  1. Food is at or near the top of long supply chains and as a result inflation and stupid taxes compound themselves into staggering food costs for restaurants which have to be marked up and passed on.

    Canadians can’t afford them anymore.

Same for travel. All the BS from the Elbows Up crowd is just that, BS. We don’t go to the US because we can’t afford it, except of course for The Elbows Up nuts.

  2. Find a small downtrend in the first third of a year.
Extend it for two years assuming that absolutely nothing changes.
    Claim the world is ending.

    1. Look again at the timeline.
Then dare to look at unemployment numbers, foreign investment numbers and about 20 other trends – some of which are 10.5 fcking years old.

      1. Yes, the timeline tells me just how evil and destructive COVID was to Western economies. Fauxci and his henchmen should be sitting in a cold concrete prison cell on a remote prison island … if allowed to live.

    2. Blame StatsCanada for being late in putting the data out, taking nearly 2 years to put out the data.

And the data is suspect anyway, since it shows 75,407 employers, and 29, 762 non-employers./indererminate, which is obviously higher than the numbers that Dalhousie is using for 2025.

      1. My point was that printing a graph with “projections” is meaningless unless you lay out clearly all the assumptions that are being made, and their justifications.
I would have thought that people on here would have been familiar with this method of misleading a general readership since it is the same technique that the global warming community has used repeatedly to justify their claims of need for taxes, banning of the oil industry and a return to the stone ages.

  3. Seeing what the prices are like in grocery stores, the piling on of additional taxes, the mind deadening thunk every time I hear the phrase “sustainable” … I actually think the Dalhousie graph above is optimistic and I’m curious as to what it will look like after the US decides the free trade agreement with Canada isn’t worth having.

    Then… then it will suck

  4. Just about every brick and mortar business in my city is a restaurant. The down town core is basically a food court. We can’t have an economy consisting of everyone feeding everyone else lunch. Something was going to give.

8.7 percent of US population work in food services.
In 1960 it was 1.5 to 2 percent according to google.

  5. Fast food restaurants are increasing – about 22,000 now – by 2.5% annually.

Shitty food for oblivious people to eat while the Shithole trend continues.

  6. it is entirely plausible and personally l think applies here, that restaurants ride on a cushion of surplus funds that allow us to enjoy the costlier option of foisting the time and effort of meal preparation onto someone else, capped off the the great convenience of having a multitude of choice and purchasing only the exact amount of foodstuffs to satisfy the moment, capped off once again by walking away from the dirty dishes.
it cannot continue regularly when money is tight, compounded by increased cost of food to the restaurant, passed on the the customer.
thus there WILL be a paring back of functioning restaurants who survive somehow and meet the lesser demand.
rinse and repeat, and while you’re at it Canaduh, keep voting Liberal. including all you food service personnel drenched in propaganda and thereby voting FOR your own demise.

  7. L – The Liberal government under Trudeau/Carney “Net Zero” Climate Cult policies produced a Net Zero growth economy for 11 years. How much of every budget deficit was due to a money laundering operation? It was preceded by a propaganda of fear campaign. The Panic-demic was the largest in history with the largest money laundering of public money. An estimated up to a trillion dollars of investment in economic/wealth growth was driven out. The prosperity deficit stalks the pantries, the food banks, the bank accounts and drug and alcohol addicted; the deliberately impoverished citizenry.

So Western nations, whose economies had already been weakened by the de-industrialization “ that Climate” policies had caused. Their economies were damaged the most by e.i, Canada doubling the National Debt under panicdemic. This seeded massive inflation and destruction of: small and medium sized businesses, the middle-class and impoverishment of the working class see since the Great Depression. The casualties continue to mount as many of the wounded, die years from the wounds going septic, due to an unrelenting inflation/unemployment cycle.

Those, who can cook or live with someone, who does that well. They find they can eat well and healthier by preparing meals from unprocessed ingredients themselves. High schools and Universities used to teach Home Economics; but that was cut; as women were pushed out of the high status of mothers bearing and raising the next generation of children. Following them into the workplace was the propaganda war brainwashing them into believing highly processed, industrialized, low nutrient food was healthier than farm or garden to plate food.

From this scam came the epidemic of chronic diseases that plague and bankrupt via socialized medicine. The most profound Trump administration appointment has been Robert Kennedy jr. , who as head of Health and Human Services has turned the food pyramid upside down. The rebuilding of the West starts in the battle over breakfast, lunch and supper.

Eating out increased due to the growing wealth post war 2; that industrialization spread to the working and now much larger Middle-Class. It’s a long way back and that requires the Western populations rising up to shoulder the responsibilities of a self-governing people. To be continued.

  8. Covid restrictions taught us to do take-out, even from fine establishments.
Restaurants lost booze sales with high mark-up.
    The rest is history.
