Keir Starmer’s Britain

Where the foxes caper unmolested, the government packs your school lunch and the Defence Secretary has resigned from Cabinet: “you have been unable, and the Treasury has been unwilling, to commit the resources that the nation needs to defend the country at this time of rising threats”.

Update;

Despite his departure, Healey asked defence ministers to stay in their posts.

But a few hours later, Armed Forces Minister Al Carns followed suit, saying the plan wasn’t “built for the threat we face” and wasn’t “sufficiently funded”.

The latest departures mean seven ministers have now stepped down from the government in the past month.

And another resignation: The pressure on Keir Starmer is intensifying by the hour.

Good comment by reader Orson here.

The UK Defence Secretary resigned not because Starmer refuses to appropriate the necessary funds. He resigned because the UK doesn’t have the funds to appropriate. The UK is very much like Canada in that it voluntarily dissolved industry. Instead they focussed on service and entitlement programs (their National Healthcare one of them). They voluntarily moved money away from Defence costs (including not making the threshold on NATO contributions). Now, the US, who has been making up the difference on all these European countries has drawn a line, and none of the EU countries are in a financial position to accomodate their own defense. It’s an embarrassment. It’s a hard lesson. And, it’s not being corrected because the “leader” of the UK realizes that to make significant changes negates all the “entitlement gifts” used by his Political party faction to bribe the electorate.

  1. The British Navy has (5) nuclear attack subs – none are operational:
    https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2026/06/the_british_navy_s_submarine_defense_link_is_broken.html

The British have (4) nuclear ballistic missile submarines that are almost 40 years old and (1) is operational at all times. That’s exciting.

Great News !!!!!!!!!!!!! – The British Navy is “DEVELOPING” a plan to fix all this:
    https://www.yahoo.com/news/world/articles/uk-develop-submarine-maintenance-plan-061032336.html?

So they have no Navy BUT they are developing a plan. Wow, OK, that should scare the crap out of Liechtenstein.

    1. Virtually no subs or destroyers but check out how many Admirals are still deployed

    2. (p.s., dont fergit, that’s SIR keir starmer. brit royalty thinks he’s the cat’s meow)

  2. The left used to giggle with glee when the Tories were going through leaders faster than diapers on a newborn. It turns out the Tories had nothing on Labour. They’re going through an entire cabinet in the same amount of time.

    1. heh heh heh.
      truly monty python worthy stuff.
‘yes minister’; ALARMING when its actually an accurate portrayal.

p.s. generally speaking in broadest terms, l cannot always reconcile the fact that any organization, viable business, system, etc CANNOT reinvest a mere 3% of its income to . . . . . .
defend all the rest of it. ah, but CanaDUH finds a way !!!!

  3. The simple fact of the matter is that the UK doesn’t have the money. You may recall about a year ago when the UK, France, and Germany were strongly advocating for their countries to provide peace keeping forces in Ukraine. It was estimated that they had personnel and material to accomodate only about 3 to 4 weeks doing so. Part of their “plan” was that the US would serve as an “insurance policy” to their involvement. They actually called it that. THIS WAS A TRAP, that relates to the above article.

There would have been conditions established that would have initiated the US’s direct involvement with boots on the ground in Ukraine. I have no doubt an event would have been orchestrated by the EU contingency to meet that threshold almost immediately. That would bring the US into their purposeful quagmire, which was the goal. Because, the US involvement woulld have financed their own efforts. They needed the “moneybags” ally to get directly involved so they could suck off the teat. This didn’t happen because the Dept. of War saw right through the strategy and *poof* the EU stopped talking about sending peace keeping forces. They needed that quagmire with the US’s direct involvement to avoid financing it themselves.

    1. I’m sure they’re increasing investment in surveillance and funding all the pseudo-refugees.

    2. Yes.
The citizenry of the UK is very likely tapped out as far as tax is concerned, it could always go higher, but then tax avoidance will become the national sport.
They currently are spending about £9.2 billion on foreign aid, and of that +20% is spent domestically for people who are asylum seekers and refugees. I’d start with cutting back about 90% of that amount, but I’m not a Labour type and doubt they care for my opinion.
If the UK were to allocate the entire foreign aid budget to their military they still wouldn’t have enough to cover the costs of bringing their military (mostly the Navy) up to a standard they should never have left.

The Defense Secretary has been a lifelong Labour supporter, I doubt this will change for him, but good for him for not accepting a nominal increase and calling it a step forward or whatever.
They’re hooped, perhaps some of those tapped out taxpayers will take a look around and notice who they’re spending £9.2 billion on, while that same group treats their hosts like garbage?

    3. l recollect POTUS Trump booted zelinskyyyyyyyyy outta the oval office when he brazenly stated
he could sucker USA into direct involvement in the conflict. hasnt happened yet eh?

      1. What wasn’t reported was whom Zelenskyy met with in his journey to the White House. He stopped over in Ireland (presumably for no reason). However, UK and EU representatives met him there, and likely coordinated his behavior in the White House (right down to not wearing a suit which Trump commented on when he showed up in the White House carport and Trump met him there).

My guess is that Meloni (Italy) gave Trump a heads up on what to expect from Zelenskyy’s visit, which is why Trump had Vance right in the middle of things to play “bad cop.” There is a reason I suspect Meloni on that but would take a while to explain.

    4. May I suggest that their “Net Zero” obsession is netting them zero funding for non-essentials such as National Defense. And after all … when you believe in open borders, you don’t believe you even have a nation to defend.

And … they’ve committed enough £££ €€€ to Ukraine … perhaps they could hire the depleted Ukraine Armed Forces to push back the African Islamic invasion? Oh wait. Diversity. Nevermind. There is no defense for suicide.

      1. Yeah, the biggest threat to the UK is of its own making, namely destructive government policies.

  4. Diversity is Strength, you grumblers. There is no doubt a mighty arsenal being developed in secret by genius DEI scientists and engineers even as you keyboard and complain. Wakanda class Star Destroyers orbit over head. The foreign enemies of Britain tremble in their boots even as our high heeled commanders plot their destruction with weighty memoranda, detailed reports, and, well written AI plans. Aaaargh!

    1. That mighty arsenal is being developed in secret by gangs of Muslim invaders for the coming civil war against the inifidels.

  5. I don’t know why the UK has a Secretary of Defense and an Armed Forces Minister, but he’s just resigned too, and he has an actual 24 years service record.

“Al Carns resigns as armed forces minister hours after defence secretary steps down”

    https://www.bbc.com/news/live/cgqeg09p3p1t

“Since joining the military at 19, Carns served during four tours in Afghanistan, and was awarded the Military Cross in 2011 in recognition of his service – the citation for his actions remains classified.
He had a 24-year military career, including serving as a Royal Marine Commando, though much of it is shrouded in secrecy.
From 2017, he served as adviser to three UK defence secretaries, before being elected Labour MP for Birmingham Selly Oak during the 2024 General Election.
Carns was swiftly promoted to the position of veterans minister, and became minister for the armed forces in last September’s reshuffle.”

    1. Seems to be a trend going on over there… and it may be 2 years before the next UK parliamentary election.

      “John Healey resigned.
      Al Carns resigned.
Now Pamela Nash resigns from the Defence Ministerial Team.
      Her warning?
“The trust of the public” is being damaged.
When ministers start walking out and talking openly about collapsing public trust, you know this is no ordinary political crisis.
The pressure on Keir Starmer is intensifying by the hour.”

  6. In a related story … the DOW is UP nearly 1,000 points today … in response to Trump bringing Iran to its knees. KM hardest hit. The US economy is poised to hit BOOM BOOM BOOM (sorry Iran) territory. Oil prices will crater, inflation will disappear with it … and The FED will lower the punishing, stifling interest rates.

As for my prediction? I told you all to BUY BUY BUY the artificial tariff DIP last Apr. 1

    1. They have shit on our beaches, they have shit on our landing grounds, they have shit in our fields and in our streets, we have run to the hills; we have surrendered.

  7. I guess the UK Defense Dept is like Canada’s: They have completely lost the bubble on what their primary mission is. But like us, they have feminist policies and DEI programs to advance diversity and culture change. Their personnel department is obsessed with it; indeed these are their marching orders with quota to aim for. They advocate and promote LGBTQ agendas (but I think Canada beat them in fielding the first trans pilot). One is a result of the other. But really, what is there to defend? Would you invade the place? What for, there is nothing worth taking. You would inherit a ticking demographics crisis, a financial disaster in the making and a dreadful rainy little island. Sad to say, and I did enjoy the time I spent there, but that was 25 years ago.

    1. if the muzzies take over theyve got nukes. but but but but the launch codes were kep seekwet.
uhuh uhuhu uhuh. correctamundo, in the hands of a high ranking muzzie who is a mole.
