Blacklocks: A federal regulator yesterday predicted weaker 2025 sales of zero emission vehicles just ahead of mandatory quotas. MPs on June 17 voted 194-141 to uphold the federal mandate that requires 20 percent of 2026 new vehicle sales be zero emission: “Weaker sales in 2025 are likely.”

Assuming there is such a thing as zero emission vehicles (there isn’t, as EVs have a built in carbon foot print LCA that exceeds ICE vehicles up until around 60 to 80k kms), how are these lying Jacobins and Bolsheviks going to enforce such. No one is legally forced to buy one, yet.
How will they enforce the quota? They’ve already said – a $20,000 fine for every electric vehicle short of the quota. This will be passed on to customers. And dealerships will go out of business.
Rather than zero emissions (which I agree, there is no such thing) make every vehicle have an emissions sticker, just like gross weight. Then people can argue what the numbers mean and they can be adjusted until correct.
Or ignore the nonsense all together.
Serious news agencies should just refuse to use the term ‘zero emissions’. You know it’s not true, so why perpetuate the lie?
(of course, they should also refuse to call every native who attended a residential school a ‘survivor’, too…)
I kind of like “survivor” and would be happy with its use if extended to replace “graduate” from all public “educational” establishments.
Good point, especially now.
Based on what we know so far:
– Carney is a typical eco-Marxist EU-style + he still has eco-nuts like Guilobolo in gov. So all requests from mere mortals like us to back down on these EV quotas will go on deaf ears, he will NOT budge.
– If 20% EV will not be met, there will be $20K/unit fine. Dealerships will not pay out of their pocket, so these fines will ramp-up non-EV prices.
– This problem will become evident in 2nd half 2026; dealerships will start to notice the problem of being far below 20% EV sales and all costs of sales + service of gas vehicles will start to go up.
My advice for all Canadians planning to still stick around: from now until July-Aug ’26 you have time to make sure you have a reliable/good/low-service-fees regular gas vehicle that can stay in good shape for the next 10-15 years. This way you can alleviate the hurt re personal vehicle for a decade or two.
My grandson has been planning to buy a new car for months now. He has the cash, he knows which model he wants, but he won’t get it done. I keep warning him that very soon prices will be much higher and he should act NOW, but he just procrastinates. How to I spur him into action?
Give him some ideas of what he’ll be allowed to drive.

Best Chinese EV’s
At some point in the next couple of years, Canadians will go to a vehicle dealership and find only EV’s waiting, and turn to walk/drive away. I have no idea what vehicle dealerships are going to do with these unsold EV’s
Perhaps, (this is a stretch here folks…) drivers will become MUCH more careful driving, knowing that the alternative to driving their current gas/diesel will be to stand in line waiting for an EV to charge somewhere they don’t want to be.
Meanwhile, the current #Libranos are polling well above majority status. This will embolden them, get ready…
Can you imagine opening your daily newsfeed, “GM to pull all production from Canada to relocate only to the USA” ???
Hilarious, I know.
and, what DanC said above regarding a reliable low cost vehicle… if you’re serious about keeping it, have a maintenance plan, know how to replace brakes and basics, change the oil regularly… you know the drill.
There’s some smart people here, so what’s the play? Pull a Carney and make a linked chain of offshore, numbered companies to “buy” 50 electric cars from a dealership for $1 down, then never take physical delivery of them and never make a payment, in exchange for a cash kickback from the dealership? By the time it all gets sorted out, the dealership can gamble that the mandate won’t exist anymore. Or something simpler? I’m tired of other people getting rich of these green energy scams, I want a slice of that taxpayer cash.
There is an article in today’s National Post (behind a paywall, perhaps a more tech savvy individual can do the archive thing) The headline reads that 5 Auto Execs warned, back in May, that the EV mandate would cause “serious damage” to their industry.
Apple is investing 600 Billion in a growing , minimal regulation economy.
The Board of Directors will undoubtedly be seeing the writing on the wall and shutter their plants and move all production to the US, or Mexico if a deal is made.
The unemployment rate in Windsor is above 12% with over 10k working age males without a job. What happens when the big automakers shut down? What happens when the steel makers shut down? Of course, the aluminum smelters don’t have to worry because they are in Quebec and will receive any money they want to keep them afloat.
What will be the response of the Greatest Economist Ever (TM) ? It will be to print money, just as he did in both central banker gigs he held. Inflation.
As the economy craters, the deficit will balloon even greater than the current unrealistic estimates. Minimum 110 Billion this year alone. Inflation.
BUT! We must cling to our red fleur de lis. We can perhaps have it printed on a pillow case (made in China) that we can bite as we are being sodomized.
Road trip?

I’m not positive, but I think light trucks are excluded, for now anyway.
Maybe we’ll all become contractors
The Lost Nation.
A century from now, when all this is sorted out, our surviving descendants are going to look at the situation, and say, “what the PHOCKK were they thinking?”
Either that or it will all be memory-holed.
Remember: “What the Party presents as truth, is Truth.”
The goal is the destruction of Canada. The excuse is the Green Agenda – climate change, sustainability, in short, UN Agenda 21, coupled with the Club of Rome population reduction targets and WEF idiocy. So if the dealerships close, that will be a net benefit to the agenda as they don’t want you to have mobility except public transportation in 15 minute cities (which won’t be to your benefit either). All of this is predicated on a eugenics idea, coupled with the writings of Thomas Malthus (who made some bad assumptions – he was not a fortune teller) that the world will overpopulate if left to its own devices. These idiots really believe that you are the problem and that you must be controlled and that they, and only they, are wise enough to navigate the future. You are considered to be inferior because you don’t believe in their dogma which is based upon lies and self delusion.
