  6. Worth remembering that a time of trial for us is a disaster for the rest of the Western world. We sat on our hands in the 90’s and 200,000 people died in former Yugoslavia. And 800,000 in Ruanda. If you think I’m wrong go for it.

  7. A lot of Americans are in “Obama denial”. They committed so much of their social identity to a “Hope and Change” fantasy, that they can’t handle it all falling apart. All they can mumble in defense is: “Bush was Worse”.

    At an emergency meeting in Ghana, ministers promised better collaboration to fight what has become the world’s deadliest outbreak to date.
    So far, 759 people have been infected with the virus in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone and 467 of them have died.

    Apparently they were all misunderstood.
    They don’t hate Christians, they just don’t want them anywhere around. Or something like that.
    These men are weasels. They will eat you and your young if you’re not careful.
    The black 21 year-old councillor is not in the piece. That is too bad.
    I was hoping that he could explain his personal experience with bigotry, while he pulls down a salary of close to 6 figures.

  18. I would like to echo EBD and Plainzdrifter in the their well wishes for our American friends. As I watched the video and saw the words going by I thought they now have a president and a warped neo-Marxist party trying their best to destroy what that anthem portrays.
    On a FoxNews Fourth of July special this evening I just about threw up when Allen Colms got emotional about how his family had come from Russia to escape Soviet group think tyranny and the party he now supports wants to take the US to a Soviet style government.

  19. We are fortunate, Kate, to have such an enlightened and good friend as Canada sharing one of the longest international boundaries on the globe. Certainly, your Left wing is as caustic as ours, but when there are times that as Americans we should ask (not that we do much…), “Is this the best way to go about _____?”, we would do well to look at Canada.
    The answer may be not to go your route, but they are few nat’l opinions in the world whose credence I would acknowledge, and Canada is always among them.
    And please, please(!!) build the Canadian side of the XL pipeline. It will get presidential approval on 20 Jan 2017, and we can all be happy. Well, except the Leftists, who are never happy…

    Thank you to Canada for continuing to be the best neighbor any country has ever had. Would that the USA under the current administration had been as good a neighbor to Canada.

    Just an observation on this epidemic ….. the WHO states “up to 90% mortality.” The figures given show a rate of about 61% (467/759 = ~61%). There is a related story “I survived etc” where the guy says that 3 of his family of 9 survived (66% mortality).
    A 61% or 66% mortality is definitely a cause for concern. No need to say UP TO 90% mortality…… i.e., I wonder where that figure came from?

  28. When Ebola first broke out, and was largely unknown, mortality did run as high as 90%. Untreated, that’s probably not far off, certainly in the conditions in Africa where it first appeared. Slowly, with the more experience, we’re learning how to triage and treat it symptomatically, but it remains an extremely deadly and extremely dangerous virus. Buildup of immunity clusters will be slow. Hemorrhagic fevers like Ebola are really, really nasty, not a death to wish on anyone. The bigger worry at the moment, and what the Doctors without Borders spokesperson alluded to in a previous report was the potential for a secondary attenuation to be occurring in humans. This is worrisome because it will allow the virus, still very virulent, to move more freely out of the host environment. This is not one you want to have get loose.
