    To be honest, though, I didn’t think that Trump had much of a chance when he started. Many other people from similar backgrounds (e. g., Ross Perot) ran for political background before he did and failed. However, after he started winning some of the early primaries, I reconsidered my opinion, particularly since what he said actually made sense.

  27. I love it..kudos to mid American! I wish we had the strength in Canada to do the same and get rid of our airhead of a PM. I am in Mexico and when I went to class after the election the people there were in mourning. San Miguel de Allende is full of Democrats on pensions from academia and the public sector totally divorced from the reality of struggling Americans. And of course there are the well off Texans. I was gloating in class but not too obviously when I listened to them bemoaning the fact that Trump was elected. Don’t watch the following video if you have a weak stomach.   30. A sobering thought to Trump’s election is the anticipation of the virulent backlash of anti-Americanism about to engulf Canadian air waves and print media. This virus is only kept in check when someone like Obama is in the White House; if it is a Republican, it is respectable, almost mandatory for our chattering class to become engaged.
    This coming dose will make Carolyn Parrish sound fair-minded and G W Bush appear as a respected statesman by comparison. Egged on by the CBC we can expect this for the next 4 years at least. Already last night they dragged out LLoyd Axworthy, of all people to complain about everything Trump might do before he even announced a cabinet. Their position is How dare the American people elect someone opposed to the policies Liberals have concocted. It is inevitable and it won’t be pretty.

  33. I certainly wouldn’t want to be conservative or libertarian in any progressive dominated fields right now. Academics, journalists, bureaucrats etc. were already nasty to everyone who disagreed with progressive politics and cultural. Now, they’ll be out for blood (metaphorically). The only thing they can do to the mass of nonprogressives in society is to continue to insult them but I doubt this will satisfy their need for vengeance for being so thoroughly and publicly humiliated. I predict a full McCarthyite investigation by progressives to root out any remaining nonprogressive coworkers. Rather than getting out of their intellectual bubble, liberals will fortify it with steel and posts heavily armed guards at the gates. Progressives aren’t introspective or forgiving personality types. They don’t suffer defeat gracefully.

Flipping through channels just now saw Ont’s Haridan in chief screeching about inclusive society for women etc, and how Donald Trump was so dangerous for Ont etc. Her policies have driven Ont to the edge of bankruptcy and established her firmly as the worst Ont Premier ever. Still she criticizes a foreign country for electing someone she doesn’t like.
    Note how the left can spit out “Donald Trump” in one word, sort of like with “Stephen Harper”. She never mentioned President-elect Trump or Mr. Trump just the one vindictive word. Get ready for much more of the same.

  38. Trump will probably have Kelly Anne Conway be her chief of staff. He’ll probably have a openly gay man or woman in his cabinet and Herman Caine, a black man will likely play a role too. But he’ll still be a racist, sexist, bigot, homophobe because those words mean “disagree with liberals”.

  39. No, I don’t think progressives are Nazis. Spoiled children, self-righteous, culturally insular, vindictive, delusions of grandeur/superiority and snobs at their worst. Personally, I think class snobbery and ignorance about their own class priviledge is their worst traits and it is the one that is biting them in the ass right now. But, progressives and liberals at their best are an essential part of society. They just need to remember to curb their excesses and check their ego. Sometimes they need to be reminded that they’re not the nobility and “uneducated” people aren’t their peasants.
    As for unions, I do have a bias against public service unions since they have a monopoly and the negotiators (govt) are not the ones who pay the wages (taxpayers). Therefore there has been no incentive for politicians to control wages and benefits. The pension and benefits bill for retirees is going to be a nightmare in the disturbingly near future. I have no problem with private sector unions but I also support Right to Work policies. Make both unions and private company employees competing for workers support. Im my experience, union workers, even militant union workers, vote more for self interest than in the union’s interests.

    Those who answered your questions above are the minority. The majority thinks “any of the above is OK because my life will still be good, so it doesn’t matter if I vote.” That is the hardest group to get to turn out.

    Clinton did not win the popular vote (which is irrelevant in the US election anyway as almost half the population is in New York, California and Illinois -democrat strongholds). The final tally is 62.9M votes for Trump and 306 EC votes vs Clinton 62.2M votes and 232 EC votes.
    Whine all you like, the progressive movement is done, not only in he US, but Britain and Europe also. Trudeau will get un-elected next election as the economy crashes around his silly carbon taxes.
    Good riddance to people like you, the liberals and progressives, now maybe real stuff get’s done that improves people lives.

  43. I can’t find a website that shows Trump leading the popular vote. Mind you it’s hard to find a website showing him winning Michigan. On election night CTV wouldn’t even reveal on the late news that Trump had hammered Clinton. They only showed incomplete results. Nobody wants to update their websites.

  47. Neither Democrats nor Republicans can at this point claim who won the popular vote. That’s because final counts won’t be available for several more weeks, when election officials in the various states finish tabulating and certify the results.
    However, no one is questioning that Michigan has gone to Trump though the margin is small. I’m still uncertain about New Hampshire though. There the margin is even smaller. Much smaller. Regardless, the results of the election will NOT be changed. Donald Trump is the President elect.
    In short, I repeat, neither Dems or Repbs can claim the popular vote at this time.
