Yes indeed, Moon is a legend … primarily for breaking all the rules and quite literally marching to a different drummer … or rather his own unique time signature. Not sure if you are aware, but Zak Starkey (yep, Ringo’s boy) has been the Who’s drummer for some years now. Ringo actively discouraged his son from following him into the Rock world, but Zak’s godfather … Keith Moon … bought Zak his very first drum kit at age 8. Suffice to say that Zak does a very presentable imitation of Uncle Keith’s signature ATTACK of the drum kit. Zak was invited to be the permanent drummer for Oasis (I can’t hold that against him), but fortunately has toured with the Who and Daltry instead.
I am glad to hear there are enough (still living) Who fans in central Canada to support two shows. I have a pair of up-close-and-personal tickets to see the Who on May 29, at little (3,000 seat) Caesars Palace in Lost Wages. The show is a make-up for the Who turns 50 Tour cut short by a Roger Daltry illness. I am a massive Pete Townsend fan (except for that little child porn “research” project) … and can’t WAIT to see him up close and personal.
Sadly, the reschedule has ruined my chance to see my favorite Red Hot Chili Peppers at nearby Napa’s Bottle Rock festival (same weekend) … but … John Frusciante won’t be playing … so why bother ?
