Via Pam Geller: Obama creates a terrorist haven in Mali
This catastrophe did not “just happen.” It is the direct result of an episode that may at first seem unrelated: the US-led intervention in Libya last year. Rarely in recent times has there been a more vivid example of how such interventions can produce devastating unexpected results.
Under the regime of MoammarKhadafy, who was killed during the Libyan war, a portion of the army was made up of Tuaregs. They are a nomadic people whose traditional homeland is centered in northern Mali. After Khadafy was deposed, they went home — armed with potent weaponry they brought from Libya. Seeking to press their case for a homeland in Mali, they quickly overran the lightly armed Malian army.
Into this upheaval stepped another group, shaped not by ethnicity but by devotion to an extreme form of Islam. It has attracted Al Qaeda militants from many countries, including Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, and Algeria. They seek to create a pure Muslim state — and are destroying mosques and Islamic monuments that they believe represent the wrong kind of Islam.
This is an emerging crisis that could engage the world for years. A vast region has fallen out of the control of central government and into the hands of violent radicals. They may cause far more death and suffering than Khadafy ever did.

“Obama doesn’t want to enter into any war against Islamist terrorists”
Of course not, the US created them and Obamba needs them.
That is precisely why he’s helped arm them from the inception of the Arab Spring.
Otherwise you are suggesting that the world’s richest county, with the largest military, with the biggest and most financed intelligence agencies ever devised, COULD NOT CONCIEVE that overthrowing Gaddafi and leaving his armories defenceless that they would fall into the hands of Al Qaeda. That’s truly funny because all sorts of Conservative voices shouted that very scenario out before it came to be.
That I’m afraid seems somewhat improbable.
Let’s also not forget throwing open Gaddafi’s jails stuffed with hundreds of imprisoned Al Qaeda members to actually use some of those free Obamba weapons.
Knight99, I agree with your outline of the results of Libya, which I suggest could have been prevented, but I don’t agree with your view that the US ‘created Islamist terrorists’.
I consider that Larry Wright’s historical outline of the development of Al Qaeda (a part of Islamic fascism) shows their development as a reaction to the outmoded economic and political infrastructure of the MENA states.
Politically tribal with only two classes and no middle class. Economically statist with no middle class private economy. And faced with an exponential increase in population over the past decades. That’s a recipe for disaster.
Attempting to repress unrest by military dictatorships and theocratic fundamentalism.
All of that led to the utopian fascism of the Al Qaeda original ideology (let’s go back to the 7th century)..and has now moved on to the current Al Qaeda as a bunch of criminal opportunistic economic and social thugs vying for power as the old tribal system implodes in the MENA.
And don’t forget Iran, which has imperialistic ambitions in the area, and funds and arms these various terrorist groups – against not only the West, but against the Islamic people and governments.

“I don’t agree with your view that the US ‘created Islamist terrorists’”
I’m referring to Al Qaeda to be specific as a direct US invention. On the other hand “Islamic terrorism” as a whole is a by-product of US/ UK and UN foreign policies in the MENA.

This funding of Moslem extremists started long before Libya. What happened to Serbia was a direct result of NATO helping Moslem rebels.
