About That Canadian Doberman Who Won BIS At Westminster

It’s unlikely to happen again.

Ontario appears set to push ahead with a ban on declawing cats and debarking and ear cropping dogs, a move animal welfare advocates say is years overdue and doesn’t go far enough.

The province is consulting on the possible ban on its regulatory registry through early February, after first pitching it as part of a sweeping omnibus bill of anti-crime measures last fall. The proposal would see the province’s animal welfare inspectors enforce a ban on medically unnecessary surgeries.

They never stop at ears- as those with short-faced and dwarf breeds are now learning. Enjoy your “weiner dog” while you still can. Goodbye, French Bulldog.

If Canadians want a domestic purebred dog community to provide quality puppies and the support structure that comes with it, they need to contact their lawmakers to ask they stop interfering in the interests of breed experts and the health care providers who serve them. We are better judges of what is and isn’t necessary to preserve and protect our breeds.

And in some cases, we’ve been doing it for thousands of years.

Again, they never stop at ears. They never stop at tails or cat declawing or eating beef, just as they never stop at “assault rifles”. They never stop until they reach their intended goal.

If you’re in Ontario, call your MPP.

  1. Spay/neutering isn’t “medically necessary” either. Prepare to have your cities overrun with strays in the name of “animal welfare”.

    1. So … your 15min. city apartment-dwelling neighbor just did the “brave, noble” thing and RESCUED a dog from the shelter. Left alone in the apartment all day, the dog barks incessantly… driving the neighbors to call the police, the pound, and anyone who will just make it stop.

So the dog rescuer returns the animal to the pound where it is eventually MAIDed. Or … the neighbor just turns the dog loose out in the countryside. However the barking dog is disposed of … it’s gonna end up dead.

So what’s more compassionate? Debarking the dog? Or MAIDing the dog? Short-sighted, poorly thought out animal “rights” activism is literally DEADLY to animals. Yeah … the dog has a nature-given “right to bark” … and I guess a “right to die” as well … as administered by PETA.

  2. Bob Barker should kick the shit out of Dug Ford.

When did this issue arise on Big Fat Comorbidity Dug Ford’s elbows up campaign of fear?
I had 2 Bouviers. Gorgeous Black Dogs. MUSLIMS HATE BLACK DOGS BTW….
    GOD DAMN THESE FILTHY LIBERALS

          1. Wait. We just had an article here that claimed BLACK Angus was the tastiest beef … and even BLACK Hereford’s that were crossbred with BLACK angus.

Ohhhhh … the Chinamen don’t eat beef. Nevermind

    1. Loved my 2 Bouviers as well!
      Little bears.
Cropping their tails was/is a health issue. Mine never had their ears docked and the vet said why.
(When my vet got to hug my second Boove she cried with joy.)

  3. Hate to this blunt, but ‘experts’ preach in ignorance or self interest, and that is so in any and all fields. Tails don’t need docking, and ears don’t need cropping.
As to end goals, if some would think for them selves instead of being sheep, that wouldn’t be a problem. Liberals and bible pounders are one and the same, Baa Baa scheep, they don’t think, and is why the cuckservatives and GOP’rs are called the STUPID parties.

    1. Gonads don’t require removal, either, but it sure helps prevent carpet stains. But then again, people don’t need pets (hate to be blunt). So, crawl back into your pod, eat your bugs and wait your turn to speak.

        1. Amazingly … my gonads are still intact, despite wanting to hump every trim leg that walks by *giggle* … and I’ve still got my wisdom teeth, tonsils, adenoids and appendix. But something tells me PETA would happily TAKE anything they could from me … such as my canine and incisor teeth.

    2. Oh how we con’s pine to be called Progressives, spit. I hear Englandstan is looking for Incest nurses might be right up your ally buttercup.

  4. Tis the nature of the beasts.
“Respect muh authority” especially where they have none.
Remember the Covidians..they walk amongst us.
As civilization is dragged down by parasites and bandits,we see these fools brag and strut.
Can Ahh Duh has a motto; If it is not permitted ,it shall be prohibited.
As usual by minions with zero knowledge, zero expertise of the thing they regulate.
In a failed nation that has retroactive law making (the great gun steal) using an imaginary description (Assault style) how shall these fools “Legally” describe the dogs they ban?
Or will it be “At the discretion” of a Liberal Appointed Judge, who would not know a dog from a floor mat?

  5. You can remove a young girl’s breasts because she is confused but you can’t reshape a dog’s ears because that is cruel punishment? Just because you don’t like something doesn’t give you the right to change it. Next thing you know they will release all the mentally disturbed people who will wander around our downtowns doing drugs and breaking into cars.

    1. 100%. Strange/evil world where animals get more protection than confused teens or pre-born humans.

    2. Next thing you know they will release all the mentally disturbed people who will wander around our downtowns doing drugs and breaking into cars.

      Ummm…

  6. The Vegan Nutters have no clue as to what is required to produce their vegan “food”, and are as insufferable as bicyclists and crossfitters.

  7. I remember reading an article about 20 years ago where the authors compared drawings and skeletons of cats and dogs from several hundred years ago with today’s modern equivalents. A number of breeds with compacted faces used to have longer snouts. There were other differences with hips and other joints. The features of different animal breeds change over time depending on the wants and needs of the consumers. Some changes are better for the animals, some are not.

Personally, I’d like to see breeds survive, but I’d also like to see breeds evolve in a way that does no harm to the animals.

    1. Be careful about that — one can choose from scores of historical photos available to make any case one wishes to, and they can easily do so in the reverse.

There’s a good deal of variability between members of a breed, and particularly when you expand that to dogs bred casually or commercially, without selection for anything beyond the ability to get puppies on the ground and out the door. Veterinarians receive zero training on purebred dog types, or on population genetics.

  8. Hmmmmm…my best friend of 14 years a Boxer/Pitbull had his tail docked already when I received him from the pound- he was a tad older than a year according to the documents. I didn’t know the specifics nor did I care. You had to be extremely vigilant with this dog around strangers and kids as he’d lick people to death if you gave him half a chance.

Anywho – It’s kind of telling how many people asked me if getting his tail docked was necessary. Sorry to say- almost all were women. And it made me wonder – since when is an individual’s pet ownership someone else’s business? For the same reason I don’t ask if you could lose a few pounds… I’m really not interested in your PETA militancy couched in passive questions.
Then again…it reminded me of a co-worker who bought a HumVee, an absolute beast of a vehicle and pretty damn cool in my opinion. He sold it two years later… when asked why he told me he got sick and tired of the death stares at traffic lights and nasty notes left on his windshield about how he was killing the planet.

We’ve raised a generation or two who think getting into people’s grills and not minding your own business is just fine.

    1. “…when asked why he told me he got sick and tired of the death stares at traffic lights and nasty notes left on his windshield about how he was killing the planet.”

Weak. Bro needed to put some “Nuke The Whales!!!” stickers on there. Maybe a nice shark face on the front. Let Karen really lose her tiny mind.

      1. Yeah, I get your point but as he put it to me…”It gets to you after a while”
        I don’t judge.
There’s a HumVee —>Limo conversion place somewhere in Toronto, is where it ended up.

    2. “We’ve raised a generation or two who think getting into people’s grills and not minding your own business is just fine.”

You can thank the teacher’s unions for that.

(on the other hand, it does make for some very funny FAFO videos…)

  9. In Alberta ear cropping, tail docking, and dew claw removal is a veterinarian ethics issue. It is not illegal as far as I know. Ear cropping involves a trip across the border or knowing someone. Tail docking and dew claw removal is often done by breeders. How not to get caught practicing veterinary is don’t tell anyone, ever. And trust me, vets never want to give up their reputation and thousands of dollars of income by asking.

  10. Shrug. Action? In Ontario?

Ontario: old Onondaga word meaning “where squaws spank squaw-men.”

  11. I’m not a dog person. I like other peoples dogs well enough, but don’t see myself getting one. And even if I did get one, not likely a purebred.

So all that to say I don’t understand the issues involved except very superficially.

I get that dwarf and short faced breeds might be desirable but I don’t understand why breeding them is an animal health issue.

Beyond the bureaucratic impulse, that is.

    1. Some breeds are not naturally small, and breeding for size can create health issues. Certain miniatures have this problem. For example, I had a family member with a very small dog, a miniature something-or-other. The dog had a nice disposition but could break a bone jumping off of the sofa. The brittle bones were a side effect of breeding for small size. Great Danes also have health issues because of the breeding up for a large size.

Tail docking and ear trimming used to be quite common for working dogs in order to avoid injuries. Now days, many people get it done for the look. That said, there are some cases where the dog will have health issues if certain procedures are not done, or will simply have a better quality of life if the procedure is done.

    2. Mutant head shape causes all kinds of problems.
Look at humans- mishapen head usually means severe retardation and major heath problems.

The most intelligent dogs are those with heads closest to the wild dog/wolf shape.

  12. Irony abounds. The woke clan with multiple piercings and tattoos want to protect animals from medically un-necessary modifications. Grrrrr.

  13. This is pretty much the zoophiles’ thought process.

“I am an animal lover. That gives me the moral high ground no matter what. It also makes me an expert in all animal matters.”

You’re better off throwing these people into shark infested waters rather than trying to explain how sharks survive.

Also, people claim I hate dogs. That is not true. Dogs are great. It’s their people I have issues with.

    1. I would also suggest that the PETA styled zoophiles … at their core HATE humans. And are horrified that humans have the ability and intelligence to manage the animal world. Their pets give them unconditional love … but their human companions … esp. these women’s wives … withhold their love for the slightest slight.

These people have a “human” problem … animal “rights” are simply their vehicle of HATE.

  14. Oh the irony, inserting a tampon into a dog’s ear is inhumane but sticking one up the fake Vava of a man pretending to be a woman is progressivessssssssssssssss. I’ve had rescue dogs for forty years, I always adopt the dogs no one else will take, I’d love a pure bred but not going to happen but I can always hope?

    1. “I’d love a pure bred but not going to happen but I can always hope?”

We got lucky(?) and got a rescue pure bred German Shepherd. She sweet, but won’t shut up if she gets keyed by one of her protection traits. Hard on the visitors, and us. Other than that, she is cute.

Stick to the mutts, they love you too.

  15. Our veterinarian has a sign at her office that reads, “If your pets are your children I am not the vet for you.” We love her.

  16. Amazing animal, looks AI.
I was reading an “interest” story. Something about the struggle to get to the top. But it was a human interest story.
I clicked on it half hoping to discover that “Penny” works as security for the automotive salvage industry, has a spikey collar, skull nipple piercings, and habitually eats Marlboro butts.
    Alas…

  17. “Penny” (the above Doberman photo) is a beauty.
I love dogs, some more than others. I don’t hate cats, but they’re not for me.
and I love it when the gov’t doesn’t tell me which sock to put on in the morning.

    1. I like cats … primarily because they live the lifestyle for which I yearn … laying about the house without a worry in the world. My last dog was a beautiful European standard Bernese Mtn. Dog. Euro standard meaning not a fat-faced American standard. She was lean and regal. Why did I like her? … because when she wasn’t running in the dog park … she was like a giant house cat … A big LOVE laying about with her sad compassionate eyes.

  18. Thug Ford’s Morontariowe Liberal government. That kind of legislation is straight out of the ENDP/Commie playbook

The smart money will setup businesses adjacent in Quebec, New York and Michigan to perform these services.

  19. My first reaction to your headline was: “Is that how you spell ‘bitch’?” But then I realized…

  20. I look at what Breeders and show rings did to the arse-ends of German Shepherds and …… well, let’s just say I don’t have a dog in this fight – other than to say government should mind their OFB.

But if I did, it would be a Greater Glengarry Moosehound! 🙂

  21. My MPP is an NDP.
    So she’s nuts.

I don’t declaw cats, I train them, but it’s my choice and my furniture.
Frankly, if your cat is outside killing songbirds I should get to leave dog shit at your front door while you pay the federal fines.

My Bouviers get their tails docked but not their ears.

These animal welfare twats are no different than COVID Authoritarians.
I’m getting really, really tired of these people.

  22. The same women who object to “unnecessary” surgeries on dogs on the grounds that it’s cruel to the animals unable to consent have no problem having their sons’ dicks cut off because Mama had wanted a girl.

The sons, that is, that managed to escape their mother’s womb alive and weren’t “terminated” because Mama was afraid it would ruin her figure or her career, or that Papa would be pissed when he found out Mama had had a black baby.

AWFULs are pathetically sentimental. Actual empathy for other living things, human or otherwise, is quite beyond them.

  23. While we’re at it, I suppose we should apply this logic to humans, as well. Nose rings (unnecessary medical procedure), earrings (unnecessary medical procedure), earrings on todlers (medically unnecessary without consent), tattoos (unnecessary medical procedure), nose jobs (unnecessary medical procedure), face lifts (unnecessary medical procedure), body sculpting (medically unnecessary), Umbilicoplasty (medically unnecessary), liposuction (medically unnecessary), breast augmentation (in most cases, medically unnecessary).

    The list is long.

On the pet and show side of the matter we have technology sneaking in to cause more problems to the AKC (American Kennel Club). There are a growing number of Corporations offering cloning services for dogs, cats and equine. And, while this only provides a genetic match, behavior can be taught. So, is cloning a previous BIS cheating? This is turning into a multi-Billion dollar industry. For about $50,000 you can clone your dog. This is even more controversial on the equine side in that you can clone the genetic markers of a revenue generating Triple Crown winner.

In short, I think you have the same “progressive” idiots sticking their noses into personal issues (clipping ears on a doberman, saving your couch by declawing house cats, etc. ) so they can feel the sense of over valued accomplishment, while sporting a nose ring, earrings and a recent tummy tuck. Hypocrisy is thy name.

    1. Addendum: The more I think about it the more I realize that if you wish to challenge the dog ear clipping ban, you have everything you need right there in Ontario.

Legal guardians in Ontario possess the authority to have their child’s ears pierced as young as 3 months of age. It is legal, and only requires consent. And, amusingly, at 3 months a child will not yet have had their vaccine shots yet , but a puppy would have. So, arguably, the doberman would be better protected from infection than the child would.

  24. Still wondering if that Doberman has had tail surgery. The ears are obviously unaltered, but is that tail full length? Seems odd to do nothing to the ears and half a job on the tail…

    1. Dobermans look like floppy eared labradors if their ears and tails aren’t docked. Ears that stand up have had half cut off to make a point and training and scar tissue make them stand up.

      1. There’s no scar tissue. Ears stand because they’re supported in tape while the ear cartilage continues to mature through the puppy stage. If cropped after cartilage matures, the ears won’t stand (unless it’s the type that stand naturally erect, which happens in a few breeds, like Manchester Terriers).

It’s not something I’ve “heard about”. I began in Dobermans before moving to Mini Schnauzers, and have probably been through the process a couple hundred times.
