  1. Brian Jean: great interview…
Remember Danielle Smith? Lived in High River during the flood. Leader of WRP – Highwood MLA. Held the PC’s to task for awhile.
    That turned out so well.
Talk the talk….can he walk the walk?

  2. stradivarious and jean – you are right of course, except when we measure ice that has calfed … we measure that in football fields.

  3. Just a few points of observation. Brian Jean doesn’t have to be perfect to get my vote he simply has to be better than Notely. That shouldn’t be too hard since a bale of hay is better than Notely.
A friend of mine was the provincial emergency measures coordinator when the Edmonton tornado happened. In private conversation he said the best and most effective emergency aid organization during the tornado recovery was the Mennonite Central Committee. I have supported the MCC ever since’
One final point. it is 1.5 km between the range roads and 3.2 km between the township roads.

  4. Sunday — A fire starts in a remote part of forest southwest of Fort McMurray. Investigators don’t know how it started, but have noted that most spring wildfires are caused by people. A dry, warm spring and trees that are still greening make for lots of fuel. Fire spotted by helicopter fire patrol. Helicopter begins working the fire immediately. First air tanker arrives 45 minutes later, then three others arrived from Lac la Biche, Peace River and Whitecourt. Two tankers stayed the night in Fort McMurray to be ready to go the next morning
A look at how a wildfire consumed large parts of Fort McMurray

Yeah, “intelligent” people have determined the best way to measure miles, is in kms…

  6. They didn’t measure in km when the roads were put into place. It’s 1 mile and 2 miles.

  7. Ural mentioned the experience of POWs in WWII with the Red Cross, which did nothing, and the Salvation Army which helped them.
I found that the veterans from both world wars would support the Sally Ann (as they called the Salvation Army) but not the Red Cross. If they got a doughnut and coffee/tea from the Red Cross truck, they had to pay for it, but the Sally Ann gave freely.
More recently, the Canadian Red Cross history in Haiti would make me greatly suspect what they will actually deliver to the people. Hope someone is going to hold them responsible.

  8. Some would say that the range roads are 320 rods apart immediately north of the correction lines only while the township roads are 640 rods apart regardless of where the measurement is taken.

  9. The response here in the Edmonton area has been great. People are incredibly generous donating to groups of individuals who are not related in anyway to the Red Cross, etc. Proud to say my young daughter and friends (along with numerous other people) parked their horse trailers in parking lots today, got them fully loaded with donations of water, toiletries, baby formula, diapers, etc. and are on their way north to deliver to evacuees.
They are also hoping to bring back horses who have been rescued or for owners who need to move them further away from the fires. I am NOT saying the Red Cross, etc do not have a role to play – just that people looking out for each other do a great job without government “help”. Praying for rain.

  10. Trudeau didn’t need to get in there personally. The army is at his disposal. They can’t shovel their own damn streets in Toronto so the army was sent in. On this? Crickets. Think a few thousand soldiers with shovels and axes and heavy equipment would have made a difference?

  11. I got fed up with the Red Cross with all the pro Syrian refugee radio ads that were pure propaganda. Also wondering did the radio stations play them for free or did donations help pay for the ads.

  12. Brian Jean will be our next premier. The PCP needs to quietly go away, they are the reason we have this lunatic NDP party in power. Notley needs to resign a let some real people manage this situation, a serious crisis needs serious people to deal with it, not a bunch of clowns.
Nutley’s fear mongering comment will haunt her forever, just goes to show how out of touch she really is.
