Uh oh, Ontariowe…
In a letter sent from the MPP to Premier Kathleen Wynne, McNaughton says he received word this morning that 60-100 manufacturing jobs will be lost with the closure of the plant. The Wescast plants make iron and steel cast parts for the automotive industry.
On January 7, McNaughton received a letter from Wescast CEO Ed Frackowiak, which says the company is “deeply worried” about the future price of electricity in Ontario. “If electricity rates do not become more affordable, Ontario risks losing important investments from companies like Wescast,” says Frackowiak in the letter.
Related – “WHEREAS the province’s recently released Long Term Energy Plan anticipates that consumers will face hydro rates that will rise by 42% over the next five (5) years…”

Fear not, Ontariowe will soon be turned around, Wynnemill has tapped now private citizen and Quebec resident Paul Martin.
PS, he’s working for free, which is all they can afford and all he’ll be worth given the economic quagmire the McWynnty Liberals continue to add to. Wynnemill has called a couple of by-elections which she’s busy turning into buy-elections.
May as well sign off Hopeless in Ontario as stupid people continue to vote Liberal.
My bumper sticker:
When you’re cold, broke, hungry, and jobless…
Will you still vote Liberal?
This is very good. The more disasters the environmental lunatics create the better for the rest of us. People just have to have their noses rubbed in this nonsense. They have to freeze and starve in the dark before they’ll throw the crazies out.
This government’s total lack of empathy with industrial workers is bad enough but the morbid intellectual bankruptcy in dealing with manufacturing base loss in the province is truly dumfounding. This government and premier are not only empty suits but a vacuum chamber when it comes to direction and policy.
When the liberals took the helm some years ago it was obvious they had neither the talent or intellectual reserves to run Canada’s largest province. They had 3 terms to change that and attract talented administrators but they Put priorities in using reserve funds and revenue in superficial social experiments like green policy and gender politics – the multitudes of Liberal scandals are all largely the result of dithering ineptitude in setting effective administrative policy – a total loss as a governing entity, the Liberal political network of Ontario should be outlawed as a public menace
aint no silver bullet answer
PC, NDP, Libs have kicked the can
Hey wow look over there Mayor Ford is drunk again.
Nonononooooooooooooo, write letters to Harpo about the 100 watt lite bulb ban
deerboy, they don’t need Drunk Ford as a distraction, they are LIV, LIV’s on both sides of the political divide, these clowns in here worry about “choice” when there are far greater issues that need taken care of!!
and as a furtherance they are always wanking about the lefties wanting choice on issues that run against their own “beliefs”
“WHEREAS the province’s recently released Long Term Energy Plan anticipates that consumers will face hydro rates that will rise by 42% over the next five (5) years…”
Hey, senior citizens of Ontario! Hooray! Looks like the province is introducing a graduated assisted suicide programme: exorbitant hydro rates versus your fixed incomes.
You’ll get to do what thousands of your British counterparts get to do every year when there’s a cold snap in the UK: freeze to death!
Seriously though, if this sort of thing doesn’t arouse even a smidgen of public ire in Ontario, then we deserve everything we get from the Liberals and their ridiculous jogging premier.
I work for a Canadian company that purchases castings and finished products made in Ontario. We are working diligently to eliminate our supply line out of Ontario and into the USA and Mexico. Why?? Because absolutely everything in Ontario, and Canada costs too damn much, and Canada Customs are incompetent and slow union slugs.
Fact is Canadians are socialists and have been generationally destroyed by socialism. Ontario in particular is infested with trade unions, regulations, unaccountable government, lazy workers and far too many statutory holidays. Fact is Canadians don’t work very hard and it shows.
When dealing with our Mexican vendors it is like breathing a breath of fresh air. Companies and workers will do whatever it takes to get the product out the door. Prices and quality is top notch. Very little regulation, costs are low, and supply chains are streamlined and expedited and are not bolloxed up with dooshy trade union laws like only Teamsters can deliver this, or only IBEW electricians can wire that.
I love Canadians and love Canada but would never in my life hire one. Any Canadians at that castings plant who want their job back can go down to Monterrey, Mexico and get it back, just leave your irrational demands and crappy work ethic back home.
I don’t understand why Canadian politicians hate ordinary Canadians so much. All that working class people
do is – work. Often fairly hard. And nearly always in jobs that are no fun at all.
We are looking at unrestricted class warfare. And I don’t know why.
At least in the bad old days the CCF/NDP seemed actually to care for their constituents. And socialists even
tried occasionally to be pro-working class.
Ahh yes…more jobs and businesses disappearing. Once you jump into a flushing toilet bowl there is only one direction to go.
Your right, there are three new wind projects underway not far from Strathroy. I hate to say it but the problem in the first place was the farmers that signed the leases years ago.
You can’t really blame them, after all global warming was going strong and the only place you’d find any news on wind farms was the internet, and really that hasn’t changed much. Although I’m sure many regret it they screwed themselves, and their neighbors.
Anyways whats it matter I’ve heard “everyone does it” when it comes to principles and the government trough and lately seen it put into practice on a grand scale locally, especially now that the projects have started.
It’s not going to end well, people don’t really care if wind is viable or not, they complain but can’t seem to correlate consequence when using your neighbors money for junk, being managed by those that see people as “stupid” and in need of the right direction – dictated to them.
This “clown” wrote his email to the Liberal MP representing Strathroy years ago, that called them out on the scam they manufactured.
Now I’m sitting back watching the dirty side of socialism work it’s “magic”.
After all I don’t see any leaders coming up in Ontario with enough courage to wake people up.
They won’t sweat the “small” stuff – until the money runs out.
Ontario is the canary in the gold mine.
I’m waiting for the NG powered fuel cells for homes the size of dishwashers.
If they can get that together sooner rather than later I’ll seriously consider switching over of the price is right.
Goodbye Hydro!

John Lewis said: “We are looking at unrestricted class warfare. And I don’t know why.”
War’s over John. We lost. Now they’re just flat out stealing everything. To the victor go the spoils.
Up to us how long we want to let them do it, I guess.
Incidentally, there’s a -gale- blowing outside my door here in Cayuga. Its instructive to note the amount of electricity being generated by our local giant fans.
http://www.ieso.ca/map/index.html
Port Burwell is the nearest bunch of giant fans that are doing anything, they’re putting out 98 megawatts right now. All the windmills in Ontario are contributing almost 1,800 megawatts today. Which sounds like a lot, until you compare it to Pickering nuclear station.
Also consider that yesterday it was pretty much dead still and hovering around 0F, not much juice coming out of a becalmed windmill farm.
That’s a great idea really. But I can’t see the powers that be thinking they can afford to let you go so to speak.
Independence from the shell game these days, sort of takes away the ingredient that keeps the mess afloat- your hard earned money. They’d probably get you one way or the other, not that I think it’s right or reasonable, it just seems that the way they choose to operate.
I’m talking about Ontario, maybe it’s different in other provinces?
You’re absolutely right about the provincial government being empty suits, the Premier in particular. She’s never had an economic portfolio in particular, running Education, Aboriginal Affairs, Municipal Affairs and Transport for McGuinty.
So she’s never had anything to do with direction of the economy or provincial economic and industrial development. Her background is out of boards of education. She doesn’t get it, doesn’t understand it, and that’s why the province is rudderless right now, particularly with a Minister of Finance as flaccid as Charles Souza.
The market always always ALWAYS wins
Too wordy. People can’t read that long these days. How bout:
Cold? Broke?
Thank a Liberal.
For the ruling class in modern Western democracies, the state is the provider of money for them and their own. Any incidental activity forced upon them by the populace is an irritation and fobbed off onto the state bureaucracy, whose purpose is to shield the rulers from the populace.
Instead of “Let them eat cake” we have “Let them have another program”.
We don’t need no subsidation
We don’t need those plants to go
No blackout in the classrooms
etc
NG fuel cells…. you’ll have a long wait before they’re anything close to economical.
For a whole lot less money you can convert a small car engine to run on NG to power a generator and use the waste heat for the house.
Natural gas seems by far the better choice over electrics. Any city dealing with bad air should be seeing where they could go with that. I worked for a company with a pickup we called Gassy, it was old, the range was 200 kms I think and filled up in a few minutes. It was better in 1980 than electrics are now. Even on a smog comparison alone it should be better depending on the power plant recharging the electric.
