SNL was bizarre tonight. Highly politicized and not terribly funny. The opening sequence was “Hillary Clinton” (Kate McKinnon) singing Cohen’s Hallelujah. Touching perhaps, but not exactly a knee slapper. And the musical guest “A Tribe Called Quest” only poured gasoline onto the political bonfire.
I’ll gladly sacrifice missing the odd funny snippet to avoid the blatant political leanings of such shows. In the old days, the network would cancel a show when the viewers were getting turned off from politics (Smothers Brothers). Perhaps SNL has enough viewers within the progressive bubble to ensure no such thing happens today.

I heard about it while I was an undergrad in the 1970s and finally got to watch it after I started working after I got my B. Sc. I was left unimpressed and bewildered about its appeal.
I watched it once again over 25 years ago and my opinion of the show hadn’t changed.
On the other hand, I have a hard time keeping a straight face while watching Monty Python.

Yup. I noticed that while I was a grad student. There’s very little originality and imagination, but lots of groupthink. It’s as if everyone’s afraid to comment about the monarch’s new apparel, if you get my meaning.
To get funding, one must know which topics are popular and, then, liberally use (no pun intended) the associated buzzwords and jargon. One’s application is sure to be noticed that way.

While Dave Chappelle can be both insightful and funny, last night’s SNL was just horrible. I note that the network had no problem with Chappelle letting loose with not one but two utterances of the ‘n-word’ – you know, the one I dare not actually say.

There was also a very disgusting ‘skit’ of Chappelle slurping away at the enormous lactating apparatus of the unfunny Leslie Jones, she of the unsuccessful Ghostbusters remake. This was followed by another unfunny skit of Chappelle and McKinnon being two losers in a dive bar at closing time. The wayyyy to long tight camera shots of them slathering tongues together was pointless and gross.
SNL. So Not Laughable.
