  1. This one actually makes sense, to me. Why should governments give a damn about teachers’ math skills?

Their job is to propagandize Canada’s children, not educate them!

    1. “Why should governments give a damn about teachers’ math skills?”

Because how else will the children be able to count the 54 genders?

  2. Math tests for teachers are unconstitutional, but making participation in society contingent on participating in a medical trial is fine.

  3. Much like biology, math has become an abstract concept, 1+1 or 2+2 can now equal anything you want it to be. I wish my banker/investment broker would let me use a new concept in math, I could really bump up the return on my investments.

    1. OWG, a friend of mine used to teach Biology at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. One of the English teachers asked him to teach her course during her holidays. But it was nixed as he wasn’t considered qualified. When his holidays neared he asked who would teach his Biology class. The answer was anyone from the English Department.

  4. Bernier is sure talking the talk.
Still hard not to suspect grifting, but he is red-pilled beyond belief for a Canadian politician.

    1. Well, he gave up a pretty well paying gig on Bay Street and gave up a pretty well paying gig in the so called conservative party.

I think that gives him some credibility.

      1. And what completely & entirely erases whatever credibility he may or may not have is the fact that he’s just another central Canadian politician.

I will not ever vote for another central Canadian politician, no matter what party he/she/it stumps for.

    2. Max has been consistent for years why do you suspect him of grifting?
      What exactly is it?

  5. Okay, as long as it’s an independent body – like, say, former math teachers and not the current crop of bureaucrats – that makes the test. The current test doesn’t only test math skills: some questions are about the contents of a valueless indoctrination book produced by the Education Ministry, making sure that all teachers toe the Toronto line about “education”.

    1. 70% is based on the grade 3, 6 and 9 EQAO test that every student in Ontario takes…
30% is based on pedagogic methods

the one candidate willing to give evidence passed the math portion and failed the pedagogic section

all the rest is based on statistical analysis that is suspect, as it’s based on disparate impact theory, on a single data point, which ignores individuals to solely look at racist group membership is the most general way possible…

  6. It must be then that all the wild numbers on Wuhan flu mean nothing to them and those they teach.

  7. The global elites are desperate to rule over a dumbed down society of serfs, thus the ruling makes absolute sense. Smart people aren’t easily ruled over are they?

    1. Rose, the smart (and well-educated) people I know have been ruled over quite easily the past two years and had no problem lining up for their double jabs plus booster. They’re mostly my family. Sigh.

  8. Canada has adopted the US model of the (actual) racism of lowered expectations. The favoured POC (Asians excluded) can’t possibly be expected to compete in math or anything else because the “enlightened” have pronounced them “victims” of racism. If they are so stupefied from systemic racism, why do we want them as teachers at all? I guess in the pursuit of racial vengeance for a racist perception about as real as an hypothesis, all the victims (oops, I mean students) of public education can be stupefied as well so that, in cultural Marxist tradition, there will be equity in stupefaction. This will be eventually be matched with equity in poverty.

      1. I went through that with one of the idiot HR Karens at work.
My argument was that we should hire based on merit instead of race and gender diversity.
I walked her around to where her last word on it was that diversity IS merit.

      2. Sadly, I can’t give my alma mater any less money than I already am not, and they’ve long since stopped calling me begging for donations.

  9. This article is very likely the only criticism of the Court’s decision that will ever appear in the mainstream media:

“The Ontario math test decision is where we end up when race becomes more important than demonstrated competence. Not only does it undermine merit, it’s insulting to non-white people. In effect, the judges are saying that racialized people, even those with a university education, don’t have the intellectual capacity to pass a math test.”

  10. Tell me more about the value of an education.
These teachers are insisting that an education is worthless.

    1. They have long done that. I married into a family of teachers. It provided tons of entertainment over the years.

One time SIL #3 was talking enthusiastically about a one week summer course at OISE where the instructor stated from the outset that everyone passed the course merely by attending. BIL #2 responded that that was as it should be because of their maturity and marks weren’t important. SIL #3 also observed that many of the attendees were graduates of a private teacher’s college in Buffalo, NY. BIL #2 sneeringly replied that they likely needed the upgrading because the reason they went to Buffalo was because their entrance marks kept them from being accepted in Ontario teachers programs. I sardonically pointed out to BIL #2 that “You said that marks weren’t important, didn’t you?” The rest of the afternoon turned chilly for some reason.

Back then, being there for a one week summer audit course and their year of experience was enough to bump up a teacher two pay grades on the grid. It was a good thing for them and a lousy thing for tax payers.

At OISE, one could complete an M. Ed. doing a 6 week summer course with a skinny term paper, oops thesis.

So it didn’t take a lot to become and progress as a teacher. Today it seems that it takes even less. After all, you don’t even need 70% proficiency to teach math. That was barely a C not so long ago. Today all you need is to convincingly demonstrate wokeness.

      1. I once knew a primary school teacher who would text me to ask how to calculate 60% off of something at a sale because she couldn’t figure it out on her own. When I pointed out she was holding an $800 hand computer, she responded she couldn’t find the calculator app.

The entire public school education scam has long since needed burning down and salting the earth.

  11. Ontario has gone downhill since 1968 so ride that Hall-Dennis Report to its logical conclusion. It taught me naught to want to be a teacher.

    1. Ahem:

“Seven top B.C.’s First Nations chiefs and other Indigenous leaders recently sent the education minister a strong letter , obtained by Postmedia, spelling out how they are “alarmed” and “deeply disturbed” by the BCTF’s “targeted attack campaign” to cancel current provincewide testing of elementary students.”

  12. Because French-language instruction in our public schools is worse than useless, Anglophones lack the French skills that are required for even mid-level jobs in the Public Service of Canada.

I wait with bated breath for a judge to announce that it is unconstitutional to require public servants to speak French, because Anglophones “have gone through an education system in which they have suffered discrimination and disadvantage.”
