Gee, isn’t that a shame…
THIS MONTH we learned that Tesla, a $400 billion public company run by one of the richest people in the world, has done away with its media relations department—effectively formalizing an informal policy of ignoring reporters. Though we should all be grateful for the chance to hear less about Tesla, we should also recognize this for what it is: one more glaring data point showing that powerful people no longer think they need the mainstream press, especially critical and ethical outlets like the Washington Post.
There’s more
Because journalism, particularly at the highest level, is about raw power. It is about bringing important people to heel, on behalf of the public.
And
All I know is that there is only one way the press maintains its power in society: by metaphorically putting the heads of powerful people on pikes.
But it’s not working anymore and they know it.
That state of affairs, which has been taken for granted for decades, is evaporating.
They see themselves as “important” bullies and victims all at the same time. Read the whole thing.

“As journalists, we all view this as a horrifying assault on the public’s right to know, and on our own status as brave defenders of the public good. And that is all true, for what it’s worth.”
After fighting the reflex to vomit, I stopped reading at this point.
I got as far as “….critical and ethical outlets like the Washington Post”
I laughed at that part. I’ve been referring to them as “Pravda on the Potomac” for 30-some years.
Say, isn’t that owned by Jeff (“I treat my workers like royalty”) Bezos?
Bezos also owns Blue Origin, which is trying to become a competitor to SpaceX.
Blue Origin hasn’t done much lately, which might, in part, explain why Bezos is retiring as boss of Amazon. Musk is much further ahead than him.
Nemo, you beat me to the “…critical and ethical outlets like the Washington Post” joke. A knee-slapper it is, eh ?
Problem is nowadays, in this international Monty Pythonesque environment, one starts to laugh at what is initially perceived as farcical humour before realizing that the writer actually MEANT it – which generates twice as much laughter as before.
I made it to the last, most patronizing line; “…democracy dies in dumbness”.
Implying the media gatekeepers are the only arbiter of truth, knowledge and justice.
The statement was perfect for Twitter and unbelievably arrogant at the same time.
There was zero introspection in the article about the role of the media in their own demise. It is inconceivable to them that Trump was mostly right about fake news. They are blind to the fact that they are both the architects and participants in their own doom.
Canada is like Cuba. No adult is allowed to watch any program unless approved supplier of State Propaganda. Why I cancelled all TV programming about 12 years ago, The Feds sent the RCMP after anyone in Alberta that dared to cancel the Canadian approved suppliers of media. I bought a US Satellite and had US programming and the RCMP did not approve. They shut down the local supplier of US Dishes and programming just like in Cuba. They cancelled my choice so I have boycotted all Canadian Official msm ever since.
Try it believe me you will not miss their garbage programming.
Lots of people are doing the same. I never watch television news. The San Francisco link called “Kirby” yesterday ( from Robert I think) had some good comments about not watching the news to improve your overall disposition. One person with contacts in China mentioned that the Chinese never watch the news. They understand that it is all propaganda.
If anybody remembers that far back, Microsoft as a young company run by young Gates as an enterprise, did not know about public relations, they simply went about their business. Until the politicians discovered that Microsoft was making tons of money and they never got a cut.
The campaign, with the help of the mass media cartel, to damn Microsoft for all kinds of nefarious things was on.
As Gates learned really fast and followed his learning, the graft that politicians expected was on.
Gates created public relations office and started sprinkling coins on the politicians.
The campaign against Microsoft came to a sudden halt.
Things are cool ever since.
Of course the young punks of Face book, Twitter, Google have learned from that event.
And now is where we are.
Lev, that’s a fascinating perspective and insight. As “they” say, “Follow the money” and “The graft is green”
Canada is like Cuba. No adult is allowed to watch any program unless approved supplier of State Propaganda.
That’s one reason why Radio Marti was established:

Curious that a vompzny as big as Tesla woild not keep its Press departmdnt for spin if nothing else. The public may see these departments as useless, but I would have thought companies would like to keep them to keep up the pretense. Still given how quickly journalism is sinking, perhaps Tesla ( as is its tradition) is ahead of the pack.
why waste time and money supporting something like msm which gives you garbage all day everyday. Cancel Culture works both ways. Cancel the source of the Cancel Culture why is that so hard to figure out for people
L L . Tesla gets nothing but positive spin from the green freaks in the media. You don’t need to waste your own money when the spin is free.
vompzny? Is that Polish?
That’s fat fingers.
Yeah, a ‘journalist’ talking about ‘your’ right to know. That should suck a few to their side.
As is the experience, your right to know is limited to what the ‘journalist’ want you to know, according to his ideology. The ‘journalist’ will omit, add, rephrase, wrap in his own shit for you to consume.
Wonder if the ‘journalist’ knows that he/she has no credibility in the real world.
“News Media Credibility Rating Falls to a New Low”
https://morningconsult.com/2020/04/22/media-credibility-cable-news-poll/5
When you consider the fact that the ‘low opinion’ of the media is very bad. You should also understand that the opinion polls are done by the lying pukes themselves. Gawd only knows how low the real results are.
I read it until it started the usual, “It’s all Trump’s fault.” That alone explains why the MSM is going the way of the dodo bird.
In the main piece in the Columbia Journalism Review, the author refers to the “ethical” newspaper of the Washington Post. No it’s not. It’s NOT ethical AT ALL. The fact that these people continue forth with this LIE speaks volumes.
This is why politicians are classed doing double-speak meaning they are hypocrites and always do the opposite to what they are talking about.
This, they learned from the current mainstream media.
They failed to realize that the public turned away from this and are creaming them in elections. So, fake polls are from their much smaller group of die hards and are useless in prediction of elections.
Post, like the New York Times is a leader in propaganda and manipulative journalism. When they first came up with their slogan– Democracy Dies in Darkness — I actually laughed, as they are clearly part of the darkness. Ironic for sure, but I guess not too funny in the end.
BM reversed course on “Comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable” so fast I got whiplash.
Remember folks.
There is no such thing as bad publicity.
Starve the beast.
Satire?
MSM…?? who listens to or reads their gutter filth.??
Who pays for that crud.??
I do neither… And now they are whining..?? I could give a shit.
As I’ve noted in the past, cutting that CORD of $150.00/month for pure duplicated garbage programming and garbage propaganda was absolutely one of the best things we have done. Same with our Adult Kids. We all use an Nvidia Shield – watch what we want – pay for want we want. MSM + MS Programming can drop dead for all we care.
Add a VPN and you’re good to go.
Media Streaming platforms abound…. it costs me $63.50/Mo for 75mbs. I worked out a 5 yr deal as I hammered them on my long term fealty since AGT days.
Telus INTERNET only.
especially critical and ethical outlets like the Washington Post.
Ha, that’s a joke
Cry me a river.
So all the reporters who joined in, who offered to give blow jobs to Bill Clinton for life, who cried ‘RUSSIA’ for 4 straight years, who refused to talk about Hunter Biden, who covered up the Big Guy’s obvious dementia, who insisted Hillary’s breaking of federal record keeping laws was not a story, are now finding themselves on the outside.
They made themselves useless. They have not put anyone’s “head on a pike” for at least 60 years; unless that person had a R beside their name.
They covered for Harvey Weinstein until they were forced to stop. A world without people like this, will be very nice indeed.
Jessica Mulroney’s head went on a pike and she apologized. Unfortunate.
This clown writes about a rationale (standing up to the big guy) for supporting the legacy media that hasn’t existed for decades. He is a creature from an echo chamber bubble ( J. school poseurs) within the greater echo chamber bubble of the institutional left. He wouldn’t know objectivity if his life depended on it.
The TDS is strong in that one.
“Well documented scandals involving Donald Trump”.
You have to love how anonymous source became “Well Documented”.
Just like “All intelligence sources agree” and then these “Agencies” testify under oath to the exact opposite..Which these Presstitutes then omit coverage..
Trust is such a precious thing.
The Demented Demon Rats, our “Progressive Comrades” lost voter trust years ago,so using their Media Comrades they have spent the last decades trying to convince the voter, that all in political office are evil and corrupt..With the additional bonus lie of labelling every semi sane person a Right Wing Extremist.
Perhaps their shrieking hatred of Trump, was the fact he just told it ,like he saw it..And millions of Voters said “Amen”.
Fake Newz could never have spread without the media.
Every time they reacted to Trump’s mockery, they proved him to be speaking truth.
Fake Newz and oblivious to it.
There was zero introspection in the article about the role of the media in their own demise.
The heart of the problem.
“papers like the Post could offer the carrot of great exposure to those who needed it, but also, always, the stick of negative coverage to those who spurned them. ”
Says it all.
Something about Cry Me A River.
Hamilton Nolan worked for Gawker. The perverts who published dick pics and sex videos and got sued into bankruptcy for doing so. A reputable newspaper would have stayed far away from him and his former colleagues. Clearly the Washington Post condones such behaviour from their employees.
In Europe, they have a “Bourse and hygge” press…
