There are a lot of jealous-lover murder ballads in old-style country music, but you rarely hear a song that fleshes out both the grotty details of the unendurable circumstance and the narrator’s absurdly pitiable and unsound thought processes in the moments before the precipitous action — let alone one that details these for (black) humorous effect: Here’s the sublimely funny Robbie Fulks performing I Just Want To Meet The Man in front of a mostly credulous, and therefore perhaps slightly confused, audience.

  9. And so now the RCMP, having rendered Swiss Arms rifles prohibited, have done the same with the CZ858 rifles. An estimated 8-10,000 of those are now prohibs, over and above the 1-2000 Swiss Arms carbines.

    Remember, all these rifles were previously approved by the RCMP lab, and so far there is no word of compensation.
    Will they come for your semi-auto hunting rifle or shot-gun next? And if they don’t do so under the CPC, will they they do it when the Liberals take power?

  10. I may be wrong (my eyes are gettin’ old) but the first 2 choppers @4sec appear to be troop transports, they have higher tails than the Hinds, choppers 3 &4. Silhouette of center chopper in the distance @16-17 sec looks the same as the first 2.
    Then again, most of the 80’s are a bit blurry too. 😉

  16. Mansbridge is correct. It is the wingy leftists who have decided that the oil industry is the enemy. They are just an industry employing a lot of Canadians and their association is similar to any other association (Professional engineers, for example). To spin this into some kind of “conflict of interest” — as though getting a speaking contract and getting paid for it is suddenly going to result in positive news coverage for the oil industry is really a stretch. As is indicated, Mansbridge gives many speeches each year. It was also foolish of the left to take issue with Murphy giving a speech. If there is any conflict of interest on the part of the CBC, it is in their support for Suzuki who has turned himself into a spokesperson for one side of a very divisive issue.

    This is a troubling article. The writer went to a criminologist at the UofOttawa to get an opinion that he then used to smear the Conservatives.
    The writer is suggesting that the RCMP should be able to do what they want without political interference. That sounds an awful lot like a ‘police state’.

    If I keep bourque.org open in a background tab, it reloads itself automatically quite frequently. Possibly giving advertisers the false impression that the site is getting more eyeballs/time than it really is.

  21. Smart advertisers look at ‘visit’ stats, not ‘hit’ stats. Visits are by distinct IP over time, hits are each element of the page each time.
    So while you clicking on Bourque and seeing the page (including reloads) would constitute one visit, it might be hundreds of hits. One for each image, scripts and the html for each reload.
    Smart advertisers also embed something in the page so that they can use their own stats, rather than rely on what Pierre tells them.
    Smarter advertisers embed something on the page so that they can use the traffic to up their search engine ranking. EG: the 35M visitors to SDA is no small number, lots of advertisers want to associate their business, product, whatever to that.

    Lets all pretend that it has nothing to do with islam.
    I can’t imagine the horror of being basically trapped and unarmed in a train station while a gang of men stabbed and slashed their way through the crowd. Details are sketchy, but I think that they would have come in through all the exits simultaneously.
    That is the ‘religion of peace’.
    When will we wake up? This won’t do it.
    The slaughter of students in Nigeria two days ago won’t do it. The thousands of similar incidents haven’t done it.
    A Canadian passenger train plunging into a river might do it, but I’m doubtful about that. It is so much easier to believe that it is only a small percentage of radicals than to think that the religion is based on the writings of a psychotic pedophile.
    The women of islam may be our only hope, because we sure don’t have the parts to stand up and be counted.
