Reader Tips

Our last journey overseas in search of tips entertainment was such a big hit that tonight we return, this time to Slovenia, where Jožica Svete sings an al fresco version of an early Neil Diamond song made famous by The Monkees: here’s Lažnivka.

  1. I wonder if Christiana Figueres would accept an invitation to a private screening of Logan’s Run, or would she be more inclined if I afforded her a real life reenactment?
The real irony is that we keep giving the UN money to supposedly “save” lives.

  2. EBO. In that case we start with the eco-freaks start by having all the over populationists like Paul Ehrlich and company report to the nearists Disintigration booth

  3. Gerald Butts, Trudeau’s boss, is a complete idiot. Does he have to deal with winter in Canada, or not ??????????

With the demands the world’s population of close to seven billion people puts on all viable land, is it worth even addressing other issues of sustainability?
We have to be careful here. There is an obvious mathematical relationship between the number of people on the planet and the resources we consume. But it’s not a straight function of population growth; it is a question of sustainability and the efficient use of resources per person. The world can afford a lot more people who live like Africans, what it can’t afford is a lot more people who live like Americans and Canadians.

  4. peterj: Re: Taser
Not a good idea to build your own Taser unless you’re an experienced electrical–electronics tech person.
In the late 60’s, my Bro and I worked in my Dad’s highway filling station. After a series of break ins, we decided to build a Taser type weapon that would fit over the garage windows using a grid type screen, much like chicken wire. For our power source, we used a discarded transformer from an industrial oil furnace designed to burn bunker fuel..
Only moments prior to our hookup, a guy walked in and inspected our invention. He was a technician who repaired radio–TV transmitters all over the prairies. He just about jumped out of his coveralls when he read the specs on the transformer. ”You would kill the intruder instantly!!” he exclaimed.
We also realized that people will sometimes break into a highway station after hours simply to use the phone in an emergency. So we discarded the idea, and the transformer.
Watch this video–this is a small transformer compared to the one we had!! (Same principle.)

On a related note, Claire Martin, CBC’s former meteorologist, and quite possibly the former apple in Mansbridge’s eye, is now running as a candidate for the Green party down on Vancouver Island.
    A billion dollars a year …

  6. I am sure Christiana Figueres could still find a few old SS or NKVD types to give her a primer on how to do this. Pol Pot operatives or some of Mao’s Long March faithful could also help.

  7. NBC has the usual NAB Breakfast with all the Network Affiliates in Las Vegas April 11-17. All the ducks better be in a row. The Network Affiliates (Owners) have lost millions in their local markets and the NY Network Management (Piss-ants) will have to dance to avoid the arrows. If you think Brian has a brain tumor; you will likely also believe in AGW (Lower than 30% world wide)

    Or
    He’s innocent.

  10. The first day of the AB election and the PeeCees stumble out of the gate. The Prentice campaign bus sports the election slogan, Choose Alberta’s Future. Trouble is none of the tall foreheads in the party thought to secure the domain name at .ca or .com.
A quick thinker in the Alberta Party grabbed Choose Alberta’s Future.com and .ca so when you click on you are directed to the Alberta Partys website……… Looks good on the PeeCees who hold themselves out as competent managers.
After 44 years it’s time to change ’em out.
