      1. BTW … my automobile insurance company considers road hazards as “no-fault” accidents and does not punish me (raising rates 50% ?!). My broker actually advised me to report an accident I had as “airborne” debris … which is fully covered and does not impact my risk assessment as a driver.

        This man needs a better insurance broker … who should have advised him to report running over an “unavoidable” road hazard.

One little infograph spread by Twitterbots has a number for the average insurance premium cost for one driver and vehicle that is literally more than my entire insurance bill- and I have a lot of crap insured.

    That heat from pavement sitting for hours at a slow paced makes being more melting feelings to happen as well hoping that the next charging station is operational and not occupied by someone else for hours or in a line up for one as well…

    1. Tesla sold just enough cars with just enough consumer satisfaction to make it appear that battery cars were viable.
      But now reality is beginning to reassert dominance. Tesla will linger on, but other manufacturers who were overly optimistic are adjusting their plans. Ford just halved production forecasts for their wildly impractical Lightning truck. By my estimate, the Lightning carries the equipment of a whopping 6 gallons of gas. Sure it uses it very efficiently, so I figure it equals 24 gallons in a gas truck. But my 1983 F100 holds 19 gallons each in its 2 tanks. I’ve gone 680 miles without stopping. I get nearly the same performance 40 years later without a major repair.

      I like Toyota’s new hydrogen-electric vehicle concept, where they actually use electricity to create onboard hydrogen to fuel the internal combustion engine. Mitigates the biggest problem with hydrogen-fueled vehicles, and the one that has made them unavailable until now…the storage issue.

      1. They love selling pickup trucks especially high end ones. I never thought I’d see the day where a pickup truck would reach a $100K. There are fewer sedans because they don’t sell as well as folks prefer SUVs which aren’t as practical or as versatile as vans which are going the way of dodo birds as have station wagons.

  6. It’s an expensive proposition to pay for false solutions to false problems especially when the technology is dangerous. Battery Cars have a significant life-cycle embedded carbon footprint that likely will not reach breakeven with ICE vehicles before battery replacement. Non hybrid Battery cars are essentially a half ton of marginally stable high density chemical energy storage on wheels. Insurers will likely make them unaffordable to the middle class.

  7. Yea, saw this on U-Tube the other night. A SCRATCH on the Battery Cover and the Dealer is right there literally pullin yer wallet out & signing over your first born. 61K n change to replace battery when Vehicle BNIB = 59K n change.

    What an utter joke. Think I’ll stick with my 16 yr old D’Max…at least the most I ever paid for a pair of Batteries for it (Odyssey Extreme’s) was $560 ea CAD. 850 CCA per (& good for -60C)

    I have zero sympathy for some virtue signalling MAOLander and his 60k “look at me – ain’t I Kool” purchase.

      But all of your remarks about the uselessnes of EVs are spot-on. Indeed they can’t be sold even in a situation where there is a huge shortage of conventional vehicles for sale. Dealerships right now have remarkably little for sale other than EVs which no one wants.

      2. LED flashlights get far more mileage out of those batteries than the incandescent flashlights ever did. I haven’t used or bought an incandescent flashlight in over 20 years. Those LEDs lose very little energy to generating heat. An incandescent bulb loses at least 60% of the energy to heat.

        We have LED bulbs everywhere in the house, too. A 60-watt equivalent consumes 7 watts, and lasts many times longer than an incandescent bulb. I almost never replace one. As an aircraft mechanic, I installed LED landing lights in our flight-school airplanes. They drew 1.2 amps instead of nearly 8, and made more light at the same time. They were good for thousands of flying hours (while lighted) instead of 25. Yes, they cost more, but in the end they saved us plenty of money. No cancelled night flights, no shop time spent replacing them constantly.

  13. The car was fine. Kid probably went over a speed hump too fast. The big noise freaked him out so he brought it in. His story is sketch, claiming that he avoided a problem while presenting a damaged vehicle. Moron. Now he’s totalled out.
    Public service here is being informed that a speed hump can total an EV. Just thinking about all that weight coming down onto the hump that’s shows so very many previous scars… Makes me wonder how many are driving around damaged like that. Huh. Might catch fire anytime. Hmmmm…. best recall all of them. Evs should be checked every 6 months for damages like that. By a professional don’t ya know.

      1. Yes, as stated the car was probably fine; but it’s an EV subsidized with other people’s money AND drives up insurance costs, AND requires special equipment for municipalities to put them out. Best to require inspections, at diminishing intervals, until the point is made clear.

  15. At the mall yesterday and they had EVs placed around with the lease agreement on the driver doors.. 3 year leases.. 12000 km a year for 600 and 800 dollars a month plus HST.. A bad deal with zero allure if you plan on doing more than grocery shopping in it..

    A computer on wheels.. A smartphone on wheels.. If the battery don’t get yaa the operating system will.. You will never own the software and the planned obsolescence upgrade cycle built into that.. All modern junk lasts 5 years..

    funded subsidies for EV vehicles production. It would be fair to distribute that cost evenly
    for those virtue signalling Canadians, who buy E.V. vehicles. Rather than force the wiser

  24. What most don’t realize is that the EV battery is comprised of thousands of individual cells. When the protective cover around the battery compartment receives damage resulting from impact shock the vibration from the shock can damage any one of a number of cells. A damaged cell can mean a disturbance in the conductivity of the metal conductors in the battery circuitry, which could result in any number of situations causing excessive heat in the circuit either in charging or discharging the battery. Even being involved in a low impact fender bender can cause damage to a battery array in an EV and in that situation there would be no indication on the battery cover that there may be damaged cells in the array. The EV commitments being pushed by governments and greenie freaks are just one additional step in reducing our freedoms. Unfortunately too many sheep have been taken in and conned because they are too lazy to apply some critical thinking and some basic research into what is transpiring around them. These same sheep allowed the governments to use them for a medical experiment that is becoming a Dr. Jekyl/Mr. Hyde nightmare.

      Low Amperage and milliVolt control circuits run through a wiring loom subject to wide temperature ranges,road salt,dust,moisture ,vibration and abrasion..

      I am now convinced that the proponents of self driving cars and or any computer controlled drivetrain,have no real world experience.

  25. Disposable Cars. When the battery dies, you just throw away the whole car.

    What’s the salvage price of the other parts like the body panels or the seats? Zero. There will be a glut of vehicles with batteries that don’t hold a charge all appearing at the same time.

    As far as replacing body parts after an accident? OMG! You had a crash! The battery is now completely compromised. Just like Kyle, Your Car Could Explode Anytime! According to the experts at the dealership.

  27. My buddy and his wife got back from Europe a few weeks ago. They had reluctantly rented a Hyundai Ioniq hybrid after being told it was the only car available. They drove it for two weeks with no problem and took it up on the autobahn for half an hour at 150 to 170 k/h to return it at Frankfurt Airport. That killed it. They pulled off onto a secondary highway where it died; they had to scramble to find a taxi to the airport.

    That was the easy part. Then came a week of never-ending phone calls and emails to the rental company to explain what had happened and where the car was.
