220 million – an opportunity expected to expire for other potential buyers in late June, says C-17 programme manager Dave Bowman. The Canadian government’s treasury board was expected to last week approve the C-17 deal as part…
