2. Well, well, well. So, that explains it then.
   In my condo, a blue Tesla is parked blocking half of the throughway and two parked cars. Saw it early last evening and thought, That’s odd. Saw it again later and decided to investigate. Yup, plugged into a regular electrical outlet on a concrete pillar. I gather it takes only 12 hours via a regular residential outlet.

   I have a friend on a BC island who does this at his house. Told me he plugs it in as soon as he gets home from work and by golly he has enough juice to get to work and back next day!!!

   As many here have observed, the authorities surely know e-car mobility is not scalable which of course is THE PLAN.

   Was reading about the UN/WEF “15-minute city” project and DDG’d “15-minute city Vancouver”. Yup, we’re on board BIGLY. That is, being able to acquire all the goods and services you need within a 15 minute WALK or BIKE RIDE. And there’s much excitement that by golly Vancouver is almost there. And oh, gas stations are disappearing.

3. When I was a young infantry officer, we carried a field radio which had a battery the size of a carton of cigarettes. During winter field exercises when we were doing dismounted operations for an extended period of time, it was always stressed to put the spare battery inside our parkas to ensure that the spare(s) wouldn’t lose its charge due to the cold. It was also stressed that the battery in use would lose its power quicker the colder the temperature–hence we should turn it on only when we actually needed to transmit. It appears, battery technology has not progressed since the 50s (the era in which the radio and batteries we carried in the late 80s, were developed). Having said that, I truly hope all the electric car owners realize just how dangerous operating an electric car is outside the environs of a city during the winter. The clip shows that electric cars cannot even charge when it is “Canada cold” and the owner is unable to put their electric car in a warm garage to charge their vehicle. From the events occurring during this cold snap, us “regular folks” should deduce that the most efficient use of our money when purchasing a vehicle is to buy a gasoline powered one.

EV cars are going to be repossessed after this winter as people will stop making the payments and used Teslas will be without any value,as a result,finance company’s will stop financing them and sales will stop. I predict FORD may not survive without massive government help as their F 150 lightning will be unsaleable. Hats off to their new CEO for destroying the largest selling vehicle in North America.

   1. As I outlined a few days ago, these are specialty vehicles at $140K per. It was bad enough pre-Covid when F350 diesels were just hitting $100K. But this is ridiculous, to avoid paying $400/mo for gas. Just silly, the economics don’t add up.

      And the people I am familiar with that could afford that much for a vehicle, well, they don’t drive trucks either. I agree, this will be an upcoming financial disaster for Ford, making very expensive vehicles, only for the few.

10. Not just tesla.

    Owner of a $70k hybrid jeep across the street is struggling. Keeps it in his garage, never got below 25F, will not work in hybrid or electric mode.
    Gas engine still starts, so he’s basically got a 4 cylinder wrangler that gets 16mpg.
    Seems to be programmed to protect the expensive battery at all costs.

13. Never mind winter… What’s going to transpire (perspire) when summer comes around?! While our summer is admittedly only now actually heating up, the same cannot be guaranteed for yours…!!!

14. Bush pilots sometimes lit fires under their aircraft engines to warm them up (loosen the oil) in very cold weather. That was before synthetic oil. Maybe tesla owners could do the same.

    1. That was my father’s block heater in the 1950s before electricity hit rural Alberta. A bucket of burning gas under the tractor’s engine for an hour or two worked like a damn..

    2. They even drained the oil into containers and brought it indoors where they slept to keep it warm.
       Come fly time they dumped it back in the sump after warming the block up over a fire with a blanket wrapped around the engine.

       1. Oil in a metal bucket beside or on the wood stove, bring the battery inside as well. Oil dilution is a cold weather option, just before shut down you inject fuel into the oil sump to thin out the oil, so it will turn over easier.. The fuel boils off as the engine warms.. Semi-syn is as best as you’ll get, no many approved full syn oils out there.. A Herman-Nelson or Tannis unit is a luxury. Sometimes a couple in car heaters in the inlets and some engine tents are all you’ve got!
