  4. So we’ve reached the point where CO2 is simultaneously integral to Manitoba’s largest industry – agriculture and a pollutant that needs to be taxed.
    And this is to be done in a way that costs hundreds of millions of dollars, while having no measurable effect on temperature or well-being.
    Between this and our dancing prime minister, I’ll be surprised if we don’t have a Ministry of Astrology next year.

  9. That’s what flies on the pole in my yard. I didn’t like the corporate logo maple leaf flag as a 9 year old when it came out in ’65 and like it even less today. The LEAST they could have done was use the natural leaf that adorns thousands of tombstones in military cemeteries around the world, and made the bars blue since they are supposed to represent the oceans, but legend has it Pearson was totally against allowing a Tory colour on the flag, and simplified graphic design was becoming all the rage in the mid 60s so that was what fashion demanded.

Think of all the tax revenue on that pollution that’s literally going down the drain in Quebec City, Montreal, Vancouver, Victoria, etc. – all bastions of Liberal values – directly into natural waterways.   23. I was born in England, and when Canada got independence I, like most other people was a bit disappointed by the choice of flag. Pretty much every other country had managed to keep the Union Jack somewhere on their flag – even Hawaii!
    But, their country, their choice we were told, and we sort of agreed, but thought it a bit “off” anyway.
    Glad to see that some people still like the old flag, and ate not entirely overjoyed by the maple leaf.

  30. “Independence” was actually in several stages culminating in the 1982 replacement of the British North America Act in ’82, but the flag thing was almost 20 years before that. The political motivation was actually from the desire of the Liberal Party to placate Quebec, which required airbrushing out as many British symbols as possible from national institutions. The flag in ’65, forces unification in ’68, getting rid of the “Royal” from in front of the names of the services, etc. Trudeau, around about 1970, tried to change the name of the RCMP as well to get rid of that “Royal”, but the public outcry told him it would be a bridge too far and it was dropped.

  38. It was the Liberal Party that changed the flag of Canada from the Red Ensign to the Maple Leaf flag. The Liberals changed the flag without consent from Canadians, the Liberal way. Commie Lester Pearson and the LIberals knew that allowing Canadians a voice in the final decision to change the flag would end in failure, even in Quebec, so the LIberals concocted a scheme designed to distract Canadians (a cynical meaningless draw the flag contest) and in the end they simply imposed the Liberal Party logo as the flag. Lester Pearson made the absurd statement that allowing Canadians a referendum on whether to change the flag would be, “too divisive”, as idiotic a statement as there ever was. Pearson knew his history destroying flag change would have been rejected by Canadians, if they had been allowed a voice. Canadians protested the Liberal Party extremism right across the country, they were ignored. Canadians were even blocked from protesting the “official flag changing ceremony” on a rainy Parliament Hill day. Canadians didn’t make the decision to change the Canadian flag, the Liberal Party did. One can see a path from that autocratic unnecessary act of political vandalism to the more political extremes the Liberals would inflict upon Canada later on and right up to the moment 38% of the population thought it was good idea to vote for a Liberal Party celebrity lunkhead.

  40. The sad thing in all this is Catherine/Barbie was touted as one of the brightest lights in the Liberal stable. Judging from her performance and utterances she’s certainly a fit with her boss and that should be a concern.
    When a minister of the environment claims to be “Minister in charge of the weather” we may have a problem,
    she doesn’t seem to know enough to realize her scope. That’s a full on red flag right there.

    Besides, mocking politicians has been a public sport for centuries. Why should that change simply because you don’t like being on the receiving end?

    At this point the only sane alternative is the Manitoba Party.

Still I observed her on CBC describing carbon taxation legislation and mentioning “price on polution” three times in a short opening statement. The reporter simply sat there and said nothing to correct her, so who really is the dumber of the two here?
