Putin on the blitz

“Oh yeah? You and what army, President Poofter?”

So let me get this straight. The “penalty” for Russia if it keeps its hold on the Ukraine is that it doesn’t get to waste precious summer days in June in the presence of this cowardly little narcissist and his entourage of fluffers and fellators? Well, yes, that would certainly make any leader of Russia give up the security of his fleet’s access to the Crimea, the Black Sea, and from there into the Mediterranean..

  1. I chose California in my analogy because it is/was America’s most populous state, just as Russia was the USSR’s most populous Republic.
At least you understood that as a Soviet Republic the Ukraine was a part of the nation called USSR, so you used other American states, as opposed to doowleb’s analogy which used foreign nations that don’t even share contiguous borders with the U.S..

  2. Exactly, and furthermore, eastern Ukraine has been part of the Russian Imperial/Soviet empire longer than western Ukraine, parts of which were under first the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth or part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. All of Ukraine, both east and west, has been under some empire’s heel since the time of the Golden Horde.
Other than a short period in and around 1918 Ukraine has not been independent until the early 1990s.
Who knows where this current crisis will end, but it appears that some of present Ukraine will end up back in Russia.

  3. Btw, the caption for this thread, “Putin on the blitz,”Oh yeah? You and what army, President Poofter?”, is priceless.

  4. “it appears that some of present Ukraine will end up back in Russia”
My bet is that all of Ukraine will be annexed.
Putin is now reconstituting the Russian Empire he was born in.
This will not end with just the Ukraine.
The Cold War never ended, the U.S. declared victory and stopped fighting their side of the Cold War.
Russia just downsized, like many international corporations did in the early ’90s by cutting loose their economically non-viable subsidiaries, and now Russia’s ready to take it all back and more.
You know, Russia settled significant Russian populations in all of the other 12 former Soviet Republics too.
No, no, let’s just wait until Russia’s an even bigger threat before we have to do something.
Let’em swallow up a few peripheral nations like Georgia and Ukraine, and consolidate them first./

Is it just me or does this all echo like the 1930s to more of you history buffs?

  5. the bomarcs were a very effective anti-bomber missle. blow up a nuke near the bomber and it dies. better to do it in northern Canada than over Toronto (well maybe?) or buffalo.

  6. Better to do it over NYC or Washington D.C.
Tell me, have you ever heard of the term ‘fallout’?
The Bears carrying the nukes weren’t going to drop them on Canada, so why detonate nukes over Canada to protect the U.S.?!
You know, the Ukraine is having this trouble now and we spent untold $Billions on the Cold War because the Americans, at the head of clearly superior Allied forces, decided to throw in the towel and leave the job unfinished during WWII.
George S. Patton jr. wanted to roll all the way to Moscow before the Ruskies got nuclear bombs but Truman wouldn’t let him.

  7. I am certainly no expert on Slavic history, but it is evident upon a cursory reading that a lot of early Russian
history took place in what is now the Ukraine.
There seems to be ongoing disagreement as to when the Ukrainian and the Russian languages became
sufficiently different to be registered as different languages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukrainian_language

  8. Oz, there is essentially no fallout from an air blast. Fallout being the return to earth of the dust, water and other stuff that is kicked up by the explosion. In the north, it may radiate snow that falls, or rain.
Air blasts are for heat and explosion damage, not radioactivity.

  9. Yeah wrong term on my part, how about rainout/snowout.
I do know rainout is the term for irradiated rain.
