I have only one suggestion for you, read the koran, hadiths and sira. Then tell me just who can possibly be a moderate. When reading the koran be aware that it is written in such a manner that there are abrogating verses meaning the latter supersede the former. If Mansur does not follow the dictates of the koran then he is an apostate, the penalty for which is death. If he does, then he is practicing taqiyya.

Inspiring your base is a necessary but not sufficient political tactic to win elections with a majority government. A strong leader also attracts those looking for such qualities in a politician aspiring to high office. Doug Ford did it. Jason Kenney did it. Brad Wall did it. Premier Hicks of New Brunswick did it. Brian Palliser of Manitoba did it.
Trying to win an election w/o inspiring your base has a less than stellar track record.
Before the Dairy Queen can inspire the base, he has to inspire his candidates. From private conversations with at least 3 candidates, he is failing to do that.
He leaves me with a distinct Joke Lark vibe.
He should be careful. What if by some miracle, he wins the majority vote? Dithering around like a wanker is NOT going to play well. I’d encourage folks to vote Trudeau so they can hurry up and get your referendum up and running and finally win your freedom. A Scheer govt will waste you another four years while you feck around wondering if this time it’ll be different.
Mind you, a vote for Maxime would force a Liberal-Green minority govt. That could work too at getting your referendum question on the ticket. And this time, the Feds would have bugger-all ammo to convince people not to leave Cana-duh. Conservatives zero in on Paris targets as ‘proof point’ for discrediting Liberal carbon tax: internal memo
To criticize Trudeau for failing to reduce emissions fast enough implies either that the Tories see the Paris targets as unattainable, or that they are ready to propose alternative policies that can outperform what the Liberal government has done.
Officials in Scheer’s office are tight-lipped about the plan, but all signs point to a policy that will focus on regulations, recycling, conservation and an international component — he alluded, in an earlier policy speech, to “doing Canada’s part in the fight against climate change by lowering global emissions.”
The policy will also address the question of whether Scheer still supports the Paris accord. Two years ago, during the very early days of his leadership and on the heels of United States President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the United Nations pact, he had voted in favour of a Liberal motion that reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to it.
Liberals have tried to make hay of the Conservative party’s silence on climate policy, for example, holding a media event this spring themed around Scheer’s “lack of plan.”

Bill C-262, a private member’s bill tabled by NDP MP Romeo Saganash in December 2015 that received government support last year, was passed without amendment by the Senate Aboriginal peoples committee on Tuesday. The bill requires the government to “take all measures necessary” to align Canadian laws with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), a document that affirms the rights of Indigenous peoples to self-determination and to be free of discrimination. UNDRIP also demands “free, prior and informed consent” for activity on Indigenous land, which Canadians worry could be interpreted as a veto over natural resource development.

We are moving forward with the creation of a government to manage our own affairs based on Inuit traditional law, culture, heritage, values and language. With the recognition of Aboriginal Rights in the Canadian Constitution in 1982, Canada now needs a mechanism to pool legislation together to truly make this country a land that supports its diversity and Indigenous Canadians. We need clarity on all sides, regular Canadians and its first peoples with the Canadian Government in the center. That mechanism is Bill C-262, at least it’s a start and its timing is good.

In the summer of 2015, Maxime Bernier was an (outwardly) happy CPC warrior. The People’s Party of Canada was not a thing. The hard-right wing of the party had nowhere to go – so it stayed put. Now, nearly one-fifth of decided Conservative voters say their second choice would be the PPC. Remember, the CPC needs to grow its base in order to re-take power. Scheer and company can ill afford to see Bernier – now leader of the PPC – strip away a single Conservative voter.
Of course, the backup only becomes essential if he or she can demonstrate they’re suitable for the top spot. You’ve got to like them, trust them, and think they’re competent and responsible enough to handle the job. Trudeau ultimately did this in a series of strong debate performances and bold policy pivots (remember the “run deficits and pay for infrastructure” idea?). Thus, while the party leaders jockey for first place in our hearts and minds this summer, they’d do well to remember they’re simultaneously auditioning for the all-important position of second place. Stealthy, below-the-radar campaigns may seem less sexy, but are just as effective once all the ballots are counted.

Scheer has been into politics since he was a kid. Into it like a dog that chases cars, it has no idea what it will do if it catches one. Scheer is chasing his boyhood dream, to be Prime Minister of Canada. Unfortunately, he has no particular purpose beyond that.
Stephen Harper is an instructive example. He had an ambition to change Canada to what he believed would be a better version. He tried to influence politicians with ideas but found he had to run for office himself, not something he was ever comfortable with. He was as good a PM as he was because he was trying to achieve something by being PM.
Pierre Trudeau is another instructive example. Unlike Harper he was entirely comfortable being the centre of attention, he was a vain man. But he, too, had a sense of purpose beyond getting the title of PM. He had a goal of changing Canada to a version he liked better, i.e. the screwed up mess we have now.
Scheer seems to be just trying to be PM. There is no sign that if he gets that he will do anything but be blown back and forth and around by pollsters and consultants and the media party just as PM Castreau is.
When your political philosophy becomes ‘vote for me because I am smarter than the other guy’ the inevitable result is another guy who trumps you. The CPC problem predates Scheer for sure. IMHO Scheer is desperately appealing to center left to attract votes that give him a majority government.
Totally agree with you that the CPC has a significant proportion of their leadership directed by ‘red Tories’. They gain influence by the lack of clear philosophical direction and conviction. They were the reason why Reform was started. The ‘red Tory’ element of the party mostly resides in eastern Canada. AT the point that Western Canadians finally accept that there is no place for them in Canada the leader of that divide must be from the Prairies and have a unassailable conviction. Bernier will not lead a resurrected conservative movement in a united Canada. He symbolizes the divide in this country. He actually verbalizes national issues which do not get addressed in federal campaigns. I highly doubt he will get a platform unless he is used by the left as a lighting rod of how ‘fascist’ the right is. The typical BS.
Harper had problems with them from day one, because to create the CPC concessions had to be made to the old PC gang from eastern Canada.
Everything has been tried. Parson Manning and his idiotic “The West Wants IN” and his protégé Harper the bed pisser, who had a big majority and stood there and pissed himself, instead of taking up the war axe and decimating 75 years of embedded Liberal programs and bureaucracy.
He tinkered and cajoled. When he should have laid waste to every Liberal program and entitlement. Useless, a real symbol of the kid that won the spelling bee and stood there and pissed his pants on the national stage.
His other big mistake was not bringing on someone to replace him, that is why he lost. He should never have run as leader in the last election. He should have had a strong young conservative step up and then supported him.
It went PC then Reform/PC then CPC and now it is back to PC. Like I keep saying 40 years wasted and we are in a worse mess than when we started with another Fucked UP Trudeau Dictator.
It was the Provinces that created Ottawa. The Provinces will have to fix the mess. To fix the mess, just like when you have a ramshackle condemned house. You destroy the shell, rebuild the foundation and then build a new house.

PM Bernier will not change the Quebecois run federal civil service, Bernier cannot change Canada’s fundamental policies, some even enshrined in Trudeau’s charter, that have guided Canada since Lester Pearson’s tenure.
Judge-made law is just one example of the tools our federal civil service has used to expand the reach of government beyond anything we had in earlier times.

Bill C69 would ban tankers on B.C.’s coast. Meanwhile in Atlantic Canada there are over 10 tanker visits PER DAY bringing in 80 million tonnes of product.
The largest tanker spill in Canadian history occurred off the coast of Nova Scotia.
Quebec City and Montreal account for 90% of all oil products delivered to the Province of Quebec including 25 million tonnes of crude oil.
That’s a worldwide phenomenon, and it boils-down to minimising transportation costs. Without a pipeline to deliver western oil east (thanks, T2 (-_-)), it’s cheaper to sell Alberta oil locally ( – or would be if there was a way to get it to market; gee, wouldn’t Keystone be nice? Thanks, Obama (-_-)) and buy oil locally in the east. Most of it burned in the Maritimes is transshipped through Bermuda and ends-up at the Irving refinery in Saint John, but it’s still (a lot) cheaper to move oil by ship, so the tankers go up the St Lawrence and to wherever the oil is needed.
A big problem (also worldwide) is the nature of tankering oil. It’s a race-to-the-bottom, and carriers will employ every dodge to lower their costs; if you’re importing millions of tons, a fraction-of-a-cent per barrel saved on shipping fees adds-up. Hence, the flags of convenience and their near-universal application to merchant ships (in general) and tankers (in particular). All the tankers carrying oil from Alaska to Seattle are registered in the U.S., usually homeported in Wilmington, Delaware, but they have to be – it’s almost-universal shipping law that if you’re travelling between two ports in the same country (in this case Valdez, Alaska to Seattle, Washington), your vessel must be registered in that country. Canada has the same law. A vessel is considered to be sovereign territory of the State in which it’s registered, and our (and U.S., U.K. and others’) vessels have correspondingly rigid condition / safety equipment / crewing / Master’s-certification regulations, and are inspected often by marine experts who can (and regularly do) pull their licenses until deficiencies are corrected. As an example, the RCN’s new oiler, MV Asterix, was registered in Liberia – it’s now registered in Canada, homeported in Quebec City.
But tankers coming to eastern Canada make one stop at a Canadian port, so they can be registered anywhere. The Arrow, which provided us that monster oil spill in the Strait of Canso, was also registered in Liberia. Flag-of-convenience States have much easier (and cheaper) regulatory requirements, and it’s seen as an easy way for countries to make money – some flag-of-convenience States are landlocked, and it’s normal for a vessel to have never visited its homeport. Arrow as an example; only one of its officers (Captain, First Mate etc) had a watchkeeping certificate – and it was expired.

I seem to recall last time around everyone would beat Trump, right up until they had to run against him. How well will all these unknowns fare once they become known and get a magical nickname. “Sleepy” Joe Biden is just a placeholder because it sounds like creepy. Remember how popular Elizabeth Warren was? That was before she was nicknamed Fauxcahontas and Liawatha. Polls showed Michael Avenatti was the great Democrat hope and scored quite well, before he was considered a “Creepy Porn Lawyer”. Anyone can be popular until they have to actually run against someone. The key to Obamas popularity was that nobody ever ran against him, but Trump is not a McCain or Romney.
As for the only 40% figure, 40% of Americans are Democrats and will never give Trump credit for anything good because of “tribal loyalty”. You have another 23% that are not describing their finances as excellent, and then there are those (especially among Republicans) that don’t believe the government can be responsible for a good economy, and can only do things to hinder it.

Inspiring your base is a necessary but not sufficient political tactic to win elections with a majority government. A strong leader also attracts those looking for such qualities in a politician aspiring to high office. Doug Ford did it. Jason Kenney did it. Brad Wall did it. Premier Hicks of New Brunswick did it. Brian Palliser of Manitoba did it.
Trying to win an election w/o inspiring your base has a less than stellar track record.
Before the Dairy Queen can inspire the base, he has to inspire his candidates. From private conversations with at least 3 candidates, he is failing to do that.
He leaves me with a distinct Joke Lark vibe.
He should be careful. What if by some miracle, he wins the majority vote? Dithering around like a wanker is NOT going to play well. I’d encourage folks to vote Trudeau so they can hurry up and get your referendum up and running and finally win your freedom. A Scheer govt will waste you another four years while you feck around wondering if this time it’ll be different.
Mind you, a vote for Maxime would force a Liberal-Green minority govt. That could work too at getting your referendum question on the ticket. And this time, the Feds would have bugger-all ammo to convince people not to leave Cana-duh. It would be funny to watch the Feds trying to convince Alberta not to leave, by playing Canadian history videos on CBC. Sad. Conservatives zero in on Paris targets as ‘proof point’ for discrediting Liberal carbon tax: internal memo
To criticize Trudeau for failing to reduce emissions fast enough implies either that the Tories see the Paris targets as unattainable, or that they are ready to propose alternative policies that can outperform what the Liberal government has done.
Officials in Scheer’s office are tight-lipped about the plan, but all signs point to a policy that will focus on regulations, recycling, conservation and an international component — he alluded, in an earlier policy speech, to “doing Canada’s part in the fight against climate change by lowering global emissions.”
The policy will also address the question of whether Scheer still supports the Paris accord. Two years ago, during the very early days of his leadership and on the heels of United States President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the United Nations pact, he had voted in favour of a Liberal motion that reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to it.
Liberals have tried to make hay of the Conservative party’s silence on climate policy, for example, holding a media event this spring themed around Scheer’s “lack of plan.”

You’ve got to like them, trust them, and think they’re competent and responsible enough to handle the job. Trudeau ultimately did this in a series of strong debate performances and bold policy pivots (remember the “run deficits and pay for infrastructure” idea?). Thus, while the party leaders jockey for first place in our hearts and minds this summer, they’d do well to remember they’re simultaneously auditioning for the all-important position of second place. Stealthy, below-the-radar campaigns may seem less sexy, but are just as effective once all the ballots are counted.

Scheer has been into politics since he was a kid. Into it like a dog that chases cars, it has no idea what it will do if it catches one. Scheer is chasing his boyhood dream, to be Prime Minister of Canada. Unfortunately, he has no particular purpose beyond that.
Stephen Harper is an instructive example. He had an ambition to change Canada to what he believed would be a better version. He tried to influence politicians with ideas but found he had to run for office himself, not something he was ever comfortable with. He was as good a PM as he was because he was trying to achieve something by being PM.
Pierre Trudeau is another instructive example. Unlike Harper he was entirely comfortable being the centre of attention, he was a vain man. But he, too, had a sense of purpose beyond getting the title of PM. He had a goal of changing Canada to a version he liked better, i.e. the screwed up mess we have now.
Scheer seems to be just trying to be PM. There is no sign that if he gets that he will do anything but be blown back and forth and around by pollsters and consultants and the media party just as PM Castreau is.
When your political philosophy becomes ‘vote for me because I am smarter than the other guy’ the inevitable result is another guy who trumps you. The CPC problem predates Scheer for sure. IMHO Scheer is desperately appealing to center left to attract votes that give him a majority government.
Totally agree with you that the CPC has a significant proportion of their leadership directed by ‘red Tories’. They gain influence by the lack of clear philosophical direction and conviction. They were the reason why Reform was started. The ‘red Tory’ element of the party mostly resides in eastern Canada. AT the point that Western Canadians finally accept that there is no place for them in Canada the leader of that divide must be from the Prairies and have a unassailable conviction. Bernier will not lead a resurrected conservative movement in a united Canada. He symbolizes the divide in this country. He actually verbalizes national issues which do not get addressed in federal campaigns. I highly doubt he will get a platform unless he is used by the left as a lighting rod of how ‘fascist’ the right is. The typical BS.

Most of it burned in the Maritimes is transshipped through Bermuda and ends-up at the Irving refinery in Saint John, but it’s still (a lot) cheaper to move oil by ship, so the tankers go up the St Lawrence and to wherever the oil is needed.
A big problem (also worldwide) is the nature of tankering oil. It’s a race-to-the-bottom, and carriers will employ every dodge to lower their costs; if you’re importing millions of tons, a fraction-of-a-cent per barrel saved on shipping fees adds-up. Hence, the flags of convenience and their near-universal application to merchant ships (in general) and tankers (in particular). All the tankers carrying oil from Alaska to Seattle are registered in the U.S., usually homeported in Wilmington, Delaware, but they have to be – it’s almost-universal shipping law that if you’re travelling between two ports in the same country (in this case Valdez, Alaska to Seattle, Washington), your vessel must be registered in that country. Canada has the same law. A vessel is considered to be sovereign territory of the State in which it’s registered, and our (and U.S., U.K. and others’) vessels have correspondingly rigid condition / safety equipment / crewing / Master’s-certification regulations, and are inspected often by marine experts who can (and regularly do) pull their licenses until deficiencies are corrected. As an example, the RCN’s new oiler, MV Asterix, was registered in Liberia – it’s now registered in Canada, homeported in Quebec City.
But tankers coming to eastern Canada make one stop at a Canadian port, so they can be registered anywhere. The Arrow, which provided us that monster oil spill in the Strait of Canso, was also registered in Liberia. Flag-of-convenience States have much easier (and cheaper) regulatory requirements, and it’s seen as an easy way for countries to make money – some flag-of-convenience States are landlocked, and it’s normal for a vessel to have never visited its homeport. Arrow as an example; only one of its officers (Captain, First Mate etc) had a watchkeeping certificate – and it was expired.
Canadian registered merchant ship? You’re making this up. We had a Liberal prime minister who owned dozens of ships and they were registered overseas.
Nope. Paul Martin was raked over the coals for registering his ships offshore, but so long as they don’t go Canadian port-to-Canadian port, they don’t have to be registered in Canada; and why should he pay more? All the Atlantic ferries that run from North Sydney to Port aux Basques are registered in St John’s.
Actually, over 40% of Quebec’s crude is supplied by western produced oil. Most of it by Alberta.

I seem to recall last time around everyone would beat Trump, right up until they had to run against him. How well will all these unknowns fare once they become known and get a magical nickname. “Sleepy” Joe Biden is just a placeholder because it sounds like creepy. Remember how popular Elizabeth Warren was? That was before she was nicknamed Fauxcahontas and Liawatha. Polls showed Michael Avenatti was the great Democrat hope and scored quite well, before he was considered a “Creepy Porn Lawyer”. Anyone can be popular until they have to actually run against someone. The key to Obamas popularity was that nobody ever ran against him, but Trump is not a McCain or Romney.
As for the only 40% figure, 40% of Americans are Democrats and will never give Trump credit for anything good because of “tribal loyalty”. You have another 23% that are not describing their finances as excellent, and then there are those (especially among Republicans) that don’t believe the government can be responsible for a good economy, and can only do things to hinder it.
At about this time in his presidency Ronald Reagan was not looking too popular either, yet Mondale only managed to win his home state of Minnesota by 3761 votes.
Given current polling numbers and policies, I would wager that Trump has a better chance of being reelected than Canada has of surviving intact.
Agree 100%. Canada is utterly broken. Start offshoring your savings. Not to avoid legitimate taxes, but to avoid the economic collapse of Canada. Actually I think a Republic of Athabasca-Columbia would be a fine state, beautiful, and blessed with abundant resources. But Visas required for ANY Canadians to enter. Two men shot on west end TTC bus

One man is fighting for his life and another has been stabilized in the wake of a double shooting on a TTC bus in Etobicoke Saturday morning.
Toronto Police were called to Bloor St. W. and Islington Ave. around 4:20 a.m.
“When police and EMS arrived they found two men on the bus shot in the torso,” police spokesman Katrina Arrogante said Saturday. “One is now stable and one is still in life-threatening condition.”
Four suspects were seen fleeing the area northbound on Islington.
But no suspect descriptions were immediately released.

Yes a Habs fan for sure. Born and bred in Montreal but left in the late 70s. Used to go to many hockey games at the old Forum. I think Dryden was one of the best goaltenders ever. The many Stanley Cup Victories were a blast!
