I helped put Laotian children as young as 8 years old into choppers that were being flown/forced into combat against the North Vietnamese.
Many could hardly lift their weapons.
North Vietnamese killed them as they struggled to get their heavy weapons off the tarmac,
the rest were slaughter in rice paddies because it almost covered their shoulders.
Children involved in combat is a liability, and total bullshit.
The use of child soldiers is the historic norm. In fact the concept that we hold today of children as being separate from adults is a relatively new concept which has emerged from our western civilization’s need to educate people longer in order to increase their usefulness in the work force and society in general.

The U.S.(and Israel) captured large stockpiles of various AKs and other Russian/Chinese weapons in their many conflicts against Russian/Chinese client states.
It is well known that the U.S. supplied AKs to both Afghan and Iraq Army forces that they were training to support the new governments that were installed after the invasions.
It is also now known that U.S. Ambassador Stephens was part of a CIA program to supply forces in Syria(forces now known to be part of ISIL) with weapons with which to fight the Assad government.
The reason AKs are supplied to insurgent forces(other than that they were gotten free through capture) is that they are relatively maintenance free, that the fighters are familiar with them,4 and western weapons would have a greater incidence of breakdown/failure due to a lack of diligence on the part of the fighters being supplied.
