    1. I think we have been living that in Alberta and Saskatchewan since the NEP, sport. It never really ended, despite “some people did something”.

      I hope Kenny is investigating the Alaskan’s take on harnessing the oil and gas industry in western Canada, through a rail and pipeline corridor to Valdez Alaska. Vancouver would be bypassed and isolated as the shipping distances to Asia are several days shorter that even US west coast ports.

      It would only take a small shift to move the Alaska Hwy out of NE BC and engage the NWT and Yukon on the re-positioning of that route to their territory and then on to Valdez, as it currently exists. The Highway is already in place, the pipeline (WW2 vintage) is just off the road in most places so, building a railway plus pipelines would not be too expensive or “disturb” the environment much more than the existing Hwy corridor already does.

  6. Had to watch Manning’s sad effort to explain the West once more on CTV. I was stunned when Reform supposedly voted 95% to move into eastern Canada. Stunned because most of the Reformers I knew did not support that. Manning wanted it and got it. As a result where do we sit 30 years later?

    Many Reformers wanted to organize provincially and even at the municipal level. Western Canada could have become a single power structure within Canada. Perhaps this was naive considering political realities but with a strong philosophical framework there was a chance. Instead the Reform effort died in Ottawa and we are left with a single hope that Kenney can actually get true representation in this country. The issue will be how far is he willing to go to get it. He has to be prepared to threaten everything held dear by eastern Canadians who have raped the West for hundreds of years.

    Progressive forces will inevitably begin their effort to infiltrate the UCP of Alberta to neuter whatever effort is made. That combined with a corrupt media and a federal government that cannot operate without Western money will likely defeat Kenney or corrupt his intent to the point of irrelevance. IMHO Kenney is likely the last effort at a negotiated reconciliation with the West. The fiscal collapse of Canada is almost certain no matter what government is in power. If a ‘black swan’ event speeds up this eventuality then Kenney makes no difference. The social contract between the people and government is disintegrating. 46% of the population is $200 away from bankruptcy?

But the Edmonton Gov. is supposed to direct the resources and give direction to the Prosecutors and the Police. And paper crimes such as gun law compliance can be placed a way down the list. Stop chasing paper criminals and hammer the real crimes like rural violence by dope heads and gangsters.
      And quit prosecuting honest folk for defending themselves. Those are all choices made by the Provincial AG and direction he wants enforced.
      Start by ending the RCMP contract, and boosting the Alberta Sheriff’s Dept. The Alberta Sheriff’s are Albertan’s the RCMP are generally always from back east and indoctrinated paramilitaries to boot.

Stelmach then came in and immediately signed the discount deal with Ottawa. The RCMP answer to their Ottawa Masters not Edmonton. Capital Power is a wholly owned subsidiary (although Wikipedia claims it is independent, at least nominally) of Epcor, which in turn is wholly owned by the City of Edmonton. Capital Power owns, operates, and builds power generation, including coal, natural gas, and wind. So profits from Alberta power bills went to financing this activity., the the collusion of municipal politicians and theirs followers. Nice work.
