Back in the day when I ran for provincial and federal office a few times, the buzzword when dealing with aboriginals was “self-government”. Naturally, no one could define what that meant; you were just supposed to agree with it. Same goes today for “reconciliation”. If you can get to the end of the article without feeling physically ill, I congratulate you.
Littlechild said that while Carney has been focused on securing overseas investments, he’s ignoring the rights of Indigenous Peoples at home and sidelining their traditional economies by fast-tracking legislation that would allow for quicker project approvals and environmental reviews.
The “carrot” approach can be seen in how Carney’s cabinet is encouraging First Nations to back the Trans Mountain pipeline through a low-cost loan and a $2.5 million payment for willing investors that some are comparing to a bribe.

Within their “nations” they have all of the rights that they can afford themselves.
In Canada they have the same rights, or lack thereof, as everyone else.
Had to turn off my truck radio today after trying five different stations and every one of them was pushing the same “A day to listen” BS after *every single song*. Nope…not having it.
Glad to know I was not the only one.
The North American Indian has some of the lowest IQ scores in the world. They are an ethnicity of people with the highest levels of alcoholism and drug addiction in the world. Aside from the teepee, the travois and the papoose, they have contributed nothing to the betterment of mankind. Why is this celebrated? Why are these people so exalted? Aren’t the Canadian, (and American) people embarrassed?
My guess is because every Canadian Indian reserve is a communist laundromat for TPTB. And TPTB own the media, while the local Indigenous politburos own the reserves.
Now in my 80s, I grew up among Canadian “Indians” and count many of them among friends, relatives, teammates, students, customers and employers. Here is what “Truth and Reconciliation” should comprise:
* the truth is that “Indians” are no different from any other Canadians; equally smart and physically capable, as well as being descended from less sophisticated ancestors as we all are;
* also true, patronizing them has stunted their assimilation into today’s Canadian identity .. despite their smart phones and Air Mile points;
* and the ugly truth is that they have been propagandized to believe that the patronizing was justified and ultimately good for them;
* the reconciliation we other Canadians owe them is threefold, an immediate end to the racist “Indian Act”, an apology for the years of patronizing, and reparations paid to every adult status Indian for the dysfunction forced upon so many of them
by paternalistic governments;
* the reconciliation owed to other Canadians is that the pretense of special indigenous rights be repudiated, and that all young people of indigenous ancestry make a special effort to dispel negative stereotypes by becoming exemplary citizens.
Shh, stop making logical and humane comments.
Two out of three ain’t bad, but Canadian taxpayers have paid quite enough money already to the lying savages.
Between the rampant fetal alcohol syndrome and the undeniable truth that this demographic has a dysfunctionally low IQ, waving a magic wand and abolishing the Indian Act is just going to result in a mass transfer of people from reservations to jail. To turn this demographic into functional citizens, you’d have to deprogram them from decades of lies about their own ancestry and culture, instill into them the values, mores and habits of the dominant society, and find meaningful ways for them to work and support themselves.
In short, exactly what the British Empire already tried and it’s being excoriated for now.
The question of what to do with a conquered people is not a trivial one. Historically the only successful approach is to either extinguish their identity or extinguish them literally. Neither of those are options in the modern world.
Careful, you’re in the process of becoming a conquered people. I believe your PM lied to you about immigration.
Why didn’t Canadian citizens pressure their government to abolish the Indian Act? It hasn’t been just or fair to anyone. Do Canadian citizens get a voice in how their country is run?
Meanwhile, Canada is being parceled out and sold; none of you will benefit from this (except for certain well connected people).
One government planned to abolish the act and recognize Indians as equal citizens instead of wards of the crown, but the Indians had to give up their treaty rights in exchange. The Indians refused and no government since has tried to deal with it in as head-on a way.
You can’t cling to a paternalistic structure and then claim to be patronized by that same structure. You can’t be a Ward of the Crown and be a Canadian citizen. Indians have rejected the scrapping of the Indian Act in exchange for Canadian citizenship.
It all won’t matter in another generation anyway. When the Great Replacement hits its peak, Abdul, Parbindher and Khan will have zero tolerance for this stuff.
Yes, I agree and I will further add that I think the Chinese who are flooding western Canada with fentanyl, will treat the indigenous as a great source for organ donations. Do not forget that indigenous Canadians claim to have come over the land bridge from Asia all those centuries ago, so their DNA would be compatible with Asian DNA. I could be wrong.
Ain’t no Chinese gonna want an Indigenous river.
What traditional economies? They don’t produce anything or maintain anything given to them.
I noticed they didn’t pick up the garbage today, but couldn’t figure out why until I got to the post office.
There they had a notice on the door saying the Posties would be gone today. To their credit, here in Haldimand County, all it said was closed for “the federal holiday.”
Federal holiday? On a Wednesday? WTF?
And then I remembered it was fake-graves day, and I laughed because the Posties didn’t put that on the little sign.
My cynical piece of research for Reconciliation Day:
According to A.I., the cost to taxpayers of maintaining an average aboriginal family in a remote 1000 person fly-in community:
Total All-In Cost Per Family/Household: $124,000 to $236,000 per year
” … he’s ignoring the rights of Indigenous Peoples at home and sidelining their traditional economies …”
You’re kidding!!! You mean he’s outlawed casinos? Jailed all the smugglers! Slashed the $63 billion budget of Indigenous Services Canada and Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada!!!!
Wouldn’t a polite “Thanks, but F off!” letter be more appropriate?
Wilton Littlechiid whines about the residential school system. It’s the reason he was able to become a lawyer.
“When Wilton Littlechild was co-chairing the landmark Truth and Reconciliation Commission…”
“The Truth and Reconciliation Commission initially documented the deaths of 3,200 children…”
“Experts… say the actual number could be much higher.”
Please, please, PLEASE, Wilton… show us ONE body! Just one. Twelve million dollars (and zero excavations) later, you should be able to show us a skull, or a pelvic bone, or a femur of one of these thousands of victims of ‘colonial genocide’. And if you can’t, then STFU!
Some Canadians may think the natives aren’t too bright, but it’s pretty clear that the really stupid people in Canada are the ones who continue to believe this blatant nonsense.
Just want to say eff everyone who thinks todays people should be punished for some perceived slight 400 years ago.
Circus Carney’s focus on First Nations traditional economies is misplaced. If you want to get a sense of the context of frontier life in the North West Territories, below are links to 2 Sessional Papers of the Third Session of the Fourth Parliament (1880-81 Volumes 3 & 8).
Volume 3 has a few references to the inter-tribal warfare between Indian tribes manifested via horse stealing.

If you rummage through this stuff, you quickly see the real worldview back then was completely different that the worldview supported by Circus Carney. Back in the day, the Indians could not deal with the changing real world without significant help. The Indians wanted residential schools as they valued education for their kids. They also knew their lifestyle did not support kids going to school day in, day out, all day.
