  1. Given the nonsensical palaver about the federal government’s “war on science” or “war on scientists”, this story suggests that we need to get serious about this war.

  3. Let’s hope the virus is indemic to the Mammoth species and when released will keep the new cloned mammoth population in trim so they don’t eat all the orange groves in Siberia caused by NYC yuppies driving SUVs.

  6. Doesn’t the virus require activation in a host to determine if its dangerous to a host?
    Given that any host is likely to have no immunity, one can presume it is and shouldn’t be activated.

  9. They JUST HAD TO make a reference to globull warming in that article. They just couldn’t help but speculate that because of globull warming some deadly plague is just bound to be unfrozen and kill us all. EVERYTHING. MUST. BE. TIED. TO. GLOBULL. WARMING. Everything sciency.

  11. I haven’t heard of any progress on that project to re-introduce the mammoth.. How is it going? As a hunter I am somewhat interested, though not entirely decided to be in favour of it.

    It’s been frozen for 30,000 years. I really don’t think the current mild warming (should it continue) will have much chance of thawing them.
