Record quantities of cannabis are flooding into the port of Antwerp in Belgium, with customs seizing 32 tons of cannabis in the last year alone – a 500 per cent increase from 2024.
The gangs smuggle the cannabis into Europe’s ports in 6m-long shipping containers sent from the docks of Vancouver, Montreal, Halifax and St John.
The smuggling operation is being driven by Chinese state-linked mafia networks which have proliferated in Canada’s countryside since Mr Trudeau legalised the drug eight years ago.

As has always been the case in the war on drugs, drugs continue to win. Marijuana has been essentially legal in the Netherlands for decades, and is now also legal in Spain and Portugal. For the rest of Europe to continue to prohibit marijuana use is a losing battle. They should just legalize it.

If the cargo is valuable enough the shipping cost is insignificant, especially if they can reduce the risk of being caught because they are shipping it out of a port they control.
It’s Rail. Just like the docks, Canada’s rail “policing” is done by private companies hired by the rail systems. The docks do the same with what turns out to be “private security”. I’m sure they are told to concentrate on theft and time schedules. Contraband is like largely ignored. That’s how they ship vehicles stolen in Western Canada to the east so they can use the Antwerp Nexus.
I still recall that CBC Expose on vehicle theft where the guy put an Apple AirTag in the vehicle he expected to be stolen next (had two stolen previously). He monitored the vehicle while notifying his local police. They sent a team that arrived at the Docks in Toronto at about the same time the vehicle arrived via train. They were able to narrow down the location to 3 or 4 stacked shipping crates…..and the dock “police” told them to go away. The vehicle eventually turned up on a used car lot in Dubai.

“Legally” is a fairly elastic term around weed. When you consider that a 10 acre field can produce enough weed to fill a shipping container, and it doesn’t have to be inspected if it isn’t being sold -in- the province…
…then you’ve got a lot of latitude in what you grow and how you grow it. Latitude that expands to new dimensions on a reserve.
Meaning for shipping out, anything goes. And for local consumption, caveat emptor, baby. Don’t buy your ganja on the reserve, would be my advice.
