[South Carolina State Treasurer Curtis Loftis] announced that South Carolina will divest $105 million worth of Disney debt securities due to concerns over the company’s leadership and its embrace of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) principles.
Loftis said Disney has abandoned its fiduciary duty to shareholders in favor of ESG, which he defined as a “speech and behavior code that was … created by the left and delivered to everybody else.
“The sane, sober, talented, mature people are gone, and now you have the gender studies crowd running Disney,” Loftis said, “That’s why their movies are flops and their market cap, I think, is about half what it used to be. It’s a tremendous loss to America — we all grew up on Disney,” he added.
Loftis pointed to poor box office performance for Disney films and the 50 percent drop in Disney’s stock price from all-time highs in 2021 as evidence of flailing leadership.
Why should government be able to play the stock market?
That’s a form or an invitation to insider trading.
The biggest business story this year will be the previous corruption and crime committed by Disney and Reedy Creek Improvement District. There was self dealing, bribery, and municipal bond fraud. The new CTFOD Board forwarded their report to DeSantis and the Florida Legislature in December. Expect to see investigations in the next few months and indictments by mid year.

My old boss had a simple philosophy about business: Find out what people want or need; get/make it; sell it to them. Most of us grew up watching shows, that where innocent and fun, and otherwise taught kids about consequence.
And we luckily had to find real happiness on our own.
Our parents where to damn busy working or fixing up the house to find it for us.
But that hour on Sunday night, either at home or at grandmas , or that Disney movie that day before Christmas break at school looking back was pretty magical.
Things change, but boy do people ever forget their roots.
They matter.
My leftist Niece just announced that she now screens EVERY Disney program before she allows her kids to watch them. That’s my LEFTIST Niece. Because it’s HER small children.
Needless to say … my conservative daughter is totally OFF Disney … except CARS and classics.
Talk about stepping in it. Disney used to be the gold standard of kid-safe wholesome family entertainment. They were actively sought out by parents. They became “progressive” and have “progressed” to the point that any sane parent actively avoids them.
I have the same question that I have had for years now: where is the shareholder revolt?
Where are the people who have millions invested in Disney and are seeing their investments devastated? How are they possibly remaining silent through all this? It’s not like it’s a secret….it’s not like no one knows what is happening (and why). Gillette, Bud Light, etc…aren’t these wealthy investors supposed to be smarter than the rest of us?
