At his best estimate, we won’t meet the Paris targets, meaning a higher price on carbon. Since most journalists won’t do the math, don’t like math, I did it.

Subscribe to Netflix? Are you kidding?
They hired Susan Rice for their Board.
They are also producing a series by Barry Soetoro and his Mooch. They support Amy Schumer and any number of Liberal scumbags.
Sorry, go ahead and Tax Netflix, there are plenty of alternatives that one can skirt the direct payment and use alternate means.
And yes, Brian and PMSH are right, never trust a Liberal, “Do as I say, not as I do” is their motto!
I think it’s the wrong link.
The Libs are making a wild claim that is going completely unchallenged. In six years, market forces have pushed gas prices up by $.35/liter. The carbon taxes have added $.05-07/liter.
If, as the Libranos claim, the carbon tax will cause a 90 million tonne net reduction in CO2, then the market price increase must get credit for a 450 million tonne impact. Or, using their terms, market derived price increases will account for the equivalent of 100 million cars being taken off Canadian roads.
There’s simply no evidence that the carbon tax is, or can be, responsible for a Tectonic scale shift in Canadian energy habits, unless we are talking about carbon taxes on the scale of a $1-2/liter (or more) equivalent.
But, don’t think for a minute Justin and friends don’t have very wet dreams about exactly that.
Equivalent of removing 20 million cars of the road.
Hmmm how many cars are on the road in Canada?
Must be from other uses of carbon like natural gas which is used by Canadians to heat our homes to survive our winters.
Can we reduce our useage of this necessity?
So where is the actual reduction?
Curt, these dumb asses think you can import 100’s of thousands of people to the country and still cut fuel use. OK. WITH FEELING ONCE MORE. CANADIANS ARE STUPID.
Didn’t Trudeau say the Carbon will tax itself?
Vote him out.
HE is wrong.
This country has only 2 seasons, Winter and July.
HE will kill us with policies that he did not campaign on.
This is evil.
Out, baby, out,
Over and out.!
Of course the numbers don’t add up. $50/tonne has been known for at least four decades to be inadequate when the Rae government in Ontario first studied the issue. The demand for gasoline is essentially inflexible. In Ontario’s history over the past 50 years, there have been four times in which CO2 emissions have declined on a year over year basis: 1972-3, 1979-80, 1985-6, and 1992-3. Three of those, 1972, 1979, and 1992, were the time of severe economic recessions. Industrial activity was down sharply during all of those times. Only one, 1985, saw both strong economic growth in the province and a decline of emissions. That was the time in which Ontario brought four nuclear power reactors on line, displacing coal-fired emissions from Nanticoke, Lambton and Aticokan.
The conclusion based on actual historical performance over the past century is obvious. There are two ways to reduce emissions: more nuclear power or an economic recession. Since the Trudeau government is no particular friend of nuclear power, one can only conclude their intention is to trigger enough recession to meet their targets.
Gas is selling for $6.14 /gallon in this area. Too bad Canadians are so dumb that they allowed the metric system to cloud their minds when it comes to math.
And I am complaining about US$2.65 per Gallon here in Minnesota?
I would hope not, as I did not complain about the 2.44 a gallon in Florida this winter.
FIrst of all, carbon dioxide and carbon are two entirely different things. It’s a carbon dioxide tax and there is no hard evidence that it is even a bad thing unless you are trying to breathe it. On the contrary, it is necessary for all life on Earth. This is all just another way to tax the population. Another form of GST. I hope the socialists and greenies enjoy walking to work and freezing in the winter. Food prices are going to be pretty high by the time this is all over too. Venezuala, here we come.
You are correct. yet the terminally stupid in Canada are unable to grasp that truth.
Crush an economy, reduce emissions, along with prosperity and liberty of course. Such genius from our boy blunder.
Remember, the pipeline holdup, which he and his cronies caused, along with killing Canada East as “uneconomical,” is behind high gas prices. Not carbon taxes, not his closed for business sign, our paucity of refining capacity.
Not his inability to think conceptually or contextually. His benefit cost analysis (no data, but we can’t afford not to), is sunny ways.
I understand NK has quite low emissions, especially their per capita contributions.
As their aggrandize designs inevitably fail, they double down on their transactions of decline.
No worries, though, they get lots of new revenues to buy off constituencies, along with more power to rule over us, picking fights with church groups and doctors who have the temerity to dare to pay their spouse dividends. Egad, China would never allow that.
His version of Chinese leadership, though, is to not get things done.
That makes retention of power much easier, why take a risk, the cabin boy refrains along with his head up their Butts crew.
The most hardened mafioso would be aghast at their money laundering and alibis.
But we have let them; that must stop or Canada is kaput imho.
I agree. We must all make better choices.
Starting with the next election.
