China has vowed to “fight to the very end” to stop Taiwanese independence and warned that foreign interference in Taiwan is “doomed to fail”, stoking already soaring tensions with the United States over the self-ruled island.
“If anyone dares to secede Taiwan from China, we will … fight at all costs and we will fight to the very end. This is the only choice for China,” Chinese defence minister Wei Fenghe said at the Shangri-La Dialogue security summit on Sunday.
In a fiery response to US defence secretary Lloyd Austin, who spoke on Saturday, Wei said: “No one should ever underestimate the resolve and ability of the Chinese armed forces to safeguard its territorial integrity”.
The superpowers are locked in a growing war of words over the self-ruled, democratic island, which Beijing views as part of its territory awaiting reunification.
In a veiled swipe at Washington, Wei said “some country keeps playing the Taiwan card against China” to “interfere in internal affairs”.
“No one can stop China’s path to reunification,” he added.
They’ve seen Biden in action, most recently lifting tariffs on China, because we all know that nation plays so fairly on the international economic stage.
I think the last thing China truly feared was the ever-present pressure of Trump’s economic boot on their necks.
I am not aware of Biden lifting China tariffs, he is only considering it. Which is a shame these tariffs are a crime against the American people and should have been shredded years ago even if not for inflation!

Yeah like that’s going to happen. However, the Chinese have seen how difficult it is for the Russians to subdue the Ukrainians and they share a land border. I’ve been saying for years that crossing the Straits of Formosa and actually taking Taiwan might not be a cakewalk for the CCP.
There is no doubt Communist China can overwhelm the Chinese free in Taiwan. I think what the communist gang fear is that the resistance will be so fierce and enduring that they won’t be able to cover up how hard it was.
